:-(
i started getting sick yesterday. today i woke up and can barely swallow since my throat hurts so bad. i have a fever and i feel terrible. the bad part is that finals start tomorrow. i didn't study today b/c i felt so crummy. i caught it from people who insist on coming to class with the flu and cough all over everything. It should be common courtesy to just stay home when you are that illx(

Oh no, I am so sorry! I have been feeling less than stellar today as well, so I sympathize.

I hope you get well enough to study for your finals! Get well soon!

My kids graduated HS this year and it really p***es me off to see the school rewarding perfect attendance, especially when you see greater than one year perfect attendance.

Pump the kids full of Advil and send them anyway!

Good luck with the finals.

As a teacher I certainly empathize when sick people (in this case, children) show up when they should clearly stay home!

This p***ed me off even greater when I was taking chemo and I was 'immuno-compromised' which means that the chemo made it harder for my body to fight off infections. Thank you, little Jenny, for coughing right in my face! Ick!

Good luck and I hope you feel better. Sometimes little gargle with warm salt water can help your throat feel better. It sounds gross, but it does work.

I'm a teacher, too, and can appreciate what's being said here. My favorite is: send little Jenny to school when she's sick but keep her home to go shopping "just because."

You know you're a germophobe when your students give you large quantities of Bath & Body anti-bacterial gels at the holidays. :p :)

ETA: I forgot to say, feel better soon & good luck with your finals!!

When I was teaching I relied heavily on Vitamin C. I took it every day and any time I felt the sniffles. I also washed my hands as many times a day as I could. Washing off the desks once a week also helped. I also remember "pink eye". You could get that just by looking at someone. Those kids always got sent to school to spread it!

i took tylonol day cold relief today. once it kicked in i felt great and did a workout. not the smartest thing but i'm a little compulsive. i did well on my first exam. 5 more to go. i actually feel better tonight. my fever hasn't returned which is a good sign. i've been taking zicam since i first felt sick and i swear by the stuff

I am a teacher too (of 1st graders). This tops them all: The e-mail from a mother said:
"Pleae keep an eye on my daughter. She woke up with a fever, but she cried that she did not want to miss school. I just couldn't bear to see her in tears, so I sent her. If she seems sick, please send her to the nurse."

Or the lovely discussion that happens quite frequently between the students and me:
Johnny: I don't feel good (as Johnny walks in the door first thing in the morning).
Me: What doesn't feel good?
Johnny: My tummy. I think I'm going to throw up.
Me: Uh-oh...aim it in the trash can-not on my desk!
Me: Wow Johnny, did you feel sick before you came to school?
Johnny: Yes, I threw up all night, but my mom made me come to school anyway.
This happens quite regularlyx( . Of course, they go right to the nurse and are sent home, but not after a big ordeal like throwing up.
