Thanks for the welcome! I'll make sure to post a report! I have a little bit of plantar fasciitis in the bottom of my feet/ heels right now & am making sure to wear my orthotic inserts & shoes at all times. The podiatrist said NO barefeet or flip flops!! But the tendonitis on the top of my foot is all gone!! I'm on Naproxen twice a day for another week & then we'll see how my heels feel. They actually feel great when I'm running (as it warms up) & then hurt later on & early in the morning. I've also been rolling a bouncy ball all along the bottom of my foot which is a great massage! The podiatrist also told me to stretch my achilles & hamstrings really well (which I do) & gave me a few exercises w/ a resistance band to do also. Hope your dh's feet are better soon too!

I have the Forerunner too, love it! I never have any problems with mine but I know other people that have had troubles w/ theirs.

Hugs,
Jess

>>Jess- Welcome. I'm actually running a 5K with you tomorrow.
>This is my second ever and I'm so excited. Plus I'm also mom
>to three girls 4,7 and 9.
>karen
>
>

Good luck tomorrow!! Do you have a goal time? Is it a big or small race?

Funny- my girls are about the same age distances as yours!! Mine are 7, 5, & almost 3!!! Gotta love those 3 girl families! :)

Thanks for the welcome, this seems like a fun group!

Hugs,
Jess

Sarah, You *know* Mr Yummypants isn't Tony Horton! I'm so glad to see you here!! :) The 4 miler tomorrow is something new to this area. There was a college student that went missing about 10 years ago and this a fun run for proceeds regarding something about that. It's about a mile from my house and we'll probably run over to it and back home after it is done. I doubt a PR (What is my 4 mile PR anyway? I dunno.) since it's very hilly (guess who is NOT doing it...) But they have a kids sprint that DD will want to do. She's been practicing her running up and down the hall for months now. I think she's ready!:D

Adding: Sarah, We need to talk about your plans for the 2007 fall marathon!

Hi Everyone,
I'm short on time today, but don't want to put off checking in.....

Today was Muscle Endurance and some time on the slideboard. This is device I was encouraged to buy post phys. therapy where you slide back and forth doing speed-skater type movement. It helps me stay injury free and helps with the abductor/adductor muscles, but I feel like I've been flirting with danger here the past few days and I'm being very careful: ice, heat, some stretching, light massage. I want to do my race June 4 and do well, so I'm trying not to be compulsive about sticking to my schedule. Hard for me to do.

Jess--welcome. You sound like a very serious runner and with three girls, too -- that's amazing. Good luck tomorrow. You go girl! I am definitely an early morning runner. I have a hard time feeling zippy to exercise if I don't do it pretty close to first thing in thte a.m.

Laura-- Good luck Sunday. You will be great!!

Karen -- good luck tomorrow. You will do great.:) You must be your daughters' hero!!!

Sarah -- I've had problems with my Garmin and gave up and got a Polor RS something that has a foot mileage/footpod device. I think I read somewhere the newer models of Garmins worked out the glitches. I'm still using the "quitting is not an option" motto. Mr. Yummy pants is Mr. Kest. I saw a review of his tapes at videofitness and he was referred to as that -- and I'm not saying that that is the ONLY reason I bought the DVD, but it was a "factor."

Carole -- thanks for the support about resting/listening to the body. I need to be careful given my injury history. Thanks for posting the ladder run. I copied it and look forward to doing it after my race. :) New shoes are so fun!! There's a lot of exictement building locally for the race/half June 4, so it's all starting to feel very real to me, but I'm glad I have a little time left.

Elaine-- have a great workout today! You really have your racing/training organized well!
I liked the websites you posted about different races. Maybe I can get my husband to run and we can plan a vacation to do that wine country half next year. I have previewed some P90X tapes and I would have to agree that Tony H. is not Mr. Yummy.

Mattea-- congrats school is over. You made it!! Enjoy the schools-out-for-summer mode!
Today I did the abs on ME in the middle of the workout -- like your suggestion to do PUB abs first. That way I wouldn't be able to make an excuse to not do them. Also, I wanted to do them after the leg work since I think the core-ab-leg-hip area is my weak link.

Wendy-- I like how you modified the tempo run to suit you. Keep us posted on what you decide to do in terms of running days per week and what works well.

Gayle -- you're weekend sounds fun and that Marine Corp marathon does, too. I am new to all of this, so is there something the Marine Corp marathon is known for in terms of course or party atmosphere?

Shelly- Hi -- thanks for the hill comraderie. I'm looking forward to hearing how your trail race training goes. There aren't many trails around where I live, but I wish there were. I didn't realize you work nights. That would kill me. I am a morning person through and through. Tempo run and MM sounds challenging.

Pamela -- how was the talent show? Do you do PLB and PUB straight through or use premixes. I have a love-hate relationship with those tapes.

Hi to everyone else to come later (Thomasina-how's DD?, Judy - how was golfing, Amy-good luck on your race) and to anyone I missed. Wishing you all a great day and good luck to all the racers! I can't wait to hear how it goes!

Barb

:) :) :)

Ok, I'm REALLY IN A BIGGGGGGGG hurry here to pack up the car and go, but I wanted to check in one last time. Sorry that I can't comment to everybody like I usualy try to do...the camping wilderness is calling me! LOL

Jess-HI!!!!!! WELCOME ABOARD! Good luck tomorrow.

Carole-that run looks great. I'll add that to the other tempo run the ladies shared and I'll try it out next week!

Marine Corps Marathon (for those that asked) is October 29. It's konwn as the People's Marathon or something like that. From everybody that I've talked to that have run this (and quite a few friends have) it's really cool that at every turn or corner, you are seeing a new monument or statue or building!!! The Marines organize it and pretty much station EVERYTHING from the water stations to the packet pick up to the medical unit (sounds like a great way to see some hot men, right? LOL). DFiance is an Army Reservist for 20+ years now and he's trying to get me to wear his ARMY shirt and shorts for the marathon. LOL

Sarah-if you're going to do the MCM in '07, I may have to do it in back-to-back years! LOL As for Marathon Letdown, I was the same way after Disney. I was in a mental (and eating) slump for about 4 days afterward, wondering, "what's NEXT?" LOL Enjoy your recovery and TAKE YOUR TIME! It took me 2 FULL ENTIRE weeks for the backs of my knees to stop aching.

Elaine-I'll jot down your races, and next week I'll post the updated list.

If anybody has any upcoming races that were not listed by me earlier this week, LET ME KNOW! Jess, what are you aiming for besides this weekend's run???

OK.....I MUST RUN! I've got all the packing to do. My weekend goal is to EAT HEALTHY! There is NO reason why I can't....I'm stocked up on bananas, yogurt, apples, Boca Burgers, Kielbasa, beans, etc. Oh, and bottled water!

Have a great weekend!

Gayle

gayle--have a great trip. Good for you for trying to eat healthy!

Thanks for the description about the Marine Corps marathon. It sounds great.

Christine-- forgot to mention that yesterday I did KPC abs and did some Pikes in your honor. You have reminded me to not ignore that core -- it's the key to everything as Cathe says, I think.

Have a great day and weekend!

Barb

Have a great time!!! We love to camp too, it's so much fun!! It is hard to eat healthy while camping but the biggest thing is to plan ahead & it looks like you've got that done!

As for races planned, so far I have another 5K in June, a 7 mile super hill run in July, and might possibly start training for a full marathon in late Sept. (my running buddy who's done 6 marathons now really wants me to train w/ her!) I'm sure that I'll find a few other races to squeeze in there too!! :) I'm so addicted to the racing, it's sooo fun!!

I hope you enjoy your weekend!! I can't wait to go camping again!

Good morning all!

This is going to sound really weird, but I think my foot was literally a cramp that got stuck. It had to work it's way out and finally did. That's what it felt like, and the aftermath is similar to the aftermath of a charlie horse. Oh well - the good news is I'm better.

I'm hearing all the hoopla on the Bay to Breakers, and I soo want to run it. It's such a mess, the starting line is so jam packed that you are pressed up against the other people, there are tortillas flying everywhere (did you ever get hit in the head with a tortilla - those puppies HURT!), it can take 30 minutes just to cross the start line, and another mile before you can even start running, but it has to be the funniest race I've ever seen. The easiest 7.2 miles you'll ever run - and the course is tough. People are in costume, there are bars being pulled down the street by enterprising college students (equipped with a barman making drinks!), drag queens, I saw Kiss (the entire band - well, people dressed like them), a whole group of running Elvis's, bands every half mile or so... And PEOPLE! There's always something to look at... Only in San Francisco. Oh well, I've run it twice, and have wonderful memories (except the Hayes street hill - that is a real bear!)

I digress...

Laura - oh, just go and have a blast! I'll be running with you, Amy and Karen in spirit!

Karen - you have fun too! I'm definitely going to be thinking of you, Amy and Laura!!

Amy - Wish I could run with you! I'm so bummed! Have fun! Hope your foot feels better!

Tigger - looks like a great Tempo run! Have a blast!

Gayle - have fun camping! And how exciting on the Marathon registration!

Shelly - enjoy your tempo run as well!

Carole - enjoy yoru new shoes and the cool weather! We got some sprinkles too - it was so weird (fortunately it was after I came back from walking the dogs!) I'm hoping tomorrow is like today - perfect for a good run. (not windy, though - I don't do windy that well!)

Jess - WELCOME!!! I thought about a Garmin, but I heard that if you run where there are a lot of trees, you have issues with the satelitte transmission. As I have experience with the Garmin GPS's and this issue, I figured it was true. Do you have that problem? I know they have a new one out that's supposed to have a stronger signal. I'm keeping an eye on those - it would be great for both hiking and running. I'd love to know my altitude.

Elaine - as soon as I'm do posting here, I'll pop over to yesterday's thread and read your race schedule! I'll see if I can do any that you are doing!

Sarah - wow, the recovery from a Marathon sounds almost as daunting as the marathon itself! Hope you're back to running again soon!

Barb- way to go on the pikes! I'm so proud of you!

Christine --

BTW, I saw on TV today that Jimmy Buffet is supposed to be on the Today Show sometime next week -- I think Friday?

-Barb

Gayle-My dance card is pretty full! I love race season!! I have 2 5K's next weekend...that's why I love Holiday weekends!! One I will do for sure, the other...decide later...I may do a walk up registration. Anyway, I will get my race list to you.

Elaine-DD will do GREAT! Sounds like she has been working hard on her intervals. Hey, not one bit surprised that you are the only one doing the 4 miler! I was going to ask...but knew the answer! As for 2007 Fall...still up in the air so don't throw me up against the wall just yet! St. George scares me!!

welcome jess!!!

sarah, your always welcome here:) what would we do without you!!!
and thanks for the support.all of you ladies have been great support and I appreciate everyone of you!!!!

elaine thanks for worrying about me but to ease your mind, I dont run late at night very often. I run early morning around 6:30am more often than I do at night. My running buddy marci goes with me sometimes. You ladies dont know my friend marci but she has been such an inspiration to me and has encouraged me. I have asthma and couldnt run in the cold weather without it burning my lungs . I mean I couldnt even run half a mile. she encouraged me to keep trying at least one day a week in the winter. she ran with me and gave me one of her cool max mouth covers to help keep the cold out of my lungs during the runs and low and behold I worked my way up to 7miles in the dead of winter. she also has taught me that no matter how fast or slow you are , its all about the fact that your doing it, not what time you place. she is 49yrs old and I met her at a race last year. I went up and introduced myself to her because I had always seen her run by my house. I am so glad I approached her because she has been such a dear friend and I have learned so muchfrom her. she also tells me what you all do about my SIL, not to let her bad carma get to me. I am sorry for rambling but I know how rare a friend like her comes around, except for all of you of course. But because of her this past year I have become a stronger more confident runner. I have told her that she is and inspiration to me and that I have really enjoyed running with her this past year. I dont take that for granted. okay I will shut up, I am getting all emotional. everyone have a great weekend and for the 5k's, go kick some butt!!!!we are cheering you on!!!!

Laura-Sorry you've been feeling so tired. I would say if you're more hungry AND tired then maybe you're not taking in enough good calories to fuel your body's tough workouts. I'd try adding in another good snack (couple hundred calories) and trying to get some extra sleep for the race this weekend. Hope you feel better and best of luck!

Wendy-Look like a great run! Be advised you will be a sweaty mess:)

Gayle-Have a great time this weekend! Sounds awesome, I LOVE archery! Hope the weather is better where you are:( WHOOHOO on the Marine Corps!!!

ShellyC-Glad you enjoyed your rest, sounds like you are RARING to go today, lol}( And SuperCarole, pure, genius, truth...But the whole 25 miles is UP!!! ExtremeShelly;-) Thanks for the summer well wishes, now I just wish we had the weather to match.

Karen-I'm so excited for you this weekend!! I hope everything goes perfectly and better than perfectly. And if it doesn't than you'll know why and be able to do that much better next time! You rock!

Carole-Thanks for the information on intervaling, I kind of like the shorter intervals as it makes the run FLY by, but I also like the idea of longer rest...;-) Ahhh, the benefits of good genes. I love the tempo run! I'm very excited to run it with my HRM, it keeps me more honest than perceived exertion, lol. Hope you have fun with your new shoes!

Jess-WELCOME! I didn't get the chance to say hello yesterday, but I just want to say how happy I am that our ranks are swelling. :+ :7 Sounds like you have a very serious committment to running, to be up at 5 or running pushing a stroller-how much resistance does that add? Great luck on your 5K tomorrow! I wish I had your "gadget" I'd love to be able to pace myself like that and use it to figure distances.

Elaine-Good luck on the 4 miler tomorrow! I also crave the dripping with sweat feeling, self-admitted cardio junkie, lol!

Barb-I know you're using the slide board to be safe, but MAN that sounds like fun! Just take it easy on your body and let yourself get feeling completely strong--you're training to run for the rest of your life, not just for a single race. Be patient and get well:)

Sarah!!! We love you! And we wouldn't have this thread with out you. Just remember that you'll be back to kicking yours and our butts with your workouts very soon, so be generous and let us have our moment;-) I'm glad your recovery is going well and also can't wait to see the miles you can burn up on the half.

Christine-I'm so glad that you're better, I know what you mean by aftermath, the absence of pain, but almost tender. Breakers sounds like a complete madhouse! What fun, like trying to run through Mardi Gras or something=-)

Today was Imax Extreme, GS C&T, and 15 min Ab Hits for me. I feel great! Like I've been worked out and over everywhere! Managed to up my weights in GS on a few exercises, especially since I took a 5 min. break between chest and triceps. I highly recommend it as I could then match all of Cathe's weights, except the 25 for overhead extension--I have NO clue how she pulls that one off:7 Oh, I forgot to tell everyone that I saw a racoon on my run yesterday morning. He was eating a Hershey Bar that someone threw by the side of the road, he looked so sheepish as he ran away! Too cute:)
Good morning and hello to Judy, Marcia, Pamela, and Thomasina!
Have a great day,
Mattea

Hi again.

Tempo run is complete!:) It ended up taking me 45 mins total b/c I lost track of time a few times. LOL It ended up being a 3 miler not including w/u and c/d. I was soaked when it was over but I am very please with my performance. It was a challenge for me but VERY doable at the same time. Does that make sense? Starting at 5.0 was a bit slow though...I'm thinking of bumping it up a couple points for next time. }(

ShellyC...I just LOVE MM! It's such a great weight work out! It's my favorite! Enjoy it! That inner thigh work KILLS me!}( Thanks for the input on my rotation. It's always good to hear from someone with experience!

Gayle...YOU GO GIRL! MARINE CORPS MARATHON! WOO HOO!:7

Karen...Best of luck with your 5k tomorrow. I know you'll do awesome!

Carole...I hope your shoes work well for you! I'm always excited too when I get new work out shoes or apparel! :)

Jess...I'm glad your foot is better and that it was not a stress fracture! I normally run around 10 am at the gym (treadmill). I haven't ventured outdoors yet. It's hard w/a one year old and I don't have a jogger stroller. They aren't cheap and I won't spend the $ until I know for sure I'll use it often enough. I'm going to have to plan for a couple of outdoor runs soon while DH is around to watch DS. I would like to run a 5K one day down the line and I need to get experience outside in order to do that.

Elaine...Enjoy your elliptical w/o today and knock 'em dead tomorrow! So you think I am enjoying running...whatever gave you that idea?? ;) :p

Barb...Oooooh ME, now that's a fryer!}( Hope you enjoyed the burn!:)

Christine...Wow..that race sounds like a friggin' riot!:7 Glad your foot is better.

Sarah...My idol! You're back!:) Take it easy girl...you deserve it! I know how it is though...resting can drive an active person INSANE!!! LOL As for my progress...I find myself super inspired by you and every other woman here! Heck, it's the runners here on Cathe's forum that inspired me to even TRY it and I'm so glad that I did because I am really falling in love with it. It's such a great feeling. Once I made it up to that 2 mile mark it got easier for me. It's so funny how everyone says the same thing about pushing past 2 miles and it's sooo true!

Thanks for being my inspiration...ALL OF YOU! I NEVER thought I could run and look at me now!:+

Hey Mattea - how are you?! Yes, you have it right - like running through Mardi Gras. It's so fun, but getting back to your car is such a challenge - you cannot even find taxis - it's nuts.

Wendy - WAY TO GO on the tempo run! 3 miles?! WOW! Great job! :) Next year you'll come out and we'll run the Bay to Breakers. We'll dress up like Cathe...

LMAO Christine!:7 Could you imagine getting a group of Catheites together to do this and all dressing up like her!? OMG how funny!:+ :7 :+

Better yet....you ladies are SUCH ENABLERS...I'm sure you can convince Cathe to run a marathon with us! Imagine all meeting up with Cathe to run a marathon! Now that's a dream! LOL

Gayle

Good afternoon runners,

Welcome Jess! :)

Good luck Karen, Jess, Laura, and Elaine on your races tomorrow! Hope you have loads of fun, and also that you surpass any goals you may have set for yourselves.

Barb, the talent show was really cute, and I saw some really talented 4th graders. Glad you're able to listen to your body and adjust your workout accordingly. Hopefully you'll be feeling a-ok soon with no injuries or setbacks. I just do the pyramids as is. I haven't tried any premixes for them yet. Do you recommend any?

Thomasina, you and your family (esp your dd)will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope she returns home soon!

Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear about your injury. :( I hope you feel better soon!

Hi Shelly, Carole, Sarah, Mattea, Amy, Judy, Gayle (have fun camping!), Christine, and Wendy! :) (I hope I didn't forget anybody, but if I did, hello to you too! :))

Today was a 5 mile tempo run (w/u & c/d included in mileage).

My 3 yr old has been begging me to take him to see Cars, and my 10 yr old wants to see Lindsay Lohan's new movie (I'm not sure it's appropriate though, has anyone seen it?), so I guess I'll be at the movies at some point during this weekend.

Have a great weekend!

WOW! I would just love to take a live class with Cathe at her gym and here you go talkin' about running with her!? OMG!:D

Pamela--
Glad the talent show was cute. Talented 4th graders sounds like something fun to see.
I like the pyramid Up premixes and the Bonus combo. Sometimes when I do the whole tape, I get impatient with the pyramidding down.

Wendy-- your baby is so cute! I just looked at your profile because you or Christine mentioned racing in CA next year. It's interesting how we all span the coast. ME is definitely hard. Those bicep partial reps do me in. Good job on that Tempo Run. I'm so glad you are liking running. I did a lot, a lot of treadmill running before I mixed it with outdoors running because my kids were young and I couldn't arrange the logistics.

Okay -- the lot of us dressed up as Catheites running? Too funny. Crazymax?

Mattea-- thank you for the reminder that the point is to stay health for life and be able to run or walk or exercise until I'm officially an old coot. I'm hoping this hip flare up will calm down in time for the half on June 4, but I'm taking it a day at a time. I may do some floor work tomorrow if I'm not ready for my long run and shift long run to Sunday or shorten it this week. All options...Great job to you for increasing weights and good idea taking a break between chest and triceps. That tape is hard!

great weekend to all
-Barb
