Slow & Heavy Legs

Yesterday I did S&H Legs with the same weight Cathe uses. My glutes are sore today...:)...also my forearms...I guess from holding the 40lb Dumbell during the plie squats. Any one else have this happen? I really like this workout and all the Slow & Heavy...Carole

I put linked ankle weights around my waist for this workout, and PS Legs also, and I wear a fishing vest with weights in the pockets so I don't have to hoist such a heavy barbell over my head. I just did this workout today, in fact. This idea may help you too.

Also, since I work out on thick carpet, I put the top of my step on the floor and stand on it to do the calf work.

Hi Carole, I don't have a 40-lb. DB so I use two 20-lb. DB's on my shoulders on a nicely rolled thick towel around my neck. So I don't get sore forearms. However, S&H does leave you pleasantly sore all over.:) It's great for breaking plateaus.

Like Pinky, I often use dumbbells this way, BUT, I find that I just can't put them on my shoulders (even with a towel) because it hurts, so I just hold them in front of my shoulders. I bring the weights up into a hammer curl, then extend the curl so that my hands are in front of my shoulders, brace my arms against my body, and squat away!

Kathryn, I do that too. I was heaving a heavy barbell over my head and felt too much pressure on the inside fleshy part of my thumbs (where they connect to my palms). I pictured myself tearing ligaments there and thought "how about dumbbells instead, huh?":)

Thanks for all your replies! The first time I did S&H I used 2 15lb DB, I just wanted to increase and try the 1 DB method. My forearms could probably use the work. Yes Pinky..plesantly sore especially my glutes.:). Nice to know there are other options to do this. I'll for sure try some...Carole

A leather tool belt, worn backwards and filled with weight plates, is also great for helping to avoid lifting so much weight over your head, while still giving you more weight to challenge your legs.
