Seven Things I Want to Learn

Cathlete
Tell us what you want to learn how to do - it can be fitness related or not, and shouldn't be something you already know how to do:

1. How to drive a stick shift

2. Memorize a Shakespeare Sonnet

3. Do a real honest-to-God pike on the ball

4. Ride piaffe and tempi changes on a schoolmaster dressage horse

5. Learn how to be a good sport

6. How to play Bridge

7. How to speak French (at least a little bit!)

Anyone else game?

Piaffe is trotting in place, tempi changes is like skipping, only on the back of a horse. Think of what your legs do when you skip, now imagine doing that on a horse. Fun!!

What are your seven?

*how to play soccer
*how to run a marathon
(first two are just dreams; I have horrid knees)

*relearn Spanish
*relearn how to play mahjong
(I've forgotten both. It's what happens when you don't use what you know.)

*how to cook well
*how to believe
*how to forgive

2. Learn Spanish

3. Make a really good pie crust

4. Disaster readiness (I'm actually going to take a course on this through the Red Cross starting in October, can't wait!)

5. How to not be afraid of dogs

6. Chop things the way my DH-the-former-chef does

7. How to not worry so much :)

Pinky, you're just so awesome:)

1. Learn to drive a stick shift
2. Learn to shoot a hand gun (I don't know why)
3. Relearn how to ski (downhill)
4. How to say NO more often without feeling guilty
5. How to do a jump up spinny back kick thing (that's the technical martial arts term for it)
6. How to paint (art not walls)
7. How to sew (I'm not even really very good at sewing buttons)

Sparrow,

There was a great article in the Washington Post Magazine about three or four Sundays back about Americans learning Arabic. It is rated one of the most difficult languages to learn, along with Chinese. They estimated a non-native speaker needs to study it seven years, with at least two years being spent abroad living in an Arabic-speaking country!

Ahhhh.....okay, an equestrian!!!

This is a great thread...I had to think about this for awhile:

1. Shoot a gun/skeet shooting. (yes, this sounds redneck but I'm a Midwestern girl, whaddja expect?!?)

2. Forgive my mother.

3. Backgammon

4. Cook

5. Spanish (Evily can tutor me!)

6. The winning lottery numbers

7. How to fly a private plane purchased with lottery winnings so I can visit my 666 girls anytime I wanted.

Thanks for the encouragment :p

Kidding...yeah it's a tough language but I'm motivated to learn it, you know? What I did learn I actually picked up more quickly than when I was learning French.

I'm going to check out the archives at the library for that article though, might have some resources.

Thanks!

Sparrow
