smells in house

OK any suggestions for smells like I came home last night apparently they baked french fries the house smelled like fried baked grease Now what i'm wondering is how come this last forever and hangs in the air and no air freshener seems to work that well I would open the windows but in minnesota that is not always an option today however I opened them as it is almost 30 already only 9am
any ideas would be appreciated

I've noticed this before in my house, especailly after cooking foods that are a little heavy on the oil. What worked for me was tearing my stove apart and cleaning it well. I found that that is where the odor came from. I also cleaned the hood--the vent screens on mine can go in the dishwasher so I removed them and cleaned under them really well. I also wiped down the wall behind the stove. I know it seems like a chore and a half, but that grease can cling to everything and it does create odors. I used a good all purpose simple green cleaner.

I have an Odor Eater candle from a local candlemaker than seems to work wonders with cooking smells. Wish it worked as well for cat pee. Check out www.colonialcandlecrafters.com.

They also say that citrus based candles will absorb odors.

I read somewhere that if you put a couple tablespoons of vinegar in with about 1 or 2 cups of water and boil it with a fan on that should get rid of the smell. Oviously I have yet to try it.

What works for me when we have a fishfry is......... Boil some water mixed with 2-3 tablespoons of vanilla extract. Let it simmer for a few hours. Check on the water because it does evaporate. Works like a charm

thanks for all the great suggestions My mom said cooking dry coffee grounds like in afry pan works too Iiwll be trying all of them we did just clean well well sorta well thanks again

I love these suggestions, I don't know which to try first, coffee or vanilla, such wonderful aromas to fill the house with hhhmmmmm....
