S.O.S..........

I need some advice on step repair. My "not even old enough to replace with a new one" step is coming up on the edges (the black mat portion) and before I use something that may ruin it trying to fix it, I thought I'd put out an S.O.S. here first.

I'm thinking super glue? Has anyone had their step start coming apart and repaired it? I'm really not trying to buy a new step already, not for a mat problem, but then again I keep thinking, "poor old step, it's endured so much impact from my weight from 350lbs til now that maybe I should let it die with some dignity!" However, pennypincher that I am, if a tube of super glue will do the trick, this old step will endure til it cracks in half! :)

Ideas, suggestions, here's what I did's............?

Thanks,
Donna

Donna-

Try a search for the homemade mini-step instructions that used to circulate around. I bet whatever adhesive is used in that process will work for you. Mine is bubbling up in the middle of the mat which so far isn't hazardous, but does make some interesting noises at times.

Good Luck.

Donna:

I have bits of duct tape covering parts of mine that want to lift off the base and they are wearing well two years later. I just step right over them, no trouble. Course, it depends on how severe your case is...

Hi Donna,

I have read that a lot of the newer steps are doing that. So it probably didn't have anything to do with you. I bought mine in '93 and it's still in fine condition (if a little dirty). Apparently the original step company sold out to someone else and blah, blah, blah!

There was a thread about it some time ago at VF, but I don't remember what anyone did to fix it. You might try a search over there too.

Good luck!

Andrea

I've had my step since around 1992, and it's fine, but if I were to try mat repair, I'd try superglue.

I am not sure, but I think I remember someone saying something once that they have a lifetime guarantee??? (or was it 10 year guarantee?) Does anyone remember this? I assume you'd have to have your receipt and I am sure after all these years, I don't have mine anymore. Just thought you might want to check into this. Good Luck Donna. We have to have our STEPS!

When I do LL, I notice that the toppers have a LOT of staples on the sides. That might be what they used. I also agree to check out the topper instructions.

I agree that the newer steps look different. I've had mine since 1991 and it was a darker blue with purple & grey risers. The newer ones are greenish with all purple risers. I saw one in the Sports Authority last week, and it comes with an "All Step" video. The old ones used to have some kind of Gin Miller tape included.

My step is also showing the same problem. I've used crazy glue to glue down the mat edges. It seemed to work fine. I got to take the time and glue down the rest of the edges. Just use a small amount of glue.

Hi Donna!
I used super glue on the edges of my matt and it worked perfectly. i thought it would only last for one step section, but it's lasted for quite awhile now. in fact, the matt isn't peeling up at all. it's worth a try since it's only about $2.00 a tube.
:)

Thanks you guys,

I've got 2 great options here, super glue and duct tape, I think I'll try the super glue first and see how it holds, and if for some reason it doesn't, I'll fall back on the duct tape. :)

Donna

p.s. I knew I should have held on to my receipt! Go figure it's long gone!
