sleeping problems update

Hello everyone,
I thought I'd start a new post since the other one was turning into a book. AGain, thank you all for you suggestions and support. They were all very helpful and comforting.

Well, I hope I don't jinx anything, but my dear little Colin has slept THROUGH the night the past two nights. I have still been waking up every 1.5-2 hours to check on him but he has not been waking me! I don't want to assume I am out of the woods yet but at least some more progress has been made. He is succesfully taking at least one nap per day in his crib (morning). Taking an afternoon nap does not always fly but he just might not need it. I have been getting him to bed between 8:30 and 9:30pm and he has been sleeping until around 6-7am. He will wake up in the middle of the night, fuss a little (I do not go in since it usually only lasts for a minute)then settle himself back to sleep on his own. I don't know if it is a fluke or if the BAby Whisperer technique/routine has finally kicked in. We will see how tonight and subsequent nights go. It has been nice to have some sleep back though.

Gotta run, Colin just woke from his nap and is crying--this was a 1.5 hour nap!!! Talk to all again soon!

Kathi:
Congratulations!!! That is great. I would keep trying on the afternoon nap, it seems most kidlets need it 'til about age 1. He will probably take to it eventually. Whoo hooo!

that is, need two daytime naps til age one. Then mine kept the afternoon one but I moved it earlier in the day.

YEAH!!!!

I bought the baby whisperer book too...it's so awesome-just full of usable ideads! Unfortunately my little guy has an ear infection (fever all Labor day weekend) but he's nearly over it. This weekend we will begin working diligently on this. Tonight we worked on just getting used to the crib and he's definitely doing better with that. To all the pregnant mommies to be out there-this is a must read!!!! Joey is a spirited baby-so I think I have my work cut out for me!

RE: YEAH!!!!

Hi everyone,
Well, things have not been so good since I last posted. The sleeping through the night thing stopped after I posted that--I guess I jinxed myself! Anyway, I have come to the realization that Colin has come to rely on me to fall asleep. The Baby Whisperer was great in terms of getting him back into the crib but now we need to teach him to fall asleep on his own. I have started doing a modified Ferber--letting him cry it out for awhile. Last night was the first time. It was soooooo hard to let him cry. I tried to put him down at around 7:30 when he started really rubbing his eyes and showing signs of sleepiness. I put him in the crib awake and walked away. Well, he worked himself up into such a lather--you would have thought that I was torturing him. I waited only like 2 minutes (seemed like hours!!) and then went in to reassure him. I patted him and told him it was okay. I did not pick him up. I walked away. Again, he got himself into a tizzy. I then decided it was not worth it at that point. I was crying and he was crying. I pulled him out of the crib and brought him back downstairs with us. He stayed up until around 9:00 at which point I decided to try again. This time he only cried about 8 minutes and not as intensely as earlier, then he passed out and slept the whole night through--until about 7:45 am. When i went into his room in the morning, he was just lying there playing with his binkie and smiling. I let him cry it out for his morning nap and he fell asleep after about 5 minutes without a lot of dramatics. I tried to put him down for an afternoon nap--he fussed, fell asleep but only lasted for about 25 minutes but by then he was nearing dinner time so he was probably hungry. Anyway, that is my update. Hopefully, tonight will go a little smoother in terms of crying it out. We shall see.

Wish us luck!
Kathi and Colin---still hanging in there!!
