Seriously disappointed in Jari Love

I love her workouts, but I just received the latest Jari newsletter, in which Jari specifically states that:

"For every extra pound of muscle you develop, you may burn between 30 and 50 extra calories per day!"

It appears that Jari has not been keeping up with the latest research. Very disappointing. :(

I would like to know what the latest research does say. I received the newsletter but only skimmed it, hoping to find an earlier release date for the next ripped DVD. I did not find itx(

Nancy, the only way I can do her workouts is to ignore all of her remarks regarding burning "pure carbs," etc. I think she is seriously misinformed, and it's unfortunate because it really detracts from her workouts. I'm not really into the high-rep thing at the moment, but I do think her workouts have a nice place in the collection.

So... I would say, ignore what you don't need, and love the rest. :)

joanna and dorothy,

Sorry my post was incomplete. I've posted on this before, and didn't want to turn into a broken record (as we used to say in my day). Apparently, a pound of muscle uses only about 6-14 calories per day. Of course, that's still more than a pound of fat uses, but it doesn't amount to much for most women who strength train. Of course, strength training is important for health, and there are many important reasons to keep your muscles strong. But burning calories is, apparently, not one of them. :(

She's not alone: I just read some other article making the same old claim.

I agree. Every time she makes a statement like "this next workout burns pure carbs" I have to roll my eyes (they get quite a workout some days!).

Thanks, because really, 30-50 calories a day more is not enough to go whole hog and eat the side of the barn either. I have never strength trained for the calorie burn anyway, but because I like being strong and fit.

i have to do this with most instructors (like ignoring the 3 million "ya's" or the 2 million "nice" comments!)

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!
