SLOW & HEAVY TAPES

Hi everyone,
I just recently done the Slow & Heavy tapes. I know I'm probably a little behind everyone else because I'm sure most of you have already done these workouts.
Anyway, this might sound odd, but I really didn't get a lot of benefit out of the leg workout and most of the arms too. I didn't get that burn like I would going at a faster speed. I know this must sound strange. During the workout I thought I'd try to do it on a 2 count and I got a much better burn that way.
Has anyone else felt this way about going really slow? Don't get me wrong, I love the tapes and I enjoy the set up of them. I actually also enjoyed doing all the muscle groups on the 2 counts. I think it ended up being 16 reps opposed to their 8 reps.
Any comments on this? I just wondered if anyone felt the same as I did.

Sorry this isnt really a response to your post, but I was wondering why "&amp" appears in so many subject lines. Is there something wrong with MY computer that I need to fix or does it appear this way for others??

Thanks,

Stacy

Hi Michelle,

I think if you weren't getting the burn doing S&H you weren't lifting heavy enough. I have used these tapes quite often when I'm looking for increases in my strength & I feel the burn after the 2nd rep in the first set. Cathe designed this series for that reason (& others, too I'm sure)--to increase strength. It was designed on a slow burn theory. There are exercise theorists that say that if you lift slow, you should lift HEAVY--as heavy as you can stand.

Give the series another shot, try increasing your poundage, & maintain the speed set by Cathe. I think you will find that the burn is more intense.

Stacey,

SNM had posted WAAAAAYYYY back when the forum first changed to this format that the "&amp" in Michelle's subject line is a glitch in the forum software. It happens occassionally when someone uses the "&" in their subject line.

Hope that helps both of you.

Just wanted to say that I totally agree with Deborah's post. I'm currently doing the S&H series and have had incredible strength gains but I really have been trying to use the heaviest weights that I can for at least the first set and then sometimes will go down from there.

Give it another try. So far, this is my favorite Cathe series yet!

Also, we have taken polls here so I can say most people agree you experience more "pain" doing a fast, light, endurance workout like Leaner Legs or PowerHour. A slower speed with heavier weights should still cause muscle failure, but not the sheer agony of endurance work.

And many of us have had to jerry-rig all sorts of methods to get enough weight for the leg portion of Slow and Heavy. Weight vests, squat racks, ankle weights around the waist, etc. Like Deborah and others have said, you've really got to go heavy to get results with this series.

Hi Michelle,

I did my first rotation of slow and heavy last summer and I was disappointed too. Then I tried it again last fall and I went very heavy - heavier than I thought I could and I had my BEST results of any rotation so far. It is amazing how much heavier you can lift when you go that slow. I used a weighted vest recommended by others on this forum and it worked really well for the leg work.

Try it again!
Good Luck!

Fitgrl!

I was having the same problem I wasn't feeling the burn until later on in the first set, sometimes not until the second set.For me the problem was the count. I just could NOT do the 2-6 count. For some reason it would make my joints ache. So i switched the count and it fell and worked so much better for me. I know do a 4-4 count or 3, hold 1 and 4. I figure I need to work up to the 6 count release.

Try it again the way Cathe demonstrates in the workout with a heavier weight and if it's still a problem, try changing the count.

Let us know how it turns out!
Angie

Its not your computer. The topic has and "&amp" on my screen. I've seen that alot too and always wondered why (I'm still wondering) -joy
