Runners: Crosstrainer or running shoes

Question for those of you who run: Do you have different shoes for running than you do for doing a step tape? I am thinking about taking up running...right now I do a very fast walk with the kids in the jogging stroller and I am thinking of turning it into running...and doing it more regularly...but wondering if I need different shoes. I am using the crosstrainers I use for my Cathe videos. Is there a difference, in a nutshell?
Thanks

Jen

I keep an indoor pair of shoes for my step/hi-lo/kickboxing and strength workouts and I use running shoes for running.

You definitely want to get running shoes if you are going to be running regularly. The best thing to do is find a running store where they can find shoes that best fit your feet for the way you run.

In a nutshell, YES.

Cross-trainers help you move side to side, etc. Running shoes help you move frontwards when you run. (okay, neither shoe helps you do anything, but they help support your feet while you move.)

You need to get fitted for running shoes if you think you'll move into running. Yes there is a difference and you'll save yourself possible injuries and aching knees and feet if you make the investment - trust me you'll be glad you did! :)

i just recently got new running shoes myself. it was a speciality store that were really nice. they checked the arches of my feet, how my knees bents,my toes, and asked about any past injuries. i tried on shoes for over 45 mins. until i found THE pair that felt just like heaven. they even let me run up and down their stairs(extra workout LOL) to see how they felt when i ran. of all the shoes they had in the store the new balance's were the best. but i am just blabbing my expierence with new shoes since i want to start running. there are alot of runner's near our place and it would be nice to get to know some other fitness enthusiasts(SP?). i pretty much do the same thing for crosstrainers. i will be at a store for hours if i have to until i find a shoe with "that fit" to it.
