Sirius Satellite Radio - Equipment ??

I'm thinking about subscribing to Sirius. I'm looking at some of the plug and play units that you can use in the car (I drive a fair amount for work), and then take out to use in the house, office, etc. Can anyone recommend a particular brand or model? Any "must have features"?

TIA

Gayle - Can't help you with the equipment - but it's a great idea. I have XM and I love it for my long commute.

I have had Sirius for 6 months and love it very much. It really depends on how much you want to spend. I have the basic Kenwood system that comes with a car and home attachment. They are selling it for $75 dollars on Sirius direct: https://home.sirius.com/webDUWI/HomePage.aspx

It is really easy to use in both your car and home, but if you use it in your car, you must have a tape deck in order for it to work. Also I have a C.C. Crane audio transmitter that I use with in my house, (which transfers the audio to any radio, if you don't have a audio transmitter you can plug it into most stereos, it also can be plugged into computer speakers). The more expensive models come with a built in FM Modulator, which would transfer the signal to any radio.

It just pops out of the receiver, so it can easily be transferred from home to car use. Hope this was any help.........

I'm an XM fan as well. I've already converted several of my friends and neighbors to XM as well (they all are happy). I love the service and, I believe, is cheaper than Sirius...

Regardless of which one you go with, they all are great given you don't have to worry about losing a station! :)

Gayle,

Do you have broadband internet ? (cable or dsl)

If so you don't need the home unit for Sirius. Sirius allows you to log on and listen to music online for free through your computer. You can still do other things on the computer.

I have Sirius in both vehicles and love it, its the best thing to happen to radio. This April I drove from Vermont to DC and never had to change stations or lost signal even in the mountains, no commercials either.

I bought the cheapest XAct unit for both vehicles, installation was a snap. The unit could move into the house if I bought the home base unit but since I can listen through my computer why spend the extra dough?

A couple of the car manufacturers are working with Sirius on the next generation to include 6 channels of kids tv to keep the kiddies busy in the car!

Hi Dave,

Unfortunately, I'm still in dial-up country at home. :(

Thanks for the other info. That's a big help.

We also live out in the country & have dial up. I like to listen to programs through out the day & didn't want to tie up the phone line all day to listen to programs, so the Sirius Sat. Radio works good for me. Glad that I could be of some help to you!

Hi I will be happy to let you know that I have had the Sirius Plug and Play since Christmas. I got it for myself and my husband for our anniversary and have loved it!! I do home health therefore my car is my office and I can't tell you how bored I was before I got the unit. As so far as must have features I don't have anything fancy other than the plug and play and the boombox here at home. Model? Gee I don't know what I have but it is longer in the north/south direction. I hope you understand what I mean by that..........
I will say that I am very happy that I have it. My husband is an over-the-road driver (18 wheeler) and it is a priceless thing for him because there are some towns that don't have any TV reception so the radio is his salvation. Oh and if I am not mistaken he installed that unit in his truck himself.
If you have anyother questions I will try to help you but I can say that you won't be sorry to get one.
Lynn
