Sept. 11th-how will you spend the day?

Cathlete
My day will start out going to church then serving at the nursery. Later on, my area has done "The Healing Field" listing each person whom lost his/her life that day with a bio marked by American flags. Many victims grew up in this area.
Ten years ago, I was at work when my then CEO came down and said "a plane hit the one of towers of the World Trade Center in NYC," and shortly after, it was announced the second tower was hit. Within the hour, chaos hit at my employment as to stay open or not. That night and following, I watched hours of TV to learn the continual impact of the attack. Two weeks after at work, I waited on a person whom was from the Middle East. He was in distraught which he considers himself an American first and unkind statements were made towards him by co-workers at his work. I could see the pain in his eyes so I treated him like a friend that day. He was stunned in a good way.At church during a worship service following the tragedy, we were challenged on how we would respond individually and cooperately as a Nation.

May GOD bless America.

My day will also start out with going to church. I like the sound of the Healing Field ceremony.
I was at work that infamous morning & our receptionist came running in with the news of the first Tower being hit. We watched in horror as the 2nd Tower was hit & heard about the Pentagon, etc. I remember turning to my boss & saying, "It's not going to stop!" I truly thought that the whole country was going down that day. We watched TV all day long (thanks to our boss)...
I hope that your reaction to your customer overrode some of the nastier reactions that I'm sure he suffered through. Sometimes, people forget that we all bleed red.
& yes, may GOD bless America!

I'll be going to church as well. Also "celebrating" my bday. It'll be a bittersweet day for sure :( May we always remember those we lost and their families.

Decided not to got the Healing Field. Watched GMA yesterday and today plus before the University of Michigan/Notre Dame game, UofM gave a salute/service to those alumni that were victims of 09.11.01..

I will write this:

Spirit of America

Evil came upon our shores
On an early Tuesday morn
Brought by men from foreign lands
Where a cruel plot was borne

It snuck in silent as a thief
And our Spirit It tried to take
There was no warning of Its flight
There was horror in Its wake

Blue sky filled with fire and smoke
Ashes fell like rain
No measure of the loss and grief
As thousands there were slain

Words cannot express emotions
Felt across this Land
Then from the ashes rose a voice
“This act will not stand.”

‘Cause the Spirit of America is alive and doing well
Our faith in God and Country never wavered, never fell
We stand together as One People—Strong and Proud and Free
Unified in Spirit for all the world to see

Evil chose this time and place
To rear Its ugly head
But It roused a Sleeping Giant
Too complacent in his bed

Now wide awake and vigilant
And with military might
It is ours to choose the time and place
To erase this Evil blight

‘Cause the Spirit of America is alive and doing well
Our faith in God and Country never wavered, never fell
We stand together as One People—Strong and Proud and Free
Unified in Spirit for all the world to see

And our grateful hearts will e’er hold dear
The Heroes of that day
The paths they chose, their selfless acts
That put them in harm’s way

They were ordinary people
who stood up and took the call
And struck a blow for humankind
God bless them, one and all

And the Spirit of America is alive and doing well
Our faith in God and Country never wavered, never fell
We stand together as One People—Strong and Proud and Free
Unified in Spirit for all the world to see

WOW, MissL. THANK YOU for sharing this. It truly gave me goose-bumps and I will share it with others.

My day personally began with prayer and meditation before I got out of bed. Then my son and I went to church also. I cried through much of the musical Worship since the songs hit us all on so many levels. Then they showed a video of hope and praise to how many people survived this horrific time. Much of the church were speachless and in tears when our wonderful Pastor told a story of a brave young man on flight 93 whom he had known since he was a child and who was one of those brave men who tackled the hijackers. My best friend and I both were crying hard when Pastor Mike choked up and could not speak. The room was silent save the sniffles and soft crying.

My DS has sooo many questions. The childrens ministry team had a piece of glass from one of the Towers. Her brother was a firefighter who thankfully survived and brought home this piece of glass. Each child touched the glass - silently and with contemplation- no questions at this time. The children left Sunday School quietly on this day.

This evening, DS and I will say a very special prayer and observe a moment of silence. KLOVE radio said a prayer on the way to church this morning and both my son and I were crying.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! To ALL of the brave men and women for the sacrifices and for the lives you saved. And GOD BLESS all those whose lives were lost and HUMONGOUS hugs, prayers and love to the family members who were left without their loved ones.

Thank you JT for starting this thread.

Happy Birthday, EbonyNicole!!
Made it to church for nursery duty only. Don't know what was said about today from the Pastor. Watching the news was hard enough.
Your welcome, Pam.
Great poem/writing, MissL.
Have a Great Week, CatheNation.

Happy Birthday Ebony Nicole & Dixie Girl!
What an awesome poem MissL! Thank you for sharing it with us!
I watched the special hosted by DeNiro. It was hard to watch, since part of the documentary was actually filmed in the Towers during the actual event. The first responders were so brave, & a lot of them have paid drastically with bad health caused by breathing in all the toxins.
Our church played a short video & had prayers interspersed with silence. There wasn't a dry eye in the packed sanctuary.
