skin turns bright red

I noticed this morning that when I exercise that my skin gets red and blotchy, does that happen to everyone when they exercise? I find that real weird.

Hi Leslie, My face definitely turns red and blotchy when I do cardio. I used to be an aerobics instructor many years ago and I would leave class looking worse than my students. I have pale skin and would turn really red, but stay white around my mouth as if I was sick, but I always felt fine. My 15-year-old son is kind of pale also and has very light hair. He also turns red and blotchy in the face when outside working.

Mine does every time I do a cardio workout. I get it across my stomach and my face turns really red as well as my neckline. I'm pretty sure its just a heat rash. Mine goes away as soon as I cool down and take a shower.

I also turn very red during exercise, much more so with cardio, but sometimes even after a hard weight workout I get red. I also have very fair skin. People have commented before that they didn't think it was good for me to get that red, but I feel fine, and after hearing your comments it sounds like it's not abnormal. I was never worried about it, but it's still good to hear your experiences.

I have had this problem when my blood preasure is too high!

You may want to consider a BP check. After losing some weight, this does not happen as often. But, I'm going to lose a bit more so that I never have this happen.

Leslie - as long as you feel fine I'm sure it's ok. My face gets very red during cardio activities. Although Dona brings up a good point about BP, I really don't think it's too unusual to be "all red faced and sweaty" (as my BF puts it) when doing cardio - especially at Cathe's intensity. At my last physical a few months back, my doctor told me my BP and RHR were indicative of a "conditioned athlete." But still I look like a beet after a round with IMax.

Hi Leslie, this happens to me when I do the IMAX workouts. When I get my lungs and heart to work really hard. But when I do strength training, my skin is fine.

I'm 5'4", weigh 125, and I've been told that I have the blood pressure of a teenager (no lie, a nurse actually told me that one time, after taking it, and I'm 40). I think it (your face turning red) just happens to some people. Regarding what I said earlier about my face getting red after strength training, I'm sure that has happened, although it hasn't gotten really red, but it was probably after a heavy lower body workout, because of my heart rate getting high (like in PS SL&A).

Not red, but sweaty

I took a step class at a community college first period. Well two hours later, I'd be sitting in math class looking like a tomato with a ponytail. Now, thanks to Cathe, I am in much better shape. My face doesn't get red anymore (not sure why?), but I sweat like crazy nowadays. Even doing just lifting or ab/plank work makes me perspire like I'm running a marathon in the sun! Anyone know why?

RE: Not red, but sweaty

Hi Jillybean!

I seem to recall Aquajock posting something about heavy sweating... you know, one of those really informative posts that she can whip up so easily! Anyway, from what I recall, she said that a fit body is more efficient at recognizing when it needs to cool down, or something to that effect. So, it takes less work for your body to start sweating. I know I probably botched that explanation badly, but what I took from it was that the fitter you are, the easier you sweat. That's why I'm a proud sweater! Lol. A proud "person who sweats easily."

Editing back in to add the link to the post I referred to!

RE: Not red, but sweaty

Jillybean, that sounds like me. I used to get totally red faced after running in gym class when I was in junior high. Like you, I am in much better shape now, and it doesn't happen anymore. Interesting.

RE: Not red, but sweaty

Jillybean,

I apologize for getting off subject but I wanted to ask you a question. I hope you are the Jilybean that wrote the famous CTX rotation.

I am following the jillybean CTX rotation. Any recommendation on how long I should do the rotation? I have loved it so far and plan on doing it for awhile yet.

Thanks,

Jojo
