Shape and Fitness Magazine

Does anyone else notice that these two magazines tend to have celebreties on their front cover? Not that it would normaly bug me but for some reason lately it does. I remember when Angie Harmon was on the cover of Shape and she was talking about just having a baby and how she never exercised she just watched her diet to lose the weight. This month is was Ashlee Simpson. Why can't they put celebreties who are known for living a healthy lifestyle for more than 6 months and who eat clean and exercise? Better yet why isn't Cathe on the cover of one of these magazines? I just don't get it. Gabrielle Reece (professional volley ball player) who is married to Laird Hamilton (professional big wave surfer) and is a model and professional athlete gets one small page in the magazine. Why couldn't they put her on the cover? Ashley Simpson is not exactly who I would look up to for a healthy lifestyle. I was so bothered I ripped off the cover and the article. Okay I'm done venting.

Phew, I thought you were going to tell us there was an article on Cathe and Mama Deb in the latest Fitness magazine!!!

I'm with you on the celebrity covers. There is nothing about Ashley Simpson that makes me thing "Fit & Healthy". Skinny is all that really comes to mind. I like to see people who look like they can lift more than a miniature chihuahua.

It's probably the same reason men's mags (GQ, Maxim, etc.) always have women on their covers. That's always bugged the sh*t outta me. I mean, have you ever seen a man on the cover of Cosmo? :p

They're on there b/c they sell. ;-)

I agree with Laura. Celebrities sell......big time. These magazine editors know that the photo of Angie Harmon/Ashlee Simpson/whatever celebrity of the moment on the front of their magazine will catch your eye while you're walking through the grocery store. A lot of people love reading about "stars' diet tips". Whatever.

I agree though---GET CATHE ON THE FRONT COVER!!

Well, I confess that I did buy the new Fitness for the article-that-must-not-be-mentioned-again(okay, I'm a mag junkie, but I haven't gotten a Fitness in a long time)...I still can't believe I bought anything with that dingbat View chick on the front.

EWWW, I know -- she almost kept me from buying it, article-that-must-not-be-mentioned notwithstanding!

I'm glad that a lot of you are also miffed about buying the latest issue of Fitness magazine with the unmentionable article. I bought it because I thought it might be interesting. Holy cow, besides that one teeny article that we were all interested in, there was nothing else remotely interesting in that rag. I was so irritated that I spent close to $4 on that thing. What a waste of trees!

Whew, I was afraid someone would rip into me for saying this but I'm glad others agree. I mean heaven forbid they actualy show women who exemplify the fitness tips and healthy living that they advertise. Ugh, I mean the Fitness article that has the Cathe article in it, . I mean heck put her on the cover! I know celebraties sell but I would love to believe that the majority of people who buy these magazines are people who actually want to live healthy and fit lives. I mean not to long ago Ashlee Simpson was on the news for being drunk and throwing a fit at a Mc Donalds at some obscene hour late in the evening. Yeah, she is the perfect model of fitness (insert sarcasm, and eyeball rolling here). If Shape or Fitness has Cathe, Jai, Lorraine, or even some other fitness instructor with their fitness routine, and diet tips, I would buy it quite frankly when we buy (and yes, I am guilty of having a subscription) we're reading about tips from the celebrities trainer, and nutritionist, not the celebrity. I doubt Ashlee Simpson has ever run a mile or pushed a push up in her life.
