Good morning fit runners

Kathy...those taper weeks can be tough, but you will benefit from them. Is your glute feeling better today? Thanks, I have been Vegan for about 2 years...:)

Laura, yes running the 14 miles should be fine 2 weeks before the half . Are you following a program?...

I am a bit sore from the run yesterday. I was trying these new socks that I had worn during the week , but I think not a smart idea with my trail shoes as my toes got sore yesterday...:(..I know the will be fin...Today I am doing GS Chest, Tris, shoulders abs and a 4 mile run.

Have a great day...:)

Carole- the picture of the lake was very pretty. But 19 miles? Oh my goodness! You are SO VERY inspiring !

Today was a 6 mile run in the rain. I guess it is my turn to have the rain. I put my Ipod in a ziploc bag and cut slits in it for the arm band. It worked. My running friends both didn't feel well, so I set out on my own.

ETA- Hi Elaine! We posted simultaneously!

Good Morning Carole, You would think that us Pacific time zone women would be the last to check in! Hope your toes are feeling better today and that your 4 mile run feels great.

This morning I'm going to do GS Chest and Tris (no shoulders) and try out Cardio Coach 5 on my elliptical this afternoon.

Good morning to Judy too who was posting at the same time as me. And the same to everyone who comes later!

Judy, I dislike running in the rain and will usually do something other than running if it is raining. But, until this spring, it hardly ever rains where I live. Maybe it's something I need to get used to since there is more it in the forecast for this week.;( I think it's messing up the strawberries!:-( :(

Carole, hope the toes feel better! It's amazing what a little change can do to a long run.

Judy, ugh....squishy run, ick...lol! Sounds like you did great in protecting your iPod, though.

Elaine, don't you just love Cardio Coach Volume 5? It's my favorite so far. I just got Sean's version of Volume 6 this weekend and listened to it while I was washing dishes....so lame, lol! I'm longing to give it a try tomorrow, I'll just scale it back alot and enjoy it as an "easy" workout.

My glute is feeling pretty good so today I did: WAP for Abs 3 Mile Walk + Cathe Gym Style Biceps/Triceps + 1st section of Cathe Total Body Stretching.

Hope everyone else is having a great day.

Kathy

Good morning runners! Today I did some speed work 6 1/2 mile intervals, total about 5 miles. I also did gym style today- many of us seem to be on the same wave length here. I did the Chest-Triceps workout....gotta love those drop sets of pushups!
Carole- I'm trying to decide now between 2 pairs of trail shoes
It's between the Asics Trabuco or the Montrail "Continental divide"
(the reviews of this intrigued me)
I'm off now to enjoy the rest of the day shopping with my DH.
Have a good one y'all.

I did a 75 min run today outside.I was so happy to get out and do it! The only thing that ticked me a little was DH's Ipod...I had never used it before so I had no clue how to turn the volume up.Everything on that thing is so touchy! I think its meant to be in your pocket, where is was, until it got so warm that I had to take my coat off.

Lori:)

*sneaks into thread, and waits patiently to be noticed* Ah, ladies, can I join? Now that Hard Core Carole has recruited me to run a marathon (a marathon? The longest I've run is 7.2 miles!) with her in April, I guess I should be held accountable for my running. I have some interval training slated for today as it's icky out and I cannot just run on a treadmill.

Good afternoon runners!
Carole-After that run yesterday I'm glad that only your toes hurt, I would be hobbling from bed to chair, from chair to shower, and back to bed, lol! Long runs always leave me with sore toes too, and then I always manage to hit my toes on everything for the next two daysx(

Shelly-Nice run, sounds like quite a workout! And yes, drop set of push-ups...I can do them all on my toes, but only if I take longer breaks between 12 and 10 and usually 10 and 8. Where's honeybunch when you need her?

Judy-So long as it's not pouring I don't mind a run in the rain, so long as I have a hat on, I hate it when the rain touches my face-just did one yesterday actually. My mp3 came with its own plastic case for armband attachment, but I applaud your ingenuity!

Kathy-I'm glad your glute is feeling better! Can I recommend peanut oil again without sounding like a broken record?

Lori-75 min is great! I love my mp3 (no Ipod here, too touchy, you're right). It came with an armband which I love, except that it does leave one with an interesting tan line!

Today was Lomax plus the step from SJP for me, it looked like it was going to all our pour this morning. I awoke to sunshine and blueskies after a night of thunderstorms, only to have it go blech about 30 min. after I woke up;(
Mattea

Kathy, I have never tried Cardio Coach so today will be my first. I bought it and #2. Do you have and like #2 as much as 5?

Christine, which marathon did Carole convince you to train for and run in April? Maybe I'll join you guys!

Oh, absolutely! Join us! We're planning for the Big Sur Marathon - dubbed the most beautiful in the world! It's also a tough one *shakes in shoes*, but it would be worth the pain...

Oh......Big Sur......Hills.....Big hills!! Maybe I will! One of DH's friends from college is running that this weekend then will come down here for a couple of days. I'll see what kind of shape he is in before I commit! I ran SF and it was so hilly that I would never purposely seek another one of those out again! But doing it with fellow Catheites is motivating......

Good morning runners! (still am here in PST )

Sounds like great workouts today, folks! As usual, YOU ALL inspire me! I didn’t check-in over the weekend (real busy) but I did get in some running and upper body and pilates. And I ordered a new yoga dvd because I don’t like the ones I have!

I did go back and look at Carole’s lake photo. Beautiful place to run a long run, although I agree with Elaine that I would be too worried about the mountain lions and bears to enjoy my run! I live in the same type of environment here in northern Cali, but only run the trails with other people, but I’m even nervous then!!

Christine – OF COURSE you are welcome here! Wow, Big Sur….now you guys are getting me interested!

Is anyone doing the Wine Country Half Marathon in Sonoma in July???

Thomasina

Hey girls.

Went to the gym today to do an upper body work out on the weight machines and ended up running 1.5 miles too. (w/no breaks! YEAH!):7 }( :+

Welcome Christine! When is the marathon? I'm sure you will do great.

Today is a much needed rest day for me. However since I did not check-in yesterday I guess I will post what I did. It was my longest run to date, 7 miles. Surprisingly it felt great even though I think I need some new running shoes. My legs feel sore for a few days afterwards, even after short runs. I just need to break down and go to a running store to get fitted for a pair. I'm sure I will pay too much but at least I will get the proper shoes for my feet. What shoes do you prefer?

Carol - The picture of the lake looks beautiful. I wish I had some place picturesque like that to do my runs.

Thanks Judy..the lake was really nice yesterday...but 19.3 miles did wear this girl out...:)..Way to go running in the rain by yourself....I see a runner being created...:)

Elaine...us west coasters must be early risers!! Please join us next year in Big Sur....the worst hill is at 13 miles....luckily for me it was not windy the year I ran it...:)

Kathy...luckily my toes did much better in my pavement shoes...:)

Shelly...your DH shops???? I'd say pick which ever shoe fits the best and feels the best, you could try running around the store in them...:)

Good run Lori....

Oh My heavens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Christine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...hey....love to see you checking in here!!!!!! Please join and we will talk about Big Sur...:)

Okay Mattea....yeah my quads and hams are a bit sore too...:)..You got in an awesome workout...:)

Just think Tomasina....it is a year away....:)...I would never run these long trail runs by myself. Yesterday we did see other runners, and the other lake is usually over run with Montain Bikers...so most of the wild animals hide...:)..That half sounds nice but I'll be doing my 50K the 15th of July...

Good job Wendy!!!

Thanks Kristi....I do love the lake runs. I run in stability shoes and right now I prefer Reeboks for pavements runs. Great job on the 7 miles...:)

http://www.bsim.org/images/rotate003.jpg Big Sur looks cool....:)

I did my 4 miles very slow....toes are for sure better today...:)

Mattea, Ugh..the thing at me drove crazy! LOL I have 2 MP3 players, one I can't find, and the other one isn't working right.I asked DH to put some new songs on it for me and he mostly had the Black Eyed Peas on there, and I am not a huge fan.SO I took it all off myself but when I go to put something else on there, it says "upgrader".
I also have a radio that as a arm band. When running in the summer time I would have to switch arms 1/2 way through so that my tan wouldn't look to horrible...God forbid people should draw their attention from my sock tan!:7
Lori:)

Awe shucks, Carole...why'd ya have to go post that beautiful picture of Big Sur!! Now I'll be REALLY looking into this one! Oh boy, is my DH ever gonna kill me now!! LOL! :7

Thomasina

I think I can handle a hill at mile 13! If the Big Sur chatter picks up around here I might not be able to resist signing up.

And Thomasina, the Wine Country Half in July will likely fit in nicely with my fall marathon training!

I've seen the pictures of Big Sur - wanted to do the 10k this year, but they filled up so quickly. The marathon slots were still available, but I wasn't sure I could complete the 26.2 miles in under 6 hours - as they require, so we decided next year. DH will go, but he'll probably do the 10k with our friends. He'll be in heaven surrounded by all of us! :)

The sky around here is overcast, but there's no wind. So, I went out and did a steady run by the Bay. I did 3 miles (the path is a total of 4 - 2 each way - but I didn't want to go too crazy my first run in several months). Saw a heron and lots of Sand Pipers. Nice run. You ladies have me stoked. I REALLY want to do the 1/2 in Napa - but I'm not sure I can pull a 1/2 in that time frame. I could do a 10k pretty easily, but a 1/2 is pushing it...

I LOVE that so many here are Californians!
