Cathe,
It was helpful knowing that you use the Ryka Englight while working out - I was in need of a new pair. I'm also wanting a new pair of outdoor running shoes. What type of shoe to you were to run outside?
Thanks for any help you can give :)

Love to Workout!!

Hi Amy! Once I am cleared to run again I will lace up my Asics and go. These are the pair that I have enjoyed but they are a little roomy in the toe box since I have a narrow foot. Once I put my Super Feet inserts in them they are perfect for me.

Side Note: I know some people like to wear running shoes for multiple sports (which I really don't recommend) so let me just add, for anyone who is interested, that I don't feel these shoes offer the proper lateral support for lateral based activities.

Cathe - perfect!! Thank you and yes, I agree, I leave my running shoes for running. BTW I hope you have a very happy birthday - you have inspired many, many people to be fit and feel good about themselves.

Take care!!

Amy,

That was a great question. I haven't tried those type of shoes before, but I am in need of a new pair. The one thing that I might point out is to make sure you buy a pair of shoes that fit your arch. This will help determine the amount of cushion, stability and overall fit. Cathe's recommendation of the insert is a great idea. I will have to try that since I also have a narrow foot. Right now I am running with a pair of Nike's that don't provide enough cushion (Plus they are meeting their time- 5 months), so hopefully my new pair will work better. I wish you the best with shoe shopping:+

FitnessAngel,
Hey - thanks!! I was partly curious because my last pair of running shoes I purchased were Ryka, and I was a bit disappointed - they didn't give me enough cushioning. I also have a narrow foot and small heal, so I thought Ryka would be the best choice. I was hoping Cathe could point me in the right direction; to stick with Ryka or go for another brand. Nike used to be my choice, but I've gone away from them. I really want to try out the Ascics, but I'm going to try a pair on prior to purchase. The height of my arch is normal but you never know, and I also may nead inserts. I think it's awesome that we can get her opinion!!
Much luck with you fitness goals!!

I also have a small foot that is narrow. I wear Brooks running shoes and absolutely love them! They are by far the most comfortable running shoe I have ever worn, and I don't need a shoe insert for these. I highly recommend them.
Lisa :)

cathe first i did not know you ran second so you dont recommend running shoe for anything but running? :) so i gues you recomend a different shoe for step?

Lisa,

I didn't have good luck with the Brooks. It seemed to bother my knee whenever I wore them; however, they did fit my feet nicely. Then again, every brand has shoes that work for some and not for others. It may have been just the style I had. Thanks for the suggestion.

:)

Lisa - thanks for the suggestion:). It looks like I've got some shoe trying on to do:) :) - my husband will love that!!

I'm a bit late on the discussion, but the BEST way to be fitted for running shoes is at a running specialty store. I made the mistake of ordering a pair of New Balance shoes in my regular size and width (D/wide--love NB shoes, as they come in so many widths for most models), but they slipped off my right heel enough to rub my achilles area raw--they didn't fit quite the same as other NB models I have worn. Luckily the online merchant I bought from had a 90 day unconditional guarantee and I was able to return them, but from now on I will stick to being fitted locally and ordering online only if I am ordering the exact shoe later.
