Do any of you use ice in your smoothies? I can't get the blender I bought to blend the ice and I really wanted ice in my smoothie! Anyone have a recipe tha does use ice in it? I may have to go get a blender that does blend ice!

Teri

Terri,

I never use ice in any of my smoothies. I freeze the fruit.

One I made this week was...

1 cup skim milk
1 TB natural PB
1 scoop of chocolate protein powder
1 frozen banana.

Here's another one...

I cup skim milk
1 cup vanilla protein powder
1 cup of frozen raspberries or just about any fruit you can think of. I've used frozen peaches. I just cut up the peach in wedges, lay them out in a cake pan, small baking sheet and flash freeze them. I do it in the morning and it is ready for my morning snack.

I've used blackberries, blueberries, strawberries.

I think using ice dilutes the flavor of the smoothie IMO so I never use it.

I use ice in my smoothies, but I do have it come out of the dispensor crushed but my blender will crush it also for me. It really makes my smoothie colder and I like a cold smoothie.:)

Yeah Terri, try the recipe that Jane had with the frozen banana. I have made this 2 nights in a row. It is alot better with the banana frozen than ice. It is delicious!

Ladies thank you for the recipes. Denise that is the blender I bough on saturday. It doesnt seem to do well with my cubed ice. What size ice do you put in it? I bought this one as you had on another thread talked about it. I love it but the ice crushing it doesn't seem to be doing well on. TIA

Terri

I too never use ice but frozen fruit instead. My absolute favourite smoothie is frozen mangoe with orange juice and some flax oil, sometimes I put in some yogurt. Yum, this is my nightly treat.

Sherry, this sound great. I'll add it to my smoothie recipes.

You gave me an idea. Wouldn't this be good.

1 cup skim milk
1 orange
1 scoopy vanilla protein powder.

Of course I would freeze the orange sections first. I'll have to see how this works.

It sounds like it would taste like a Dreamsicle.

Anybody else have their creative juices flowing... what can you come up with?

Terri,

I never use my blender to crush ice with..my husband uses it to crush "crushed ice" from our fridge..I only put in crushed ice in my blender after I have added some liquid to it first..try adding a small amount of water and see if that does not help with the crushing..

:)

This is the recipe I use on the weekends when the girls come over to relax.

6 ice cubes
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 cup vodka
1 banana
1 kiwi fruit
4 frozen strawbeeries
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons splenda (or add what is needed)

I made one this morning with vanilla protein powder, 1% milk, ice, and some DaVinchi (sp?) SF syrup and it was GREAT!! My percentages on fitday.com look like they'll be much better today also because of leaving the fruit out of my smoothie. I eat fruit other times during the day so it's not really necessary for me to have it in my smoothies. So glad I tried this out after reading a previous post (not sure if it was this particular thread or not though!). :7

I never use ice in any of my smoothies. I have sensitive teeth (and many crowns), and ice makes them too cold. I do use frozen fruit in my smoothies, and that makes them cool enough without being too cold.

I had an idea yesterday for a smoothie and I tried it this morning.

I have an abdunance of cantaloupe which I love!! I forgot to freeze my cantaloupe last night and I wanted this with breakfast, so I did use ice to make it cold and it was good.

1 cup cantaloupe (frozen) or use ice if not frozen
1 cup skim milk
1 cup vanilla protein powder

This is very good.

I guess my brain wasn't functioning properly on the above post... I seem to have that problem a lot here lately. Make that 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder... :p

Oh... I know how to spell abundance also....:p

Hey Jane,

Your smoothie recipes are delicious. I have made the one with the frozen banana everynight. I like it so much better than adding ice. I will have to buy vanilla for some of these other ones. Also when you put in the frozen orange, does it have strings in the mix? Just curious.

kim

Yes, I was very "pulpy" because of the membranes in the orange but I love pulp in my OJ. The more pulp the better so that doesn't bother me.
