Slow & Heavy

Hi All,

I pulled out S&H this week thinking that not having done it for about 2-3 years it would be a welcomed change. I just finished week 1 and now I remember why I haven't done it...the slow pace bores me to death. I just can't concentrate. I think the tape is fantastic in concept and Cathe is awesome as always, but I just can't get into this workout. That being said, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get over this or is there another workout tape that I should move on to that would give me equally good results?

Thanks in advance,

Annetoin

Try playing with the count: instead of the 6-up/2-down count, try 5-up/3-down, or 4-up/4-down (this works well for shoulders, IMO), or change the count during the set.

As much as slow and heavy isn't the most entertaining workout, it is extremely effective. I don't think it's easy to make this workout exciting...I do like the idea of changing the counts, as Kathryn suggested. If you are pretty familiar with the workout, maybe you could put your own motivating music on and keep the television muted. Just a suggestion to liven it up a bit.

Can anyone describe the difference between GS and S&H? I've seen Pyramid on fittv and thought I'd be bored doing it. Not that it wouldn't be a challenge, but I guess I like faster paced stuff. wanted to look at the clips and for some reason I can't get them to play today??.

I think you are missing the point--you need to concentrate. This a very effective workout but you have to pay attention to form and timing. I like that for once Cathe isn't rushing me through a workout! LOL! That being said, I recommend breaking up the routine with other vids, such as Gym style for a bit of variety.

I got the best results using S&H, although it felt like an easier routine because of the slower pace. I did Gym Styles for 6 weeks then did a three week rotation with S&H and the results were great - lots of muscle and definition. edie

I agree with Beavs...this can be a very tough workout if you do it right. Concentrate and use as heavy weights as possible without injuring yourself. I see so many results from a SH rotation...it is actually amazing. I know that if you are used to the faster Cathe pace, it seem really slow. But I promise if you concentrate and go HEAVY you will feel it...and you will need those minute breaks in between sets.

All of that being said...I recently got the Amy Bento Slo Mo dvd and I have enjoyed it as a change from Cathe's SH...There are a lot of different exercises in Amy's dvd and it certainly moves faster. Beware, though, Amy does not give nearly enough form pointers and some of the moves can be tricky.

Good luck and have fun lifting heavy!
