Shoulder Pain

Cathe, I was wondering if maybe you can answer this question. For the past few weeks my shoulder has been sore-it doesn't hurt when I work out, but in the morning it has been stiff. It mainly is the ball on top of my shoulder, and what I mean by that is the little bony ball or bone that sticks up right above the shoulder. It hurts when I push on it, but not when I work out. Just curious if you have ever heard of this before. Thanks,Pam

I am having the exact same pain; I've had it before for a long time then for some reason it went away. Several weeks ago it came back, only a little more severe, and now I have it (much weaker on the other side. Went to the doctor, had x-rays taken, it turns out I have Bursitis. She suggested I not work out for 2 weeks to see if it made a difference, it did somewhat, but I decided to go ahead and start doing upper body anyway, 2 weeks is enough, although I'm sure that if one were to rest a month or so you would see better results I just don't want to lose my tone. I have found that taking ibuprofen on a regular basis really helps a lot, and I'm also trying to ice my shoulder after a heavy work out, although I'm rather lazy about this. I just went through 4 months of waiting for tennis elbow to clear up. I think all these pains or soreness are related and I'm thinking this will eventually go away.

Annabel thanks for the input. I think that is probably what I have, because it doesn't hurt when I work out it just in the morning or if I press on that little bony part on the shoulder. I know I'm going to back off a little on the shoulder work, but I don't want to lose my tone, I have worked too hard to get it. But again, thanks for your input.

I posted about that too last week! Only it's not as bad, just a twinge. I kind of wondered if it was wear and tear from lifting but havent really lifted much to begin with. Be careful though about working out before bursitis clears up, if you do a search on shoulder injuries it they say that they get worse quick if you ignore even a mild pain.

Hi Elvira! While it doesn't sound like anything very serious, I would have this looked at by a doctor. From what you are describing it sounds like a pain that has developed due to a long term repetitive motion which overtime can bring on a nagging and chronic pain. Usually rest and ibuprofin helps this but I still suggest you have it looked at by your doctor and let them tell you what it is.

I had that exact pain in that exact location on the right side and found out it was due to carrying my workout bag on that shoulder for so many years.

Good luck and take care!
