Slow and Heavy-one body part at a time?

Hi Cathe,

I just started a Slow and Heavy rotation this week. My first time doing this workout. My question to you, is it okay if I do one body part a day? To tell you the truth it is hard for me to concentrate that long while lifting heavy. Actually, on Monday I did Legs and Shoulders together. That was okay. But today when I did Chest and Back, there was no way I could do back. My mind was saying "no way" to back. Chest was HARD for me. I was tired.

Thanks,

Lollie

Thank you Sunnyside. I was going to follow the format of the workout. Tomorrow I will do back. I hope that is okay. Thanks again.

Lollie, do you have the workouts on DVD? You might want to try combining the body parts so that you work a larger body part with a smaller body part. Chest/back can be tough to work together, since they are the two largest muscle groups in the upper body, especially if you're just getting into the slow and heavy method. You might try, instead, a combo of chest and triceps then back and biceps. Shoulders could be worked alone or with abs/core.

Hi Kathryn,

Yes I do have S&H dvd. On the dvd you are working chest and back in the same workout. I just decided to do chest one day and back the next. But what you have suggested sounds good also.

Thanks,

Lollie

Another option that some bodybuilders do is to combine chest/biceps and back/triceps. This is because triceps may be tired after working chest, and biceps may be tired after working back. It's just another option to try.

Definitely do one body part per day, at least on days when you are busy or tired. Each body part requires so much concentration, it is hard to sustain it for two body parts. I do one body part per day on weekdays with S&H, but do 2 body parts per day on weekends, when I have more energy. That way you can throw your whole heart and soul into it! S&H is by far my favorite Cathe workout series.

If you do it this way you'll need to space out the days because you risk overtraining tris and bis. You really should have chest/tris and back/bis together to avoid working bis and tris on too many days.

Hi, Lollie! One body part per day is my favorite way to do Slow & Heavy. It's just so intense!

Hi Lollie--

I am a huge fan of doing this.. Just be sure to space out your workout so that chest and shoulders have at least one rest day in between as well.

I always am pleased with the gains that I get when doing a rotation this way.. S and H being my absolute fave as well!!
