Shoulder pain--please help!

Maximus

OK last week when I was doing incline flies I felt this pretty bad pain in my rear delt. It's really sharp at first but by my 6th or 7th rep it's duller but still pretty bad. I don't feel it at all when I do regular flies or front raises. I figured I'd give it a week & see what happened.

So yesterday I had the same problem but worse. Only on incline flies in the rear delt. I couldn't make it through my 3rd set. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Maybe a pulled muscle? If I have a rotator cuff injury I'm just gonna throw myself off a clocktower. I know so many people who've had this problem & have never fully recovered from it. If I can't do a serious shoulder workout I just don't know what I'll do.

I am sure not an expert Maximus, but I have had tendonitis in my shoulder area before, mine was in front. I just avoided the exercises that hurt it. I also iced the area when I could. Yours could very well be a pulled muscle, so try not to aggravate it with the exercises that hurt. My advice would be to see a Physical Therapist if that is available to you. They can diagnose the problem and give you some advice. Please, stay away from that clocktower!!!...:)..Carole

So you felt a "sharp" pain and continued to work out? Get the to a PT or a doctor, please!

If you do have a rotator cuff injury, which it might be, you'll only aggravate it by continuing to do "serious shoulder workouts" without some rehab.

Yeah, I didn't know if it was a cramp I could just work through, which happens fairly frequently, or something more permanent.

This is the second muscle injury this month. The first was a pulled back muscle about 4 weeks ago. I swear, getting old really sucks. ;(

Still seriously thinking about throwing some pilates & yoga into the workout & gradually phasing out the heavy weightlifting. Problem is, that's the fun part. I don't know what would keep me motivated if I wasn't lifting heavy.

Go to the doctors and request a MRI, etc. Only way to know for sure. I know because my DH use to workout and he screwed up his shoulder awhile back now he has a mild rotator cuff issue which we just found out a few weeks ago. Just had a MRI done to prove it. I don't know if he will therapy or surgery just set, but I am hoping just therapy.

Take care and let us know how you are doing.

Wow Maximus, I can totally relate here. I'm nursing my lower back right now, it hurt so bad last Wednesday I couldn't even dress myself. Its a lot better now but I still haven't worked out yet. I'm so sick of these injuries that I'm about ready to stop lifting heavy as well. I am definitely going to add more yoga and stretching workouts during the week, probably in the evenings when I'm home and relaxing. I think it will help me a great deal.

I wish Cathe would answer that thread you asked her about how her workouts changed. She was on the board a few days ago and didn't answer it. Very frustrating!!
