Running is all about the music!

I burned some great CDs over the weekend with awesome music from the 80s and hip hop music from today! It is SWEEEEET! I hopped on that treadmill and did 6 miles again - just like the old days. I have really gotten away from the running since Cathe two years ago. What do you all think??? If I have awesome music when I workout, I am set to go!!! How important is upbeat, motivating music to you??

I am in total agreement. I couldn't believe the news report about banning iPods from the marathon. Music really motivates me and makes me move faster. I am sure it is different for a pro but it is a must for me!

I'm with you, too! Good, upbeat music is the ONLY thing that'll get me through a run... I prefer techno-like music to get me amped up.
 
I have been wanting to recommend some great wprkout music for some time now, so this is what gets me going strong on my elliptical:

Cool, Sarah. I'll look into this! Anything to get me through a run. Feels so great when you are all done with a run-like you have really accomplished something, you know?!

I like to watch DVDs while I'm on my NordicTrack but find that if I watch a musical with some great music in it my whole workout is alot more fun. (Anyone remember the old movie, Fame, with Irene Cara??) I love the music in that and have watched it a milllion times just to work out to the music. Yep, it makes a difference.
 
for me, as far as treadmill running, iTreads are great. they are incredibly motivating and always pushe me hrder than i think i can go. the music is okay but i never focus on the music in any of my workouts, it's more of a background. i just did iTread 6 outdoors 60 minutes and the time FLEW!!!
 
I love listening to upbeat music as well when I am running, time goes by faster!
But with that being said, My Ipod died half way through my run today and it was a nice change to concentrate on my breathing instead of the music... I wouldn't do it everyday though!

Not me! For me running is all about being outside, hearing the sounds of nature, listening to my breathing, and having time to pray and think and be by myself. I just prefer it that way! :)
 
That is great. I don't have the luxury of running outdoors due to my small children. I have to run on the treadmill with them napping. I understand where you are coming from though!
 
Just wanted to chime in and say I agree 100% too, esp. for treadmill workouts!!

I have specific playlists for the type of runs that I want to do.. if its going to be an interval workout, I have songs that have slow and fast tempos built in. ( Think: Freebird, Lynryd Skynyrd) If its a steady pace run, I'll have songs that fit that tempo too.

There is no way in the world I could ever do a treadmill workout without music.. it would be torture.

Ironically enough though, when I run outside, I don't wear one.. mainly for safety reasons ( I run early in the AM when its dark), but I think I like the quiet and enjoy the visual if the sun is starting to rise.

Yes, it really makes a difference with me in my workouts...from weight lifting to running on the elliptical. I think probably more so on elliptical. AC/DC seems to really get me going good. I can't have any slow songs inbetween or it messes my concentration up. Got to be hard and driven from start to finish.
