RUNNERS May 29 Tuesday

Good Morning Cheetahs-

I did not get back to read yesterday's comments, but hope all is well with. How did all the races go this past weekend?

I managed my 6 mile hilly run yesterday and did ankle weight leg work from L&G. It was OK. Doing a shorter leg segment after running for the first time I though might be a good way to ease into legs and running on the same day. I feel fine this morning. I will walk the golf course later and do upper body and abs.

Good Morning Cheetahs!

Judy: Have fun playing golf. DH played for the firt time on saturday. He had a good time. I got a massage while he was golfing...Aaaaaah!:)

I am going to do a circuit work out so long as I get moving soon. It's quite warm here and the a/c unit in my work out room is not in the window yet.

Yesterday's run was the 40 min ITrain. I kicked it up a notch to match the speeds the instructor was calling out and therefore could not complete the entire work out. I got through about 25 minutes and just couldn't do anymore. I am happy with what I accomplished though. :)

Have a great day.

Good morning,

Wendy - great job on your workout, it won't take long and you will get through the whole thing. Setting goals is the key so you will get there, no problem.

Judy - sounds like a great workout. Hills just kill me, but are a great accomplishment when done.:)

Today I'm headed into work earlier than normal hoping to get out early.;-) We are moving my office for the summer while they do some work in the ceilings so things will be out of sorts this summer but that's not all bad. I'm looking forward to the new scenery. Oh, and the new office I will be using has a lot of windows. LOVE IT!

I'm switching things up today and using it as a rest day. I have WW tonight and weigh-in won't be pretty, but I need to get back in the swing with eating correctly so I NEED to go. I've been doing some great workouts just need to get that eating in control.

Have a great day everyone - see/talk with you soon.

~Marcia~

P.S. I looked up my 1/2 in August and it's called the GOPHER TO BADGER HALF MARATHON.

Marcia,

Thanks for the encouragement!:)

Ooooh, lots of windows is da bomb in an office but it can really interfere with one's productivity when ya start "day dreaming". }(

Best of luck training for the 1/2 girl! :)

Thanks Wendy, yeah - I will be spoiled with windows through the summer and then go back to an office where there isn't a direct one in site, ugh!!! But, I'll take advantage of it when I can :p And yes, day dreaming will be a problem, I like to do that anyway.

take care,
Marcia.

I dont have a run scheduled today but am going back to bootcamp class. I am feeling a bit better today, so we'll see how it goes.
I cant wait to get out and run though. Tomorrow morning I will give it a whirl!!!

Good morning all!

Wendy - great job! Sounds like you're really working on your speed!

Marcia - Oh have fun with the Gopher to Badger Half Marathon. What fun! And enjoy your new office. Summer is the best time to have lots of windows. In the winter when it's rainy and icky outside, you won't have to look at it and be depressed because you can't run outside.

Laura - Glad to hear you're doing better! Enjoy your bootcamp, and your run tomorrow!

Wave hello to everyone who follows...

Not quite sure what's on my agenda. My legs are fried from the run yesterday, so a run is out. I'm thinking maybe Rhythmic Step just to loosen them back up. I couldn't sleep last night - even after the long run. I'm not quite sure why - probably the three days of sleeping in - body is not used to it. It's one of those mornings when I feel like falling to the floor like a 2 year old screaming, "I don't wanna workout!" But where I know once I do, I'll feel 200 times better. So, I'll drag myself... :+

Hey there fellow cheetahs! Sounds like alot of you are getting in some great workouts despte HEAT and other setbacks.

Judy- great work on the hill run...I think hills are EVIL }(

Wendy- have a great circuit workout today, even without AC

Marcia- your Half Marathon race has an intriguing name!

Laura- So glad your feeling better and ready to start running...like a true cheetah!

Christine- You sure do have some descriptive and entertaining posts!
I love the part about feeling like a 2 yr old. What often works with me is to say "Ill just do part of it and then see how I feel...usually once I get into it I know I'll keep going.

I'm in the middle of a work stretch so today will be a rest day for me. Especially since I have to stay late for a meeting x(
Yesterday I did the Cheetah fast runnervals TM workout- 5 miles in all, VERY challenging! I managed to follow it with the Viper but I'm not sure now...I think I started to hallucinate towards the end!
Have a fantastic day everyone!

Good morning cheetah runners

Marcia...windows in an office are great!! Enjoy your rest day..

Wendy...good run yesterday at the gym!! I bet the massage was very nice...:) enjoy your circuit.

Shelly...good workout yesterday, I think I might hallucinate in the end of a long run sometimes!! Have a good restful day..:)

Mattea...the 19 miles was a bit faster than we had been running...:)..Sounds like you had a nice run Sunday too! Hope your DH's calf gets better soon...Thanks for sharing the pics!! You look great Mattea and I love the shirt...

Barb...glad you had a good run too! Good idea to check ot the course before the race...:)

Judy...nah, the fence won't be done in one day, I feel sometimes I need a cattle prod for my DH! Good workout yesterday..:)..enjoy the golf and upper body today!

Elaine..sometimes I do feel like a machine!! I have increased my mileage slowly each week and that's how I can usually keep up the miles without injury...I do think the weight lifting helps too...you did a tough workout yesterday!

Thanks Christine..:)...but really in a way I have run distance for so long that 19 for me could be about the same as say 8 or 9 for you, but you will build up your endurance..:)..I did skip Tony yesterday, I need a recovery week...I felt yesterday like you do today, my legs were fried and I didn't really want to play...

Take it easy Laura and you will be fine for the race next weekend..I know its tough when your friends are running and you can't becasue you are sick...but you will get better soon! I hope you have fun at Bootcamp...On trails 20 miles can take me anywhere from 3:30 to 4 hours...

Wow, Pamela...glad the fall didn't hurt you. I have had my share of them...and yes one right in front of my sisters neighbor as she was at a stop sign...she didn't know if she should laugh or be concerned...:)

I decided to use this as a recovery week as I am a bit drained. So I'll do a TLT workout and a 6 mile tempo run...

Have a great day..

Ok, I was so confused!!

Isn't it the 30th?? :p

I feel like SuperCarole this morning!! I went for a 4 mile run at 5:15, and then did PUB!!!

Oh, and I have another running buddy!!! Her name is Melissa & she has run 5 marathons!! She's just recovering from the Indy half marathon a couple weeks ago & will start gearing up to run a marathon in Oct so we're going to start running together during the week!!! Funny thing is that she only lives about a half mile from my house & I didn't even know her! Long story.. but anyway we met up this morning & went for a run! She had warned me before that she's a *slow* runner (my running buddy Erin told her that I'm speedy LOL) so I told her just to tell me if I was going too fast or whatever. She never runs the hills around here like I do, she goes into town to run on a walking/ biking trail (VERY flat), so she was in for a surprise!! She said that the hills were killer! (I know that, but I'm just used to it by now!) About mile 2 she wanted to take a walk break so we did & she said that she was going to get much faster from running w/ me!! ;-) Us Cheetahs!! :p We're running again tomorrow- meeting at 5AM!! This is good for me to get back into the early routine because it's been way too hot to run much later!

I feel so great getting my run & Cathe in before my kids were even up!! Hope you're all having a great day!

Hugs,

RE: Ok, I was so confused!!

Way to go Jess!!! It is a nice feeling when you can help another runner get a bit faster! It is also just nice running with someone. Good job getting in your workout so early...:)

RE: Ok, I was so confused!!

Thanks, Carole! WTG on your 19 miler y'day!! I hope to build up to that in a few mos! It sounds like you definitely deserve a break! You do some awesome workouts!!

Have a good one!

Hugs,

RE: Ok, I was so confused!!

Good Morning Cheetah's. This morning I woke up with a scratchy throat but forged ont and am pretending it's not there. Hopefully it will go away. My one dd had a scrathy throat but it never really turned into anything. I think I was just sneezed on one to many times and now I have it. I drank some oj with my oatmeal so I am now moving on. It better be gone by Sunday's 5k. Today I did a tempo run and 30 min of yoga. My tempo runs have increased from 40-45 min now to the 50 min mark. I'm pretty happy with that.

Marcia- I hope you do well at WW. It is good to go get motivated after eating. I had a bad night last night. I think my body felt this cold coming on and was craving cookies. The cookies did not help. They never do.

Laura- Hope your feeling better. Enjoy Bootcamp

Christine- Despite the troat I was a little drained this morning but I must say that after the workout I felt so much better. You will to.

Jess- I love getting the workouts in early too. It's must be fun to have a running buddy.

Carole- I told you I'd meet you for a tempo run and I did. Sounds like a good plan to recover before all of your up coming events.

Good Morning to Wendy, Judy, Shelly C and eveyone else to follow. I must now go fill the kiddie pool.

RE: Ok, I was so confused!!

Hi Karen.

My mom bought Joey a kiddie pool for his B'day. Once we get it to my house there will be many a day spent in that pool if mamma has anything to say about it!}( Joey got to go in TWO pools yesterday. First he went in his B'day gift pool at my mom's, got a quick bath and then from there we went to DH's cousin's house who has an above ground pool and, OFCOURSE, DS went "swimming" there too so when we finally got home, guess who got ANOTHER bath as well? LOL He loved it all! He really enjoys the water! I think I may have an athlete swimmer on my hands!:+ Might be wishful thinkin' but hey...ya never know right? ;) I don't care as long as he's havin' fun!:7

RE: Ok, I was so confused!!

I'm back...was done with BC by 8:30am and THANK GOODNESS! Man was it a hot work out! I had a window open with TWO fans goin' and I was dyin'!!! Not to mention that I hadn't done BC in full in AGES so it was a real challenge for me this morning! }( }( }(

Laura, Where do you take a Boot Camp class? I have seen bits on TV about a class offered in NY that actually mimics basic training in the service. Is that the kind of class that it is? They have obstacle courses and everything. It looks pretty wild.

Christine, You are sooo right! If you can just PUSH to do that work out you will almost ALWAYS feel better afterwards! I know how tough it can be when ya just don't wanna but hopefully you'll get through and feel like a million when it's over!:)

ShellyC, YIKES girl! That's one heck of a work out you got in! AC or not, I think I'd be on the floor in a puddle looong before the Viper was completed!:p GOOD JOB!

Carole, Enjoy your rest week!:+ The massage was AWESOME, btw!:)

Jess, How nice to have a running partner. I haven't had an exercise partner of ANY kind in YEARS. My best friend and I joined a few gyms together in the past but never saw it through. I never had the room to have a friend join me at home and the only person I know who works out at home is my SIL but she lives too far from me to bother.

RE: Ok, I was so confused!!

Good morning cheetahs!

Judy-I often try to do lighter weights and running the same day, then no cardio, or sometimes cross training on heavier leg days, although lately I've sometimes been letting a circuit be my "heavy" leg day.

Wendy-I think that you did a great workout on the treadmill yesterday and that you pushed yourself, but wisely. Ugh, the heat it's killer here.x( Nice job rocking BC this morning, now you can swim with Joey all day, lol!

Marcia-Windows are a must! Just remember that it's not all about the number on the scale, but about the work you've been doing, just use it as a gentle guide. I love the name of your half!

Laura-You did the right thing listening to your body yesterday, and I'm so glad that you're feeling on the mend today! What is your bootcamp class like?

Christine-When you work out on mornings like this, that's true dedication. RS is a lot of fun and once you get warmed up you'll be raring to go. High fives to your DH for running 3 miles yesterday!

ShellyC-Holy Cow bionic cheetah! I hand back the cheetah award and bow down before you}( Nice workout and well deserved rest day today.

Barb-Thanks for the compliments on the pics! They are some great memories (and some not so great ones as I am NOT a great sewer and I think I ripped more than I sewed on that tank top!)

Elaine-My screen name is something that I stole off a mailbox near my parents house, lol! It was random enough that yahoo didn't squawk at it and add more numbers so I just repeated it here. Also, I'm 24 (I'll be 25 on June 5th).

Carole-Thanks! *Blushing* I was so frustrated to get a huge size and not be able to wear one of my fave tees, so (even though I don't sew well) I fumbled through and am pretty proud of the results. I'll pass along the good wishes to DH as he HAS to be better by Sunday so he can race with me, lol! Even a slow 19 miles would have me flat and hooked up to an IV (as would your "recovery" workout), nicely done Super Carole.

Jess-That's awesome that you have another running partner and that you're challenging her to increase her own level! Hills are also unavoidable around here, and there's supposed to be one in mile 2 of my 5K this weekend, but I know the area and I feel like Crocodile Dundee saying "That's not a hill. Now this is a hill!" LOL!:D

Karen-Congrats on the time increase on your tempo runs! Whoohooo!!
Try to down as much garlic as you can as it will help tremendously. Other people will very likely avoid you (unless you follow the garlic with fresh parsley), but it's worth it to feel better. Healing vibes!

Hello to Gayle, Sarah, Amy, Kristi, Thomasina, Cathy, Karin (if you're lurking;-) , and anyone else I forgot!

Today I squeaked out a 5+ mile (I really have to get around to driving this route!) in just a hair over an hour, which I thought was more than decent considering it's mostly all uphill and it's about a billion degrees outside, lol! I've never been so WET on a run, even in the rain:eek: Tomorrow I'm going to have to get by butt out of bed with Carole and Jess to beat the heat more thoroughly!
I've got 3 running books that came in today on interloan, so I'm going to go pick those up, run to the store, come home and make my homemade "Amy's" California Burgers, and then read in front of the fan, sipping iced tea until it's cool enough to move again.
Mattea

RE: Ok, I was so confused!!

Mattea, that is just up my alley. I just came in to get some tea and am sitting outside watching the girls in the pool and reading my running books. I just got an email for other ones I have on interloan though the library. I am going to go get those tomorrow. I can't even remember what ones they are now. Great Run.

I have the last two books you said outside with me along with Running 101, and the Hal Higdon Marathon Training. The ones I have on hold ( I just looked at it) are Running Tough, Getting Real about Running, Marathon Training....something I can't remember now. I am going to put Power Eating on my list. Karen

Hello inspirational runners! I lurk religiously and have come to seek some advice.

Since March I had been training for the 10K that I did yesterday. All of my training was on gravel paths and I never once ran on asphalt. The furthest distance that I ran during training was 8 miles and never had any joint discomfort.

So, yesterday I do my 10K on asphalt and my hips hurt pretty badly right now. I am assuming it is because of the asphalt and I am not used to the impact. One thing I am embarassed to mention is that my running shoes are really old so maybe that is the problem. Is there anything that I can do to not be in so much pain after running on asphalt????

Thanks so much. You guys were inspiring me yesterday!

Karin
