Self confidence . . .

I agree with what Sarah says, but keep in mind this will not only be "not easy" to begin with...it will be down right difficult. The reason is you have been giving yourself the negative feedback forever. Just push through the self doubt and continue your mantra. Eventually, like eating and exercise, it will become a habit.

This is actually how behavioral Psychologists train clients althoug sometimes hypnosis is used as well. It will take a while but it will be so worth it.

I was doing some research for work about running and depression and found an interesting tidbit of information. It relates back to negative self talk and how fulfill that negative self talk. A study was done on athletes who play a particular sport. The study was to understand what the difference was between the world class athletes or "tier 1" athletes and the "tier 2" athletes. They found that the tier 2 athletes would ding themselves over and over in their mind over the mistakes they made, whereas the world class athletes acknowledged their mistake, learned from it and moved on.

This is a great thread. Thanks for starting it.

I agree with the magazines - just another way to make ourselves feel inadequate. I picked up an old copy of Self at the doctor and had to put it down....I just felt like all of the "hints" were pretty barbed when I balanced it against the ads and the other articles about how "great" your life can be if you just do this, and this, and this, and this, and this.

My goal this year has been to live more simply and that has helped my self esteem a lot.

It does really make me feel like I am not so alone with it when I see that even my super-duper-pooper-fabulous Cathe buddies have struggles!

Thanks again for starting this thread.
