Shoveling snow

I consider myself of above average fitness (at least compared to the average bear....maybe not to faithful Catheites!) I can hang with Cathe in most videos...strength training and cardio and the Imaxes...I just started P90X and feeling pretty good. So why is it so hard to shovel snow????? I shoveled for about 2 hours today...and I feel like I have been run over by a bus! My butt hurts, my shoulders hurt and I'm wiped out!!!! My next door neighbor came out and took pity on me and helped for the last 45 minutes...(my DH is out of the country working for a while) , so at least I can back out of my driveway now. Does anyone else have the same problem and feel like an out of shape lump when performing other activities????

I think that for one thing, you are using your body in a different way than you do with Cathe. I can't think of any DVD that has the throw motion that is done in shoveling. But if you are bending correctly, all those squats you do should help:) I just think that if we DIDN'T work out,how much MORE sore and worse we would feel

Hello Debra.

I was shoveling snow here in West MI (Grand Rapids) and it was heavy
and wet cause it was so warm out. My issue was that it was too warm to be wearing my ski jacket and heavy boots. It's great that you have neighbors to help. Not sure why it aches, maybe using our muscle groups in a strained/tense position for long periods of time?
Hange in there!! It's only the beginning.

PS-Not a P90Xer here, not yet.

Debra,

2 hours of shoveling snow is beyond super human!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should be so proud of yourself. I live in IL and that snow we got this year is super EXTRA heavy. I "treid" shoveling the snow and......well I tried......

This is no ordinary snow. You are an extaordinary gal' The shovels they sell around here weigh at least 20lb themselves. (At least the ones hubby buys.)
Give yourself a break before you break somethin'

Good job

Kathy

Good for you for even attempting it. I remember a couple years ago, I tried doing the same thing, and boy, was I wiped out. Think my DH was out of town then, too. We've got a snow blower that DH uses... but it's this big, heavy beast, and I don't even know how to get it started. Guess I should figure it out, huh? Especially since I know my DH is going to be traveling at least 1 week a month this winter.

Take care... and remember to tell friends/relatives from warmer climates who call you to gloat... warm weather's for wimps!!
Tee hee.;-)

I completely agree. I can do Cathe videos and have even gotten to the point where I can at least do all of the exercises in her new videos at the same weight level as Cathe herself. I feel like I am in great shape. However, when I was shoveling snow for about an hour and a half (Illinois)...my lower back killed!! I guess I need to do more lower back exercises, but I felt as though I was incredibly out of shape!

Hi to all you ladies from Illinois...That's where I am too!!!Where are all of you guys? We currently live in Naperville.

Thanks for listening to me complain!! I was walking around like an old man last night. I feel much better today...and ready to tackle a leg workout!!!

Happy sledding!!
