Shrinking Violets Check-in for January 22-28, 2007

Shrinking Violets Check-in

I am still pressing on and persevering. I am very happy that my weight is moving in the right direction, but I have a long road ahead of me. This is a marathon, and I need to pace myself and keep running the race with endurance.

I had a coughing fit at 3:00 a.m. and had a hard time settling down and getting back to sleep. It is not a true cough now. It is more of a tickle in my throat.

I did the Kickbox cardio this morning. My legs were sore from Leaner Legs, and my kicks were definitely not high this morning. This is another great workout. The CTX Series is a gem. I like to warm-up with cardio before my weight workouts, and these cardio workouts are just the right length. I wore weighted gloves, and my shoulders were on fire. I did the high impact drills on my rebounder.

I did Pyramid Upper Body for the first time since August. Mercy! This workout wiped me out this morning. I really struggled with the last few reps at the top of the pyramid for chest and biceps. My chest is already starting to get sore. Pikes on the stability ball are still out of my league. It is my dream to do one this year. Hopefully, they will be easier when my butt is lighter!

I am tired tonight, so I bounced on my rebounder and finished previewing Step Blast for tomorrow instead of driving to the club and jogging in the pool. My eating was clean again today. My energy was consistent all day. My meals and snacks are packed for tomorrow. I am ready to enjoy a warm bubble bath, relax, and get to bed early.

Wendy, I am glad Joey is okay.

Jean, I hope your knee feels better soon.

Maeghan, I hope your ankle heals soon.

Kali, I am still praying for you. I hope you hear good news!

Kim, did you get a workout in today?

Sunny, where are you? I miss you!

Blessings,
Heather B.

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good Morning Violets. :)

Heather: Oooooohhhh, kickboxing with sore legs! Gotta love it! In week 1 of the X I did the cardio as is and they have kenpox the day after working legs...WOW! It's a beatiful thing!;)

Well, I stretched last night. I became VERY aware of my chest muscles as well! They don't hurt unless I stretch them but when I did...OUCHEES!}( My lats are STILL on fire. I LOVE IT! No back work for me today, thank goodness! LOL I have shoulders/arms and ARX on tap after work today.

I am loving what the X is doing for me. I have a really good feeling about this program. Increased appetite, no weight gain, feeling stronger, tighter and more pumped, etc. My fears about the serious decrease in cardio were for nothing! :+

All righty....gotta get a move on...I'll be back later girls!

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Happy Wednesday Violets!

Heather, I know for me after I've had a cough and get the tickle at night, it's finally going away. I've noticed that w/ DS's too. It IS annoying tho. Keep perservering. We're all in this together and yes it is a process.

Great workout yesterday Meg! I don't think I'd even attempt that! LOL! How's your ankle? Did you stay on track with your eating yesterday?

Wendy, 2-20 is a go, so start planning. Are you kidding me? Our host/cook will cook for us before he goes and throw it in the freezer. :7:7

Well I got my butt out of bed w/ DH at 6 am and I am done w/ the warmup and 1st combo os StepWorks, and the leg tracks from Jari's S&L. So I got my hour in YAY! Eating was awesome yesterday. And the only thing I had after 6pm was a hard boiled egg white and a slice of healthy ham. I am determined to stick with it. Even come the weekend.

Got to run. Puppy has a checkup right after the boys get dropped off for school and I seriously need a shower. ICK!

Hi to all the Violets! :)

Be back later!

Kali

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good morning!
The ankle is better. Much less swelling, I can move it around, and it doesn't hurt as much. I still have it wrapped and will do the ice again to be sure. Of course still no jumping around on it, although I want to! LOL! I have SERIOUS DOMS from yesterday !! YIPPEEE!! Usually my DOMS don't hit till later in the day, but I woke up with these. Every UB muscle. Even a little in the abs. I am pretty darn proud getting that good of a WO with one good leg! hehe.

So today, I might try to do LB floor work. I have to play around and see what I have. Nothing with pressure on the ankle of course, which means no hamstring presses. I will also do the rest of the MTV Pilates too. Might not be till tonight though as I have my niece today. Canceling my walk today too, which sucks since tomorrow and Fri are supposed to be wicked cold again.

So Kali- good for you! I did good yesterday, except for the small piece of bread (big yummy loaves from the bakery) and I had two pieces of chocolate candy at 1am when I was up with Connor LOL! He had the itchys. He has wicked dry sensitive skin in the winter.

Wendy- you are really selling me on the P90x. I can't wait to see your results when you are done. You are doing so good!

Heather- keep trucking! You are doing really well. You should be proud.

Hi Jean, Kim, and SD!

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good morning everyone. I only hae a quick minute. I got up and did my 15 on the treadmill and will try to squeeze something in later. Knee is still bothering me. It's the outside, right at the joint. Do any of you know any stretches that reach that area. I can't seem to find a move that stretches the outside of the knee area.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Jean

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Jean, I don't know of any stretches for the knees sorry. Maybe search it, I remember reading threads on stretches for sore body parts.

Meg, glad you've got some DOMS going on! Just be careful with that ankle. I hear you on the bread from the bakery. DMIL works at a local one (and we are very small town here) and brings it for us every week! UGH! Watch it with those chocolates girly. ;) Hope Connor doesn't suffer too much w/ the winter itch.

I did not have any DOMS really this morning, but now my Bi's are sore! I didn't even work Bi's today!! Maybe from holding the weights when I did leg work.

OHHH!! I got the job at Physicans Weight Center! I start tomorrow at 10 am to start training! They said it's really simple. Let's hope so. I'm on my computer constantly, but I don't "work" on it. I'm sure it'll be fine. I'll feel better once I know what I'm doing.

Puppy is doing good, she's gained weight and got the last of her shots till next Jan. She's started going to the door for us too when she has to go out which is a really cool thing.

Wendy, DH said he'll take care of everything before he goes. LOL!

Hi SD, Kim, and Heather! Hope you're all well!

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Well I was going to do lower body work at lunch, but as Kali suggested I did a search on knee stretches on the web. The article I pulled up talks about how knees are complex organs, if you are experiencing pain, you should rest it to not cause other damage. So I guess I won't do leg work. So I guess today will be sort of a rest day. Got in my mile this morning and I'm slowly building up my speed.

Kali, Congrats on the job. Once you get started you'll have to tell us all about it. Glad to here the puppy is doing well. She's just so cute.

Jean

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

I managed a WO. I did the floor work from B&G, using my ankle weights. I did not do the hamstring roll-ins or ham presses. But I did do the glute squeezes on the ball (I think from DM), and I did seated leg extensions on the ball. I then did MTV Pilates leg segment, then did Rainbeau Mars Yoga Dusk, the inversions, savasahna, then teh bonus WO eliminating the downward dogs. I wanted to do more yoga, but I am still a little swollen, so not pushing it.

Jean- good luck with the knee. Take it easy. Sucks though doesn't it?

Kali- good for you! HOw exciting. I struggled today, but realized that I now have my period, so that explains alot! I went months with no period after my IUD was put in, but now it is back, with all the lovely cravings and bottomless pit feelings too!x(

Shrinking Violets Check-in

I survived Step Blast this morning. This was the first time in almost a year that I have attempted to do Step Blast in its entirety. I did not bond with this workout the first few times I tried it last year. I was ready to give up on it when I bought the Timesaver DVD and discovered that I enjoyed doing one combination at a time. It dawned on me today why this is not my favorite step workout. There is way too much repetition for my taste. I prefer workouts with less teaching time. I mastered the fast foot repeater for the first time, but I struggled through the third combination and kept ending up on the wrong side of the step. In my opinion, this choreography is far trickier than any other Cathe workout I own. I was tempted to skip the challenge. I am so glad I persevered because that turned out to be my favorite part of the whole workout. I had a blast literally. I love the finished combinations with no breakdown. I had fun and sailed through even the third combination. I am not sure why I have a hard time following the third combination while Cathe is teaching it. I did the third blast on my rebounder and got a great workout. This is definitely one of Cathe’s more intense step workouts. I like Step Blast, but it does not rock my world like Rhythmic Step and Step Works. It kicks my butt, but it does not comfort me or make me happy. I am not wild about the music either. I will likely use the challenge in the future for a short but intense workout or combine it with the step segment from Step, Jump, & Pump.

I went to the club after work and jogged in the pool. I am looking forward to enjoying Step, Jump, & Pump in the morning. It is one of my favorite workouts of all time.

My eating was great again today. Today was a cardio day fueled by plenty of carbs:

Breakfast: Uncle Sam cereal, organic strawberries and blueberries and blackberries, almond milk

Snack: organic celery, natural peanut butter, organic apple

Lunch: corn tortillas, organic pinto beans, organic brown rice (steamed), lettuce, salsa

Snack: organic yogurt smoothie, organic banana

Dinner: baby lima beans (steamed), broccoli (steamed), Parmesan cheese, pink navel orange

My meals and snacks are packed for tomorrow, and I am ready to wrap up this day.

Blessings,
Heather B.

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good morning all.

Heather, glad to hear you survived Step Blast. Your menu sounds so yummy. Keep up the good work.

This morning was GS BBS. Laying low on the knee right now. I think I slightly pulled the ligament on the outside of the knee. It doesn't bother me unless I hit it just right. I found if I wear heels (even just a low 1 inch heel) it hits it just right with every step. So flats for me for the next couple of days.

Maeghan, how's your ankle feeling? I hopeyou recover soon.

Hi Kali, Kim, Sunnydelite and Wendy. What kind of workouts are you planning for the day?

Jean

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good Morning Violets.

Jean, Sorry about your knee. Hope it heals quickly. Did you have fun with BS&B? The GS series is awesome IMO. :)

Meg, Update on that ankle?

I thoroughly enoyed the pain of shoulders and arms and arx y'day!}( This morning I will take a spin class and this afternoon it's YogaX.

I don't have to work today but after the gym I need to run a few errands...bank, post office and possibly Costco. We might get a bit of snow here today! I hope not too much since I need to be out in it!

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Morning Violets!

I was crunched for time this morning cause we got the snow that is headed Wendy's way and had to sweep everything. So I did the 1st 4 combos of LM. I haven't done it on 2 risers in ages and whoa was I glad I was only doing 1/2! I have some DOMS from yesterday so I really felt it. Tonight will either be RTTC or UB w/ Cathe. I'll see what my body feels like later.

Jean and Meg, hope you're doing ok. Jean, stick with the flats.
Meg, TTOM sucks. That's all I can say. I just found a blemish on my chin which means I'm PMSing and it can come any day between now and like the 12! UGH! x( I'm doing great with my eating and really don't feel like craving CRAP!!

Waves to Heather! Your menu does sound yummy!! Way to go with that challenge! I always think I'm gonna skip it and end up doing it and feel awesome. Keep it up. Although it is OK if you don't do it. The combos are plenty good by themselves.

Wendy, I don't think you're supposed to get that much snow. The WM here said it's supposed to head to Jersey and break up. It's a really fine snow anyways. Nonetheless be careful if you're out in it.
We're supposed to get another inch here later too. Probably come when I'm on my way home from work.

I'll let you guys know how I make out later this afternoon. Have a great day!

Hi Kim and SD wherever you are!

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Where ya'll at?

I just got done with MIS upper body and the last 4 LM combos. Didn't plan on LM again but figured why not?

I think tomorrow will be LIC LB circuit.

Have a good night Ladies.

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

I just finished Yoga X. I did it straight through in full all at once for the first time! YEAY! :+

I need to get a life if this is what excites me, ey? LOL

Kali, Good work out today!

Good night everyone!:)

Shrinking Violets Check-in

This was a delightful day. After my quiet time, I enjoyed Step, Jump, & Pump. I love this workout. It is so much fun with plenty of variety. The step segment contains some of my favorite choreography. I love the way Cathe constantly changes the routine. There is never a dull moment. The power jigs make me super happy. I smile during the whole workout! I am a hi-lo lover too, and this workout features some of Cathe’s best floor aerobics. I adore all the pivots and turns. I love the music too as well as the bright colors of the outfits. There is nothing I would change about this workout.

My knees were a little sore this morning. Step Blast definitely took a toll. I love the blast challenge with no breakdown. I like the music in the challenge too. That is my favorite part of the workout, so I need to stick with it as an express workout until I get closer to my goal weight. I can handle one combination at a time in a Timesaver rotation, but Step Blast as a whole is not as joint friendly as Cathe’s other workouts. The double ricochets could be the problem.

The weather was beautiful today. It was warm and sunny. I am so thankful for the welcome relief from the winter weather of last week.

I went to the club tonight and jogged in the pool with Rebecca. I am loving and looking forward to my water workouts. The warm water is soothing and restorative, and I feel so peaceful when I step out of that pool. It is a nice time for me to meditate and pray when I am alone or visit with Rebecca when she joins me.

Today was a circuit training day fueled by plenty of carbs with a little extra protein:

Breakfast: steel-cut oatmeal (steamed), natural peanut butter, raw honey, organic banana

Snack: organic raw almonds, organic raisins

Lunch: potato (baked), cottage cheese, cucumber slices in raw vinegar

Snack: cottage cheese, pineapple

Dinner: romaine lettuce, iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, carrots, broccoli, cucumber slices, organic egg (boiled), homemade honey mustard dressing (raw honey and yellow mustard), ak-mak whole wheat crackers, navel orange

It is time for me to settle down and get ready for bed. Tomorrow is Friday!

I invited my friend Rebecca to join our check-in. I hope she does because y’all will love her!

Blessings,
Heather B.

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good Morning Everyone!:)

So who else is in the middle of a deep freeze besides me!? I can't believe how COLD it got! It was just in the friggin' high 60's what...like A WEEK AGO!?!? ACK! LOL

Heather, Nice menu there girl! Keep up the good work!:)

So I feel great knowing that I got through Yoga X last night. I was convinced that I could never do it so it was quite an accomplishment for me!:)

Today is Legs and Back and ARX. I may also be running at the gym for a little while with a friend. If I do, I will adjust tomorrow's work out accordingly since Saturday is my long run day.

I have to go to work today. BLECH. LOL I hope to be able to read a bit more of the PT book at some point too.

Have a great day!

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Happy Friday Violets!

Have a good day at work Wendy. It's 3 degrees here right now. "ACK" is right! Way to go w/ the Yoga! I know you didn't think you could do it. It'll probably do wonders for you. Keep it up.

Heather, sounds like you're doing well. I find some of the workouts are tougher on my joints than others as well. I'm glad you're feeling good. Look forward to chatting with Rebecca!

I was going into work for 10 am but we have a 2 hour delay due to the cold so I'm going to go for 11 or so. They told me not to ever worry if I'm late, or have to leave cause of the kids or whatever. I cannot believe this opportunity fell into my lap. And the work is SIMPLE. All I'm doing is data entry of the products the girls sell and the new client info and some insurance forms.

So since I have time I'm going to Lower Body circuit of LIC.

Hi to all the other Violets!

Kali

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good morning all. Well today I decided to take the dog for a jog. Knee is feeling fine as long I don't do any side to side movement so I figured jogging would be ok. Hope I don't regret that. Well I got to the 1 mile turn around point and just felt like I could keep going so I went ahead and jogged to the 2 mile turn around point so I actually jogged 4 miles. I haven't done that in quit awhile.

Happy Friday to all.

Jean

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Hey all. I did LIC today. No problems with my ankle so far. I wish this one had stonger leg work, but that's OK. My abs were on fire though.

Jean- hope the knee holds out! I was nervous today too, but had to do something.

Heather- it would be great to meet Rebecca!

Wendy- good for you on the yoga. THat is what I need now, some serious yoga!

Kali- I didn't too good yesterday I tell ya. Today has been much better. Stress and PMS.....need I say more?

RE: Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good Evening everyone.

My work out was done as planned. I thought I might run with a friend as well (at the gym, not out in the cold!) but that got post-poned. Tomorrow is my (long) run on the TM and then Sunday is my rest day. Monday begins my first "recovery week" of the X! I can't believe it's almost here already! WOW! At the end of the recovery week it will be picture and measurement time! I hope that's a GOOD thing!}(

Well, I'm feeling a bit sleepy. I think I'm going to stick my head back into the PT book for a few more pages and then head off to bed.

I'll check back with you gals in the morning!

Night Chicas!:*
