Shoulder surgery

I will be having shoulder surgery this Friday for a few small tears and fraying. Likely recovery time is 3 months. Afterwards I hope to finally get some strength back in my body since this has take a severe toll in my workout ability, particular weights. But I'll need to go slow. I was thinking maybe STS and then RWH? Any ideas from anyone else that has gone through this? I think it would be best to stay away from the metabolic type workouts since the speed will be too fast for me at first.

I have not gone through any shoulders surgery. I had a shoulder strain before lifting consistently.
In my opinion STS and RwH are not the best to start from after 3 months recovery. I would suggest 6 to 9 months.
Band workout could be the best followed by 100 reps challenges. STS is very demanding on shoulders. They do assist while working chest and triceps.
Single muscle per day split could be a better step to start from. ICE Series.
All the best.

I had a rotator cuff repair and was in a sling for 2 months with no movement except for at PT. Once I was given the okay, he told me to start slow and with either bands or very light weight. So I started with Cathe's Travel Fit for about 2 weeks, then started with Upper body trisets from the LIS series and did a lot of yoga/stretching for my shoulders and upper body. When I saw him a month later, he couldn't believe how fast my progression was and then gave me the okay to up my intensity but still go slow (don't jump from 3 lbs to 12 lbs for weights) and just listen to my body. By the end of 4 months post op, I was lifting the same weight I was before the surgery. The only move that took the longest to get back from me was front raises. If I went to heavy, my should let me know right away. Best of luck on your surgery and just take it slow.

Best of luck on your surgery. Everyone has given excellent advise to you about taking it slow. You may also want to get in the pool for some recovery-even just treading water in the deep end will work your shoulders all the way around. Of course, check with your doctor as to when this would be advised.

Just want to wish you all the best with your surgery, a complete & eventless recovery and that your shoulder does what it needs to do when all is complete. Take good care. Also, listen to your PT and/or rehab nurse. :)

Ok so that answers my weight question. I assume I should be able to walk pretty much immediately. What about low impact cathe stuff (no weights obviously)?

Since I was in a sling constantly, I found I could only walk, no true cardio. I even found walking at faster speeds difficult because I had a hard time keeping my balance with 1 arm in a sling and not being able to move it in the sling. There was no way for me to move my arm/shoulder in any way or direction because I had an immobilizing sling. This really sucked for 2 months. But if you just get a standard sling, I see faster walking/jogging not as much of an issue. If your lucky enough to have a stationary bike, go all out if you can. I didn't have one.

Well my surgery was eye opening. As usual, my eyes were bigger than my stomach kind of. This surgery really knocked me for a loop! It seems to be much worse than my knee surgery. I haven't even been able to go to work let alone "workout". My first pt appointment is today so I look forward to hearing what my recovery is going to look like. Right now walking around a block without gasping for breath would be nice

Stay positive bchgrl40-You will recover eventually and look back upon this as a blip in your overall fitness journey!

Just focus on your recovery now & get well. :) All the best for your shoulder......(gentle hug)).
I'm sure your PT will give you some fun routines with bands and with the wall!!
