Silly question about makeup

Just thought I'd ask, what do you put on first, eyeshadow or mascara? I put my eyeshadow on first and then mascara, but sometimes the mascara gets on my eyelid and ruins the eyeshadow. Kind of ticks me off. Not sure if I should go with mascara first and then eyeshadow? I know, stupid question!

I always put my shadow on first. I sometimes get the mascara on my eyelid too but it seems if I do it the other way around my lashes are in the way! They curl up more toward my lids after I use my eyelash curler. You have to "work" fast to get that mascara off before it dries on your lids, don't ya'?

I put on eyeshadow on first. If you get mascara on your eyelid, just wipe it quickly and reapply the eyeshadow. I've never had a problem doing it this way. Sometimes I would put mascara on first before putting on an eyeliner. Usually, it's eyeshadow first then mascara. Another good trick I use is if I want to put mascara on first, I only do one stroke each eyelid then put on eyeshadow after the mascara dries then I'd reapply mascara. The only time I have bad luck with makeup is in the summertime especially if it's so hot outside and the house is warm even though I have AC on.

I don't wear eyeshadow or mascara often but I do it the other way-mascara first-for the exact reason you mentioned! :)

I always do eyeliner, mascara, then shadow...If the mascara "bumps" my upper lid, it's easy as pie to wipe it off without disturbing anything else!

Did you ever dream there could be so much information about make-up application? Anyway, I found some instructions that answer your query.

Applying Mascara
Start by applying mascara to the lower lashes by holding the wand perpendicular to the eye and parallel to the lashes. Combine this technique with the traditional upper-lash application of brushing the mascara wand from the base of the lashes up. Keep an old, clean mascara wand in your makeup bag to be used for removing mascara clumps and separating lashes.

Have you ever had mascara end up on the eyelid or under the eye while you're applying it? Wait until it dries completely and then chip it away with a cotton swab or your sponge. Most of it will just flake off, with very little repair work needed. Always check for mascara smudges; they can look sloppy and distracting.

I rarely wear shadow, but when I do, it's in this order:
shadow, liner, mascara (I never even thought of a different order, because this seems most logical to me).

Ditto Kathryn. If I do get mascara or eyeliner on my lids (or overshoot my line) I use a Q-tip swab dipped in make-up remover to erase the stray mark so I don't make a big mess or smear.

I put the eye shadow on first. Then I brush off my lashes with a clean brush - because sometimes I see people with eyeshadow on the tops of their lashes, and I think that looks awful! Then I put mascara on last.

Eyeshadow first then mascara. If your eyelid is a little bit droopy, use the index finger of the opposite hand to lift it, apply the mascara with your other hand and wait about 30 seconds for the mascara to dry. If you still get mascara on your lids use a qtip with a tiny bit of moisturizer to remove the spot where you got mascara, then use the other end of the qtip to apply a little bit of eyeshadow where you just removed the mascara. Hope this helps. :)

I always apply my MAC paint first - then eyeliner - then shadow - then mascara. I love the MAC paints - they keep your shadow from creasing and makes it last much longer.

I love MAC products but the sales people are so frightening to look at. Honestly, I walk on by because I don't want to be waited on by some guy wearing more make-up than I do.

Yea - most of my eye colors are MAC - and yea - the sales counter can be intimidating/scary. I do a lot of my purchases online with them, although harder to do if you are looking for a new colors. I did have one of my best consults at a MAC counter with a guy - he was very informative and turned me on to some great new colors, I think he was wearing the same ones at the time... hehe...

I have their foundation and loose powder. I love them, but geesh--why do the guys have to be made up like freaks? Seriously, that does not play well in the midwest. I guess I'm easily frightened in my old age. LOL!

I can't stand that either. It makes your lashes look dirty. Needless to say, eyeshadow, eyeliner then mascara.

I forgot about the primer. Yes, a primer is an absolute must if you want your shadow to last & not crease or slide off. My shadow will stay put for even my longest days.
