Runner's Check-in Sat 4-22

Good morning runners

Laura...yes running is my main cardio. I do lift weights everyday I am doing a modified P90X rotation right now. I think doing your upper body heavy twice a week is good. Stick to that for 6 weeks and then change things up. It just takes some time but persistence will get you there!!

Thanks Mattea...it really felt good to get in that mileage. I think with the tempo HR thing, it just takes time. I have a hilly running area too and sometimes it can be tough to keep my HR up as I go downhill...:)...I did Bryan's sweat Power Yoga on thurs....I think it made me sore! }( :)

No run today. I am trying TLT's Better Burn Better Buns for the first time. Should be fun...

Have a good day...:)

Hi runners! I'm not running regularly these days (I have no time, I swear), but today I'm headed to a 4 mile loop with my mom. It will be a run/walk for her, so a very slow jog for me. It will be a little miserable on that end, but whatever. :)

I'm off to do an Imax premix in place of Plyo X this morning. I don't know why, really, but I just miss the Imax thing... :p

AFTER MY MORNING WORKOUT, though, is the exciting event of my day!!!! Road Runner Sports is opening a *store* about 2 miles from my house!!! Their grand opening is today and I'm going to the VIP "party". I'm super excited!!! DH is going with me just to be a nice guy. It should be fun! I'm curious to hear what shoe they recommend for me...

Have a great day, everyone!

Morning everyone! I did a 6 mile this morning which felt great. Next weekend is my 1/2 marathon, so we decided to cut back today and for the rest of the week. I'm so looking forward to going, I just hope I do well (ie-finish!).

Our group is thinking about training for a full marathon in Feb., (I'm waiting to see how I do on the 1/2) and I'm wondering if anyone has any training recommendations. I looked at the Hal Higdon & Jeff Galloway training schedules online, but I'm wondering which is better. Several of us are beginners and we are not sure where to start. I know several of you have run marathons before so I know you would have some good advice. :)

Have a great day everyone!

Have fun, Marsha!!! I really enjoyed my half. Are you aware that you will not likely feel like running for about 2 weeks after it? I just want to make sure you don't make any rash marathon decisions while you're still recovering from your half!! :p

Hi everyone,
Well I ran a 5k today and thought I'd beat my PR (which was on this course last year). It didn't happen....I had a really strong start and hit the 1 mile point in about 7:30 (which is fast for me, lol!) and then about a quarter mile from there I got a cramp in my right glute! We were running on uneven wet lawn and I got really worried and slowed down not wanting an injury a week out from the marathon. I ended up coming in 2 seconds slower than last year for a 26:06 finish. Now I just gotta take it easy for the rest of the week and hope today's problem was a fluke! ;(

Carole, you have great definition (I've been looking through your picture trail ;)). What do your weekly workouts look like? Do you follow an eating program?

Judy, have fun meeting the other Catheites this weekend! Sounds like you'll be having some fun. :)

Amy, I wish we had a Road Runners Sports close here. You'll have to tell us how it goes and what they offer.

Marsha, here's a link to the book I used this time around. It's a really basic book but the schedules are VERY do-able. The two main runs are the Wednesday speed drills (which turn into tempo runs the second half) and the long runs. The rest of the week is filled with two easy runs and some cross training.

Kathy,
26:06 is a great time. like my running friend tells me when I am hard on myself, think of the people who cant even accomplish what you just did. Your a winner just for doing what you do!!! I am with you on wanting more definition like carole but its a slow progress for me. Some people can get sculpted easier than others and I guess I am not one of them.

I plan on running just 3-4miles today .Today is my easy day. Have a nice day everyone!!!

Hello,

I've had a busy few days at work so haven't had much time to check in. I ran five miles on Tuesday and Thursday, and last night I did Kick Max and Muscle Endurance upper body split.

I'm happiest to report, though, that I just finished my last training run before my half-marathon, which is on May 6. I'm running in an 8k next weekend, so unless I'm feeling super-motivated next Sunday, I'm considering today's run my last long one till after the event. I did 10 miles. All of my friends who have run half-marathons have assured me that that distance is far enough for training, because there will be so much energy and adrenaline the day of the event that the extra three won't be so bad. Either way, I'm pretty proud of myself for finishing those miles. I sure am sore now though! And I'm supposed to have practice later for my co-ed softball team... I think I'll still feel like jelly though.

Have a great weekend!

Ellen

Amy...that is so cool about Road Runner opening near you!!! I have ordered from them for years...:)

Marsha...yes take it easy this week. I bet you will for sure finish your half!! I would suggest checking out these sites for beginning programs too www.runnersworld.com and www.coolrunning.com If you want to email me I can tell you how I trained for my 1st marathon...:)..as it is too long to list here.

Awe Kathy...2 seconds isn't bad at all, it shows consistency! Glute pain...maybe some extra stretching can help? Thank you for your compliments...:) I follow a Vegan way of eating and a typical workout week looks like this for me:
Sun: Long run 16-20 miles
Mon: GS Tris, Chest and Shoulders, abs, 3 or 4 mile run and sometimes Pilates in the afternoon
Tues: GS standing Legwork, Tempo run 6 miles
Wed: GS Back & Biceps, abs 6 or 7 mile run
Thurs: Legwork, 5 or 6 mile interval run, Yoga
Fri: PUB Back, abs, 4 mile run
Sat: Floor legwork, Kickboxing or a TLT workout

Ellen...sounds like you have trained very well. I hope you do great in your half...:)

Off to workout...enjoy the day...:)

Carole – how was BBBB?

Judy and Laura – how were your runs?

Amy – how was your run/walk, imax premix, and RRS?

Marsha – great job on 6 mile run

Kathy – sorry that you didn’t beat your PR (though I still think you did amazing), but running on wet grass is scary and it is good that you slowed down to not injure yourself

Ellen – the half marathon is coming up soon, are you excited?

Today I did 6.2 miles in 70 min and it was HARD! I really had to talk myself through this run ladies. I think one of the problems was that I am getting over a head cold and taking some meds that I think dehydrated me a bit. Also, I started later than usual and it was HOT. Yuck, I have to get my butt out of bed earlier on Saturdays now. Oh also I did SM #3 after the run because I need to stretch more.

Tomorrow is my 5K and I hoping I didn’t work too hard today to go hard tomorrow. I’ll report back with what happens tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great day. I need to eat.

Karin

I'm back to report on the RRS opening... I was really disappointed! I think the "crowds" really got to me for some reason. They had a lot of volunteers who I didn't think really were there for anything but their free t-shirt. Everyone who was associated with RRS seemed to be more focused on the opening than on the customers. I guess I should have expected that!! But I didn't. Every line I got into, someone else ended up cutting in front of me! It was just bizarre. I mean, I'm short, but I'm not INVISIBLE!!! My DH said he should have stayed next to me the whole time, LOL. He's 6'2" and built like a lot of the men in the store today.

Anyway, I went and will go back on Friday when I'm over in that direction and hopefully get a chance to check out their Gait Analysis machine. You walk across it, the computer says where you put your weight, etc, they look at your old shoes, and make a recommendation. We'll see. They did have 2 treadmills set up so that you could run in the new shoes to try them out! I thought that was cool.

I did receive a free duffel bag for registering as a VIP member before I got there. It had 4 pairs of socks, a hat, a RRS goo, and some jelly belly sports beans. Not bad for a Saturday morning! :p I'm not going to judge the store by their opening day. They better shape up by Friday, though!! LOL.

It was cool to see the Windstopper tights in person-- I wish I had a reason to buy those!!! They are NICE. Hmm. Maybe I should get them just in case?? LOL, we'll see what's in clearance at their online store...

Hi Ladies! 12.5 miles this a.m. with the training group! Another great run! Yesterday my internet was screwed up so I couldn't check-in...did elliptical and weights...HSTA abs instead of cardio.

14 more days until the marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies sorry this is so late, but today has been a rainy, rainy, rainy (thanks Calirainians!}( ) day, filled with chores, oil change, shopping, ugh, there are such better way to fill a Saturday!

I did a shorter but more intense cardio day based on one that Cathe put together for the Feb. 2006 rotation. Imax2 WU 1-3, Imax 3 4-7, and the cardio only from HSC. This was a lot of fun! I like breaking up workouts like this b/c it keeps me paying attention as the normal "arc" of the workout isn't there and there's no room to daydream;)

Carole-I know what you mean about the downhill, especially near the end I was almost having to sprint to get the HR to where it should be. I guess maybe I should have pushed a little harder during the 10 min. warm-up so my base HR was higher?

Judy-I'm so excited for you Rochester ladies today. I know you're going to have an awesome time and I can't wait to hear about it. I do wish that you'd opted for Corning though, that way I could have joined you:7

Amy-I've been missing you on the running check-in, but I'm also in grad school, and teaching at the same time, so busy I can appreciate. I am so jealous of your running store! We have nothing, nothing...x( Just Dick's, which is pretty worthless so I have to get pretty much everything online somewhere. Freebies are always a nice score=-)

Marsha-Good luck on the half! I know, when I do a mileage I've never done before, just finishing is the goal!

Kathy-Awesome job on the 5K! That is a great time and 7:30 is just plain "fast" in my opinion.

Ellen-Good luck on the half! My DH and I will begin training late summer for one in the early fall, and I'm already feeling the adreniline from nerves, lol.

Karin-I recently found out that even a little dehydration spells big trouble for me, so I'm impressed that you mangaged to fight through it, especially after coming off of a cold-Great luck on the 5K! Try to get some extra sleep!

"Sarah and Elaine 2008" Just a short run of 34 miles today, afterall tomorrow is a 50 miler, then next week we meet Carole for an ultramarathon...:p You guys ROCK!

Karin my run today wasnt the best either. I only ran 3miles and it was around 1:30p.m. and we ate junk food (Mcdonalds) about an hour and a half earlier. I should have nknown better. If I eat something heavy like that my stomach feels very full and heavy during my runs. Anyway that is all I did today, I had to work earlier and my son had two soccer games also.

Sarah, I tried that enduroxr4 drink the other day and it did help with muscle soreness. thanks for recommending it. It has a little after taste but definatelyis tolerable. I had to get he fruit punch since that is all our gnc had.

sounds like everyone had a decent run otherwise. It was a nice day, hope you all have a nice weekend.
