Should You Train Everyday?

In Oprah's new Boot Camp training, for 12 weeks if you read it closely you are supposed to weight train for 20 minutes 6 days a week. Is that safe?

And can you lose weight AND build muscle by weight training your body everyday as long as you don't do the same muscle groups?
I always thought the rule of thumb for weight training is 30 minutes if weights 3x a day. Or is everyday weight training one of those just "See how your body responds" type of things?

Thanks!

Hi Curvie Girl! I'm not familiar with the program but from what you state, training 6 days a week gives the body one full day off to recover. Plus training 20 minutes a day is not overly taxing on the body. So yes, based on what you wrote, this plan sounds safe.

"And can you lose weight AND build muscle by weight training your body everyday as long as you don't do the same muscle groups?".....Yes to this too, but in my opinion only for a beginner since you are very limited with this time frame once you get in better shape.

I'm sure the concept is simply to get America more active. If this can be done then the program is successful.

Thank you Cathe! I appreciate your quick response. As you get more in shape, how many days and length of time should you put into weight training? I don't know if I ever will be as good as you, but I would like to maintain a good schedule to build on.

BTW, I just recently bought Pyramid Upper & Lower body. I love it!
