Hi all, just got a new blender, and was hoping to get some great recipes for smoothies... all kinds, even sweet! Thanks!

I never use recipes, but I'll give it a shot!

I put some non-dairy milk (usually rice milk recently) in my Magic Bullet about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way up, put in a handful of frozen berries (blueberries and/or strawberries and/or raspberries) or frozen cherries(I never put ice in my smoothies, as I just feel that dilutes the 'good stuff,' and I have a lot of dental crowns, so 'ice cold' drinks aren't appealing to me), a scoop or two of a protein powder (either hemp or pea/rice based, sometimes Nutiva hemp smoothie mix, Vega, or some other flavored or unflavored) and blend.

Another good combo is a light milk (like rice milk, nice because it's not too thick),frozen banana (adds cold and sweetness) and a chocolate protein powder (I like Nutiva, which has kind of a mocha flavor). I've also thrown in some blueberries (with or without the banana) on a whim, and I really like the chocolate/blueberry flavor combo.

Just wondering, what other kinds of smoothies are there, besides sweet?

I don't use recipes but just expieriment

I have an old blender that works just as good as day one too

Here's what I had today for lunch - it was very filling :
* 1 ripe banana
* 1 c. frozen unswetened strawberries
* 1 scoop whey protein powder
* 1/2 c. lite soy milk
* 1c. water
* splenda for taste

another one I make this also is very filling I usually have PWO usually after strength training:

* handful of crushed ice
* 1c. lite plain soy milk or water
* 1/2 c. dry old fashioned oatmeal
* 1 scoop protein powder or entire 8oz of silken tofu (whatever's one hand)
* sprinkle of Molly McButter
* a bit of vanilla and cinnamon w/ splenda

sometimes I add plain fat free sugar free yogurt, FF graham cracker, other berries etc.

just play around with what you have or think will taste good for you

Have fun ! :D

ETA: sometimes in my smoothies I also add a little of flaxseed oil or another type of good for your heart oil such as olive oil but if you use olive oil get the one that's lite on flavor ;) olive oil tends to overpower the sweet taste sometimes :D

The book Abs Diet has several smoothie recipes is it. My husband and I have tried 3 of them and they are good! I'm not going to post the recipes here because I don't know if that is legal or not, but I highly recommend borrowing the book from the library. The recipes we have tried have whey powder, yogurt, instant oatmeal, and natural peanut butter as some of the basic ingredients.

This is the smoothie I have every morning, the only difference is vanilla or chocolate protein powder depending on how I'm feeling that day :)

1 c. lowfat, unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 dash vanilla extract
Enough Stevia to sweeten (I use the liquid form "Stevita")
3 ice cubes
1 scoop rice protein powder, unsweetened vanilla or chocolate
and as much baby spinach as I can cram in there (probably about 2 cups)

I know the spinach sounds weird, but I'm telling you, you cannot taste it at all. And it's the prettiest green colored shake! Every day is like St. Patrick's Day, lol.

I can't recommend enough the Blend and Go cup put out by Oster, all the convenience and power of a "Magic Bullet" type machine for about $10.

Happy Smoothie-ing!

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I've never tried protein powder before... this is a new culinary adventure for me!

I know that this isn't the healthiest, but it's yummy!!! I got the recipe from Jamba juice and the measurements aren't exact so basically go by taste. You can add more or less carrot juice if you want-
1 cup fresh carrot juice and 3-4 big scoops of frozen vanilla yogurt. No ice! It is so good. This will make enough for two people (depending on how big of glasses!). Enjoy.

I just made a great tasting smoothie!

I got the recipe from Tosca Reno's book.

It was: 8oz. of cold water
a scoop of protein powder(I use soy chocolate flavored)
the flesh of one mango
1/2 cup of strawberries
I froze my strawberries for about 1hr before I used them.

The smoothie was very thick and Yummy!

My post weight workout shake:

1/2 cup ice
6oz. water ( give or take depending on your blender)
2 scoops ( designer Whey) chocolate protein powder
1 container Dannon Lite N Fit yogurt ( any flavor is YUMMY!)

Blend until smooth.

I promise this thing tastes like a milkshake!
