sciatica nerve issue

You are describing my pain to the T!

Through MRI I have discovered the cause is a herniated disc at L5 S1, and a bulged disc at L4 L5.
I have been dealing with pain in my left glute for a year. I also have pain down the back of the leg to the knee. Then it jumps to my ankle/calf.
Back in the Fall I had a series of cortisone shots. They took the pain away. But as soon as I returned to working out, the pain returned.
I now avoid anything that bends the body forward. It sucks.
I am at my worst upon waking. As long as I stay upright and moving, it is tolerable. Being sedentary is the worst for me.

I don't have any miracle cure for you. But I highly recommend listening to your body. If you can afford it, I would get an MRI.

I feel your pain.
it's so good to finally hear that I'm not the only one that this pain makes working out harder when cathe hard enough hahaha! like some days it doesn't hurt at all like today I had a good workout ..ya eventually I might get an mri got to see what my insurance covers.. I do all modifications on excersises for instance abs I can't do any reverse curls deadlefts I don't go down as far etc

Foxstar, are you able to lift weights again, and workout to the same capacity as before? How long was your recovery?
Any pain at all now?
maybe it's not sciatica..I was wondering now it doesn't shoot down my leg at all just a pain right above my left butt;/

It is the sciatic nerve. It started in just the glute for me as well. I continued to workout. It never really hurt during a workout so I continued with my workouts. Eventually the pain traveld down my hamstring, stopping behind my knee. Now it is in my low back, glute, and jumps to my side of my calf near the ankle. This all took a year to transpire. So please heed my warning. The glute pain is a big warning flag. I would stop deadlifts and crunches ASAP.
Try and keep a log of your pain. I write down my workouts daily. I then write down where my pain is. For me, it takes a good 24 hrs to really feel the damage I did.
Hopefully you have caught it early enough, and can make modifications where necessary.
Good luck.

It took a long time before the pain started shooting down my leg. And then it usually just happened when I stood up. It started with glute pain for me too. I thought it was coming from my hip or SI joint for the longest time.

Sciatica pain can be anywhere, it depends on how the nerve is being hit by the herniated disk. Mine would jump from my hamstring to my calf, to my glute, and sometimes it was centered in my ankle/foot. The ironic part of this was that I never had back pain, it was all in my left leg etc.

Omg foxstar! Me too! I never had back pain in the beginning. It was all right at the top left of my glute. A very concentrated pain like a Charlie horse. It wasn't until the last couple of months that my low back feels funky. I think the swelling is doing something to my SI joint. It has been a year in the making. This is what alarms me. Instead of getting better with time, I am getting worse.
The majority of my leg pain is all in the side of my calf, down by my ankle. It no longer is in the hamstring area. Very strange how it jumps.
