Good morning runners,
Sorry I missed checking in yesterday. It was a busy day-- did a 5 mile recovery run, slideboard, abs and MM legs -- but then the day got away from me. My older kid has a month-long sex ed. unit. (don't ask) and the afterschool conversation requires my focus. His teacher is not that great and there are some amusing things. Such as this: (Do not read on if you may be offended.....I hope this doesn't offend anyone.)
His teacher said this: "When a man has multiple partners, you could call him a Play-uh or a Stud....when a woman has multiple partners, we call that being a ho'...." So I am not making this up and find it both laughable, but irritating that a teacher is bringing slang into this whole discussion -- which got kinda' weird. My kid is fine with it all and thinks the teacher is a little looney, so I'm not going to make a big thing of it. Today's topic, he told me, is "the male anatomy," so I am drinking a lot of water today and herbal tea to prepare for the after school discussion.
I hope this makes the jog strolling moms think this: every phase has it's hard parts and easy parts. Enjoy the simple conversation you have while you are exhausted, can't get enough sleep and feel like a workhorse -- because you are working very hard. But there is a lot to enjoy with the hard work at every phase.
For instance, the simple conversation is the up side of the younger crew. (So my kid says: "Mom, I shouldn't say to the teacher today when she talks about testicles something like ' uh, oh, how many of those did you say a guy should have? ' " :+
Right honey, don't say that, because you have a great sense of humor, you are getting the big picture, I'm keeping an eye on this teacher, but stay focused, don't joke about testicles in school today because I don't want a call from the principal ....
But I digress....Today it's a rest day for running/Did upper body weights, a mish-mosh of double sets of MM, some triceps from GS and warmed up with some of the compound weight exercises from CW. It was fun.
Wendy-- sorry about that neck & shoulder pain. Maybe Shelly, who is a nurse, I think would have some advice. I try to not take Motrin/Advil right before a workout to keep a grasp on how badly I hurt. Also, sometmes, I'll start out, give myself that 2 mile test and if I don't feel better, make another cardio choice. Lack of sleep catches up with us all. It's important to be rested! I'm excited that you will be getting outside to run. I saved the running shoes I bought when I used to run and push my kids in the jog stroller. They were Saucony Grid Hurricanes -- I needed all the support I could get!
Carole -- that massage sounds great. How fantastic that you got it and that you got a free-bee. I love all your new smileys!!!
Gayle -- I can't wait to see your new training plan. Please post it. I love reading about running, et. al and definitely think it's funner than school, but has the same good organized feeling I got in school, especially at the beginning of a semester. Where are those pretty colored highlighters??
Shelly- how was the interval run? Did you do Kickbox drills after the run or kickbox-cardio? I bought some Turbo Jam Advanced tapes a month ago and like them for cardio and drills-- but they are different than Cathe kickbox. I'm trying to figure out how to work them in. I really like the core work mixed into all kickboxing.
Elaine-- Glad to know you resolved your heroin addiction in under 24 hours! My gosh, what a funny story. I had always heard that about poppyseed muffins, but I never knew anyone this happened to.
Thomasina--Glad you are feeling better and looking forward to the running weekend with the gals here and some recoup time with DH.
Jess- I really enjoyed seeing the pics of you and your beautiful family. You look so happy and aglow!
Sarah-- thanks for posting Flying Pig pics. You are lucky to have such strong family support and you looked beautiful at the start and finish. You looked happy and strong. It is so nice to see!
Marcia-- glad you and your doc pinned down a hidden problem. I'm glad you are feeling better.
Karen-- good job on that Tempo Run. It sounds like you have a great exercise-family and are working running into your whole family lifestyle in a great way!
Christine-- I have Pinky's extended Lowmax saved, but haven't been brave enough to try it. Good for you that you did it. Maybe after my race, I will give it a whirl. I am also planning to do P90x after the race. I'm looking forward to it. I did ab ripper with my DH on Sunday and liked it, but it was hard.
Mattea- I'm glad you'll have a break coming up with school. Your interval run yesterday sounds fun, mixed with the Tough Core workout. Yesterday, I was short on time and did the abs on Timesaver workout 2. It was a fun change. Again, I like how you are flexible and spontaneous with your workouts, i.e. Tues was gonna' be a rest day, but then, you did what made sense to do.
Kristi--I'm glad surgery is over, but I feel for you to have a fussy baby and not be sure why. It is a very tough workout to stay steady with a young one. Keep up the good and HARD work. You are doing an amazing job! I realize I did a good job with my kids when they were young, young, but it was hard to feel good about it at the time because I was so dang tired!! (It was probably too overwhelming for me at the time to realize how truly tired I was?)
Pamela-- don't be too hard on yourself. The scale is a funny, fickle friend. I am sure you will figure out what the glitch is. It's a journey to lose a lot of weight. You will figure this out. Working out more increases the appetite. When losing weight is a concurrent goal it takes a lot of work to figure out how to strike a balance. For me, I never fail to forget when I am increasing exercise, that more water is critical. I have been burned by not drinking enough many times. I'm great drinking post workout, but sometimes 6 hours, 8 hours 10 hours later, I forget and wake up the next day feeling like hell. Ditto on the vegetables. The more tired I get, the hard it is to get those vegetables in. You will succeed at this!!!!!!!!! Maybe you need a few weeks to feel like you're not "on a diet?" Then regroup?
Ok, onward to the day and I must be in the right mindset for that after school discussion.
Have good workouts everyone!
