Running check in

Hi everyone!

Did you guys get a run or run/walk in this week? I got 20 miles in. Good long run on saturday (8 miles) but I got my period that morning (ugh!) so I ran much slower than usual. I was still out there though! I got a new book called Marathoning Start to Finish by Patti & Warren Finke from the famed TeamOregon running clinics. I'm following the Beginning Marathon Basebuilding program. I like the easy/hard method they use (easy day followed by hard day etc) because it really helps avoid injuries. I tend to go all out every time I run and need to allow myself easy days to recover but still run

Anyway, trying not to bore you guys... so what tapes are you doing this week? I'm back to PS after a few weeks of S/H and MIS

Happy running! :)

Marnie,
My jogging might not count as a run that is deserving of this check in, but I'll post anyway. I jogged 5 miles this week over two days.
I jogged with my dog Spotty one day for two miles. The next time I went with my sister, her boyfriend, Spotty, and my sister's dog, Oscar (who we adopted this past weekend) for the other three miles!
I can't do those long runs anymore like I used to in my track days. It makes my knees hurt. Too bad because Spotty would run forever!
Have a nice week!

Hi everyone,

Marnie - are you planning on running a marathon sometime soon? I'm just starting back with PS after 3 weeks of S/H also. I haven't done PS in a while and it is feeling good.

Cruncholi- glad you are checking in! That must be fun to run with your dog! A neighbor's dog sometimes joins me for a while and I love it.

I had a really good week last week - I got in 4 run/walks - 6 miles each. The weather was great - this was the first time since winter started that I didn't have to plan my running around the weather. In fact, it was very hard for me to choose to stay indoors when the weather was so nice, but I am afraid of overuse injuries and like the benefits of crosstraining.

I started wearing new shoes last week because I was feeling some soreness in my glute and I hate the new shoes. I went from Asics Cumulus III (cushioning shoe) to Asics 2060 (stability shoe). The 2060s felt heavy and hard and hurt my feet - what a disappointment! Oh well - I'm going to have to get used to them because I don't want to waste my money.

Another problem I am having is Easter candy - I can't stay away from the stuff! When will I learn not to buy it early???? I am on a constant sugar buzz - ugh!!

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi,
Can I join you guys? I've been running about 2x per week on my treadmill. When the weather gets nice I will go outdoors.

I have a hard time deciding how often to run vs. do other Cathe cardio tapes. What do you guys generally do? On the treadmill I usually spend about 30-40 minutes and find that I have to do intervals - change my speed every 3-4 minutes - or else I get really bored. If I go outside I can go longer at a steady pace.

I also do Cathe's strength tapes, each body part at least once per week but sometimes twice, depending on what workouts they are. For example, with S&H(which I just bought and started yesterday) I don't think I could fit in more than once per body part per week. With PS sometimes I do PS once and then MIS or Power Hour or my own weight routine to get a 2nd hit.

Today I did Interval Max (yikes is that hard) and tomorrow will be S&H Bi/Tri. I will probably run Wednesday and Friday.

Have a great week!

Erica - I totally agree with you on the asics! They've always been my favorite shoes, and I've been wearing gel cumulus the last 3 years. I tried the 2060s and they felt really heavy and bulky. But that's a stability shoe for you. I'm training for a 1/2-marathon in october and a full marathon in 2003. I ran the SF Marathon a few years ago but was not happy with my performance. I've stuck with smaller races ever since, and I've decided to go for it again!

Cruncholi (love that name) - of course you're welcome to post!! Anyone can, there are no rules!! I LOVE running with my beagle Buddy, he especially loves trail runs. So happy to hear you adopted another! Welcome and please feel free to post!

Candace - when I started increasing my mileage, I decreased the time I spent doing cathe cardio. Now I rarely do cathe cardio. I'm running 5-6x/week so I don't have time plus I can't take the impact on my ankles & knees. I do like doing Imax once in a while though. I'm doing cathe strength, rotating between S/H, PS and MIS and I like to hit one body part a week like you.

OH... YES I LOVE EASTER CANDY!!! Especially chocolate bunnies!!! :) And I know there's gonna be lots of it soon at my office!

Hi, everyone! I am running four times per week now and racing my behind off! I have 4 races between now and the 20th of April! I am doing 4 days per week which includes a long run on Sunday. I did my Sunday 10 miler in 1:31 and I was so happy. As is always the case when my mileage goes up my other workouts go down. I did a low impact Karen Voight tape yesterday, 20 minutes. I am doing PS 2 times this week. I ran 5.6 easy this moring and my pace was 9.5 so the speed is improving. I am doing one more 5 miler this week but my race is Saturday so I want to taper off. Sometimes I run more, sometimes I run less but boy, I love to run. It doesn't matter how many miles you put down or how fast you go, what makes a runner is trotting off to do it!

I just got new Mizuno running shoes. Have never worn them before and I love 'em! Been a New Balance fanfor years but my favorite one is $109.00- too much for a woman with 3 growing kids! I got two pairs for the price of one! Great shoes for my long high arched feet.

Happy Running:)
