Now I just have to get dh up and the girls ready. Good luck to all running races today. I think it's Elanine , Laura, and Pamela. I hope I didn't forget anyone. I need Gayle's updated sheet. Have a great run today eveyone who isn't racing. See you when I get home.

Have fun at the track!! I will fill you in later, have a busy day planned after the 5K also. There's a parade, carnival, and all kinds of fun stuff going on around here for the kids too! I'll have my dh bring a camera to snap some pics!

Good morning all and GOOD LUCK to you, Karen!! I really look forward to your race report...your enthusiasm is wonderful, and you're already talking about marathons!

Sarah- it is so great to have you back! I bet you can't wait til your next race, a 5 k next weekend right? What's this about "St. George scares me?" We all thought you were fearless!!

Hey SuperCarole- what new shoes did you get? Thanks for the trailrunning tips :*

Elaine- Good luck with the 4 mile race today :7

Jess- I loved reading your posts yesterday, You sure are a dedicated runner- and you have 3 little ones too--awesome! I run with a Garmin GPS also and I love it! I never use it for races though, I prefer to run just on how I feel.

Christine- the Bay to Breakers race sounds like TOO FUN!! You sure have some interesting races to choose from in Ca! It's wonderful that you're taking the summer off and can enjoy life with your kids!

Thomasina- special cyber hugs to you sweetie!!! I just can't imagine
the trials you are enduring with your DD. I pray the counselling will
provide some help for you and the running can continue to provide you with stress relief!

Mattea- Sounds like you had a fantastic workout yesterday, way to go with conquering GS C&T! I liked your description of the racoon. I love seeing critters on my runs but here in N Arizona, my critters are alot different. I have to watch for rattlers of course, but I also encounter javelinas (wild pigs), pronghorn antelope (beautiful!)
and other interesting specimens.

Wendy- great job on the tempo run!

Hello to Laura- your story about your friend was touching...thank you for sharing!

Hi also to Wendy, Pamela., hope I didn't forget anyone- have some great workouts today! I'll be going for a 6 mile run when I get off work--can't wait- it's been a busy night- need to destress

:)

Good morning!

Today I am in a new mode. I'm reworking my training plan for the next 3 weeks before D-Day. I'm switching the long run I usually do on Sat. to Sunday since my race is Sunday. Also, I need an extra day here to keep rehabbing the hip.

Did SJP the step portion and High-Lo portion -- felt good to move my joints -- and did floor work on PLB & GSL & abs from SJP. It was fun to pull out a step tape and feel lighthearted.

Karen & Jess & Elaine-- sending you good luck and good vibes today.

Thomasina-- I hope the counselor can help bring some calm to the situation with DD. Meanwhile, I'm sending you lots of postive thoughts. It's painful to have things "not right" with a child. Keep hanging in there and doing the best you can.

Sarah- have fun doing your workout. What race are you doing next?

Shelly-Have a great run. Destressing first sounds very balanced.

SuperCarole -- how are the shoes? Spill...details.

Laura -- good luck on your half tomorrow -- (I think it's tomorrow, not today?) You will do great!!

Mattea- Your comment about the slideboard reminded me that I'm supposed to be having fun here -- so I thought of you as I was bouncing around the step today with SJP.

Christine -- did some planks today thinking of you. Thanks for the support on the pikes. I need that reminder to not forget about my core.

Wendy-- I can definitely tell that your baby is a real social star! He looks so happy and engaging. It's great you are enjoying him! My kids are 9 and 12, but I still see the happy babies they were when they are talking about "preteen" stuff now.

Hi to everyone who will check in later. I have a busy day ahead.
I hope all the racers do great and feel good about their runs!!

-Barb
:) :) :)

Good morning runners

So am I to understand reading yesterdays thread...one of you nice enabling runners is going to talk Cathe into running a marathon with us???

Tomasina...lots of hugs coming your way. I do think the counseling could be very helpful. I do hope things work out. I am glad your other kids are supportive...:)...and yes, I do run in a hat...when its raining....:)

Karen...Have a GREAT race today....we will all be pulling for you!

So nice to see you Sarah...:)...have fun with those repeats.

Good Luck to you Jess! I bet you will kick butt...:)

Shelly..I got Reeboks. Here is a pic: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7142192/c/22967.html I run in either mens or womens but I find the size 8-8.5 in womens goes fast and a men's 7 fits my kinda wide feet well...:)...

Barb...good idea, I feel the same about running long on Sundays when an upcoming long race is Sunday. I am happy SJP felt good for you yesterday...That is a fun workout.

The new shoes felt so GOOD!!!! I had a very nice easy 6 mile run. Today is a Leg & Glute/KPC premix. And guess what?....we have rain!....I hope it kills all the pollen!

Can't wait to hear all the race reports....:)

Morning, everyone! I think it's funny that the only days I seem to be over here are the days I'm NOT scheduled for a run, LOL.

Ran a nice 3.5 miles with my dad at an evening bootcamp last night, it was misting but not too muddy or anything. We were on Stanford campus, running around a lake up there, and there were these little teeny FROGS or toads and they were the cutest things I've seen in a long time! The biggest ones were less than an inch long, when sitting, maybe 2 inches jumping. TOO CUTE. And of course they blended in with the mud, so you had to be careful!!!

Christine missed my favorite Bay to Breakers runners in her nearly perfect description... there is a team of about 6 people who run every year dressed as salmon... and they swim upstream... aka run the whole thing backwards! It's so fun. BUT, it's a pain in the behind to get up there and the crowds and all that, so I'm sticking with a more local run tomorrow and doing a 10k that starts from the park we do bootcamp in every morning. :) One of my bootcampers will be manning the pancake breakfast, and I think 3 of my bootcampers will be running the course, which is either a 5k or 10k. Fun!!!

I'll be taking tyleonol, of course, as my foot is doing okay but it just hasn't been able to heal since I step on it *every time* I put my right foot down! It is looking much much better... but it's still a raw hole. :(

I must admit, I'm glad I'm not running this morning. I'm doing some yoga and then eating as much as possible!! LOL

Hope everyone is having a great time out there!!!

hello everyone,

my bag is packed and my brother and SIL will be picking me up around noon.

sarah the half is in cleveland. the cleveland rite aide marathon.
starts at 7am, I think. I am starting to get a little nervous. I will be thinking of all of you on the forum and will keep sarahs words that she told herself during her race in my head.

I am feeling a little guilty, my youngest boy hasnt been feeling the best. I feel I shouldnt be leaving him . He has a virus, and he feels like himself most of the time but he spikes a fever on and off throughout the day. he is on meds, i took him to the doctor yesterday and my mom is going to keep my kids overnight. she is a nurse but you know how us moms get. I feel like a good mom wouldnt go do something for herself and leave her baby when he isnt feeling the best. I wont be but and hr away but I am feeling very guilty. I got up early this morning and him and me went to the store together ,just so I had some extra time with just him.

anyway thanks to all of you for the support.

Best of luck to all of the racers!!!!

Laura, Your son will be in great hands which I'm sure you know and it is okay that you are doing this. Don't feel guilty. Easier said than done, I know!;) Go get 'em tomorrow, girl!:)

So I went out last night and picked up a copy of A Woman's Guide To Running. I started reading it last night and it seems as though it will be a very helpful purchase. It covers just about everything you can imagine in regards to running for women! I think I will learn alot from it. :) I also purchased a couple of light reads for fun and started to read one of them last night as well. DS was ofcourse flirting with everyone in Barnes and Noble while we were there!:D

Today will be a Slim Series work out...not sure which one yet. I actually need to get a move on if I am going to do this! I don't have much time to spare today!

Have a great day ladies....I should be back later on to catch up on the day's posts!:)

*Pops in quickly to wish ALL the racers a wonderful race* DH is home!!! Did a 6 mile run this morning, got the house cleaned up before and got home to find out that I had to take a QUICK shower as the plane was early! I'm so happy...

Barb - keep up the great core work! You're running will improve! I know it will!

*Rushes back out to be with DH*

Hi there, back again and realized I forgot to say Hi to Barb and Amy!
Barb, sounds like you had a great step workout- I'll have to dust off SJP, you inspired me!
Amy- I didn't realize you were racing this weekend too! How terrific... your 10K sounds like lots of fun....PANCAKES...I always love to chow on them after a race:D
Laura- In addition to being a great runner you are also one fine MOM!
I'm an RN and I can assure you (for whatever it's worth) you have done all you can for your son, please enjoy your race and TRY not to feel guilty.
Carole- those Reeboks look WAY cool. I'll be needing some new road shoes in a couple of months so I'm going to check those out.
Time to go shopping- Later today is LOMAX INTENSIFIED:eek:

ShellyC

Karen, Jess, Laura, and Amy GOOD LUCK!!!!! Can't wait to hear back on how things go, although I know Laura's results will take awhile as she has some traveling to do. I hope each and every one of you kicks some butt, runs powerful, and comes back with a story for us;-)

Barb-Sounds like you've made smart choices in your training and you're right, as Sarah said earlier, if you're not having fun then what's the point. I love horse racing and it always brings tears to my eyes because the animals are so beautiful, but also because when they run it looks natural, it looks right, it looks like big fun! (**Disclaimer, I am in no way insinuating that anyone here looks like a horse:p )

ShellyC-Wow, okay, so now I feel like a wimp for thinking that the racoon might have rabid and not just high on Hershey's}(

Carole-So glad your new shoes are working out for you, that reminds me that I'm getting to about the same "need to replace" place. And admit it, you'd HELP us convince Cathe in a heartbeat, you..., ahem, enabler. Look at what you've done to Gayle, and Karen, and me!

Sarah-Have fun on your 400's hope it feels great. I had no idea running a marathon required so much work AFTER the 26 miles we done!

Wendy-I also interloaned a the running books recommended here and can't wait to read them, especially now that I have, what's that? SUMMERTIME!!

Christine-Have a great time catching up on time with DH!!!

Hi to Thomasina, Pamela, Marcia, and Elaine!

I was all set to go for the long run with DH today, but as we started out I got a hint of a side stitch, so I took the warm up slow (my legs felt a little like lead after Imax Extreme yesterday)and paced the first mile at about 10:00, then the next 2 miles are all uphill and the stitch disappeared. At about the 3.25 mile mark we headed downhill and about 30 seconds later I was in so much pain I had to stop and walk. Well, long, tearful story short I stopped and started about 10 times, but to no avail. Each time I developed stabbing pains and just kept getting more frustratedx( So glad DH was with me though, not just for moral support and to dry the tears, but to turn the walk back into some great personal time together and cheer me up. I am so lucky! He even made waffles for me when we got back for a late breakfast early lunch:9 Then we headed out to a local park that we wanted to explore (drove there), but hiked over 5 miles on muddy trails, through creeks and ravines, and finally headed back about 1 and a half hours later. I have no idea what happened I didn't change anything about my routine, but now I have a sore right side:( Any suggestions as to what might have gone wrong would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping that my side cramp today was me absorbing the "bad" things for the racers this weekend! I'm happy to take one for the team;-)
Mattea

Hi everyone. I'm back. It was so nice to come home to all the well wishes today. It makes you feel so love and supported.

Welllllll. I did FAN FREAKIN TASTIC. I can't tell you how awesome I feel. My time was 24:38 and I came in first in my age group. How is that for progress. My first 5k was 25:57 and I came in 5th in the age group. Grant it there are better times then mine but not today in my age group. The best thing was when the girls and dh heard my name. We all looked at one another and said. What!!! Did they just call you. I was like Yeah I think they did. I am so happy with my time improvement. These past two weeks I have really focused on my speed work and it paid off. I mean that is like a minute and a half shaved off of that. I must have looked like a nut coming in the chute because I saw the time and I almost fainted at how much better it was then the last.

Other than all the fantastic things that happend with me today. The best part came at the end when this women came over to me and said, " Nice race, I couldn't keep up with you". We were about the same age. I told her a million time how I appreciated what she just said to me. I mean those words made my day. The weather was fantastic and the views that the race took me on were lovely. Right along the water. I'm thinking of doing another one in two weeks. I hope all your races went well today. Elaine, Jess Laura, Amy. I can't wait to here about them. Everyone else thanks for the lovely thoughts while I was out today. Man I love you girls.

Ok, I'm back from the 5K!! It's been such a busy day we went from the race to the parade, home to shower, & off to a cookout!!

Anyway, short details. Time: 24:02, avg pace 7:39. Mile 1 ~ 7:48, Mile 2 ~ 7:00 (my fastest mile yet!), mile 3 ~ 8:05, last .16 (according to my Garmin) ~ 7:43. My last PR was 24:26 so I'm happy to beat that!!! :)

Longer details ~ didn't sleep well last night & woke up w/ a scratchy throat & allergies. My good friend that I run w/ Erin picked me up & then we picked up my good friend Michele's dh Justin to head into the local race. It was just a small thing, about 50 people or so. It was fun & we just hung out chatting w/ everyone, got signed up, etc. I should have had more water to drink was we were waiting, but I had left my water bottle in Erin's car. It was warming up by 8:15 & felt pretty good. So off we started & Justin was ahead of us. Erin told me to go on ahead of her & so I did. Just kinda getting through the people & finding a good pace. My goal was to stay under 7:45 pace so I beat that by just a little bit!! I still can't believe my 2nd mile was a 7 min mile!!! By the 3rd mile I was feeling the allergies & super scratchy throat plus a couple big hills so I must have slowed down a bit. Then I knew were getting closer so I sped up to the finish. I ended up coming in 1st in my age group & got a medal. ;-) Finished at 24:02, my friend Erin finished not too far behind me at 24:30 & Justin was ahead of us at 22:16. My dh & girls were waiting at the finish line for us, it was great to have a cheering section!!

Anyway, it was fun & now I have another month til my next 5K to improve my time some more!! I need to fit in my speed work, but that can be hard since lately I've been pushing my dd in the jogger to do speed work!

It's been a fun day & now I'm ready to relax!! Thanks for reading & for the wonderful support here already!! You ladies are great!

Karen- you did great!!! We both did awesome & both got 1st in our age groups!! WTG!!! You've really done great at improving your time too!! I really need to do more speed work too, it really does help improve your times!! My buddy Erin said that I made her go much faster too, she said she was trying to keep up w/ me!!

I hope you feel great!

OMG!!!!!!!!!! Karen & Jess both getting 1st in their age groups!!!!

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_125.gif[/img] You 2 completely ROCK!!!! My happy dance for you...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/r/bigdance2.gif[/img]

Karen, that was so cool that other woman came up to you and talked. What a very nice feeling for you...:)

Jess...wow!! a 7 min mile in there!!! I think I did some of those a few years ago...:)...I have to say maybe pushing your DD is really helping...one speedwork a week if you can would for sure help...

That is so awesome you both bettered your times....such a great inspiration to ALL of us...:)

Shelly...have fun shopping and with Lowmax.

Mattea..of course I would help convince Cathe with the rest of you....enablers...}( I am sorry about the stitch! That is really sucky, I am glad your DH was there for you. The only thing I feel about side stiches is it can be a breathing problem, like too short of breaths in the beginning of a run. I posted a site for Christine awhile back, I'll go look for it. I know you will feel better tomorrow. I bet the hike was really fun...:)

I did the Kickmax kicking & punching drills and L&G ankle weight section. Nice workout for me. I'll be doing a long run tomorrow, but at least not in the dark...:)

Oh I love the happy dancing smilies. I had to show my girls how cute they were. I can't tell you how much I look forward to your posts Carole and your wisdom in running. See what happens to runners when you get good advice and support from fantastic women.
