Cathlete
hello,

I didnt get a chance to read yesterdays posts. I have been so tired this week for some reason and more hungry. I was suppose to run yesterday but didnt get it in, so I think Iwill do just 20min on the treadmill this morning. I planned on taking today and tomorrow off but I feel I need to a little something today since I didnt get it in yesterday. I want my legs fresh for sunday but also dont want too long off either before the race.Hopefully this wont affect my run on sunday.

anyway, thanks wendy, carole, gayle, karen, christine, barb, elaine and everyone else for the good wishes. I hope I will do good but told myself you never know how your going to do each run and whatever I achieve I did my best. I will be thinking of all you ladies on the forum and also thinking what sarah told herself during her marathon.Where has sarah been anyway? She has been an inspiration here.

elaine, I dont carry anything with me. I planned on getting pepper spray but when I go late or real early, I have a path I take that has many people I know that live in the area. I never go by myself in areas that have no houses. I usually take my cell phone too.

carole your workout yesterday sounded tough.

karen goodluck on your next 5k. you'll do great!!

talk with you ladies later:)

Hi Laura. I'm sure you'll do great! I can't wait to hear about it. I can't recall...is this your first race? For some reason I'm thinking not but could be wrong.

I am hoping to head to the gym today for a tempo run. I created a 40 min one for the rotation I am going to start come Monday and I wanted to try it out. This is what it looks like...when you see the speeds keep in mind that I'm a slow runner. :p

Laura-BEST WISHES for this weekend. I am so excited for you and Karen! GOOD LUCK, and like you said...just do your best. That's all anybody can do.

Karen-GOOD LUCK this weekend!!!!!!!!!!

Wendy-your run looks good. It's pretty much like the one the ladies here posted for me a week or so ago. ENJOY!

As for me, I was up early and dug out a long-unused DVD...Spinervals! Sweating Buckets, and I DID! LOL. For whatever reason, last night I just got the urge when I saw it on my shelf! I followed that up with Core Max #2 and then a 10 minute Bosu workout. FELT GREAT!

I'm packing the car for our weekend camping trip and will be heading out as soon as the bus comes this afternoon! I'm really looking forward to it. No workout planned for tomorrow besides the archery, b.b. gun shooting, relay races. Sunday night or afternoon, I'll do my long run of 6 miles and more core work.

BBL

Gayle

thanks gayle and wendy.

wendy, your right this isnt my first half. My first half I went in blind though. Only running4 months prior to that . So my time is slowly getting better. I am still a slower runner ,hope to get faster.

I just downloaded new songs for sunday. 2more days!!

Hi Y'all! I had a great rest day yesterday, after work this morning I'll do a 30-40 min tempo run, then Muscle Max when I get up.
Laura- best of luck to you with your HM! I love running that distance. You really feel like you've accomplished something. You've planned it very wisely.

Wendy- your rotation idea yesterday sounds really good and well thought out. Running only 3-4 days a week to start with and using crosstraining is definitely the smart way to go, especially if you want to stay injury free!

Gayle- Thank you SO MUCH for your race list. I copied that one.
You're camping weekend sounds like such FUN, I'm quite envious!

Karen- Good luck with the next 5 k although I don't think you need it. You'll be an old pro now and can relax and have fun...GO GET EM!!! :7

Jess- A very warm welcome to you!! You sound like a serious racer...
look forward to hearing about your events.

SuperCarole- (new name :p ) Would you have any sage wisdom for me on doing a trail race. i.e- different strategies I may need as opposed to a road race?

Mattea- I'm so happy for you that you're through with your hard work and can relax and enjoy the summer now WOOHOO:7 Thank you so much for your kind words on my pics (blush) I've been kayaking for a few years now... it's actually quite easy to pick up and get the hang of.

Christine- I'm so glad your foot's all better:7 The pics of your hiking look awesome!

Hi Barb! So you remember me with the hills eh? I definitely have a love-hate relationship with them, there are days I swear they are positively EVIL! Most of the time I don't let them get the best of me-.....CHARGE!!!- I've committed myself this October to a 25 mile race that goes up a mountain
  (yes I am insane)

Elaine- You have one BUSY race schedule there! I envy you California girls with your beautiful scenery and weather, perfect for racing!

Amy- best of luck to you with your 5K!

Got to run- Hi to Pamela, Marcia, Judy(how's the new route?)

ShellyC

Hi, again. I'm back to just say:

I AM NOW OFFICIALLY REGISTERED FOR THE MARINE CORPS MARATHON IN DC IN OCTOBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gayle

Hello Everyone. Today is my schedule rest day for the 5K tomorrow. I did do 30 min of lower body yoga just to strech myself out this morning.

Laura- Thanks for being my cheerleader. I can't wait until tomorrow

Wnedy- the tempo run looks good. Your doing great.

Gayle- Good work on commiting to the marathon. It feels like such an accomplishment to put the paper in the mail and commit. Have fun this weekend.

I'm going to shower, eat and then off to dental appts. Check in later. Have a great run eveyone.

ShellyC- I almost missed you. We posted together. Thanks for the encouragement. You girls have really been there for me. Have fun with MM and your run. You all make the day go easier with such inspiring words at the beginning of the day. Your like the calender that you read one a day to get your daily encouragment in.

Good morning runners

Laura...I don't think your workout today will affect your run Sunday. I think you'll feel great!! I always run with pepper spray, and the funny thing is I don't think it is really for the animals...but the humans...:)

Gayle...Have a great weekend camping. it sounds like alot of fun!! Great job getting registered Gayle....now you have a goal...:)

Good Luck Karen!!!!!

Welcome Jess! What kind of tendonitis did you have? Achilles? You have been busy with runs!! For me weights have always helped avoid injuries along with other cardio crosstraining.

Shelly...thats a cute name you picked for me..:)...I have always had a love/hate relationship will hills too!! Trails runs aren't real different depending on the trail, but start out slow. If it is a single track trail the only problem can be when you get behind someone slower than you. Most of the time they will move over, otherwise you just say "passing on the right". Try and remember to pick up your feet as the rocks and things can be tricky and you don't want to trip. Generally your paces will be a bit slower on a trail than pavement runs. 25 mile up a mountain in Oct...WOW!!!!!!

Elaine...runners must think alike with weight workouts!...:)...I have often felt that extenstions have keep my knees strong and one of the reasons I have avoided knee problems..You have alot of races coming up!! Way to go...

Mattea...I am happy you are Free!! I would say I can thank my Mom & Dad for these legs...:)...As far as interval training there are so many ways to do it. I kind of modified mine from a Runners World article a few years back for speedwork when you didn't use a track. It was originally sprint for 100 seconds and recover 3 min. As I have not ever worked with a coach I really don't know the benfits of longer or shorter recoveries, basically I do what I like to do..:)...I also have another called a "ladder" that uses a Heart Rate Monitor. I'll post that at the end of this.

Christine...that is great your foot is better!! http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/r/dance.gif[/img] We even got some sprinkles here today, and are supposed to be cool the whole weekend. WOW! That looks like a beautiful pkace to hike with your friend. I bet you will be in great shape for hiking too after all this running..:)

Barb...I can tell you are listening to your body and truthfully sometimes if you don't rest the pain in some places can intensify with continued running. The Legwork in P90X Legs & back is really good. I did always add more legwork in my rotation as I have always worked my legs more...Pilates felt really good after my 6 mile interval run yesterday!

Wendy..looks like a good rotation..:)...yes my shorter weekly runs are faster than my Sunday long run.

This is a speedwork run I found in a Heart Rate monitor book and does require one. It is referred to as a "ladder" I know there are also variations.
You need to know your max HR. Mine is 183. Subtract 40 from that and after running for about 10 min start the ladder:
5 min between hr 143-148
5 min between hr 148-153
5 min between hr 153-158
5 min between hr 158-163
5 min between hr 163-168
then back down
5 min between hr 158-163
5 min between hr 153-158
5 min between hr 148-153
5 min between hr 143-148
You probably need to go about 6 miles and these are my hr's so adjust for yours!

I am doing P90X Back without Legs, abs and at least a 6 mile run. I got some new shoes to try out!!!! Yippee....:)

Have a great day...:)

Laura, Good luck on your 1/2. A little extra rest before Sunday will benefit you rather than harm you! I'm sure you'll do great and will be checking in on Sunday to get your report. I guess I'm still going to have to worry about you out there running at night!! LOL!! You *should* get some pepper spray!

Gayle, I don't know if you saw my list of upcoming races since I posted it on yesterday's thread last night when it would have been very late in PA. I missed it if you mentioned your camping trip before. It sounds like a lot of fun! Whoo hoo!! on the marathon sign up. When exactly is it? So far you, Sarah and I have fall marathons scheduled. Anyone else???

Wendy, Looks like you've got a good running plan in motion. I get the idea that you like it.:)

Shelly, I don't know how you do it, working at night. I did that decades ago and never ever felt rested. So, have you signed up for a trail run?

Amy, I hope you foot heals up a little better before Sunday.

Christine, Really glad to hear that your foot problem is not such a big problem after all. Did you see my race schedule?

Carole, What's on tap for today? How much time do you spend working out on a typical day?

Good morning to Karen, Sarah (I know you're our there somewhere!! We miss you here!), Thomasina, Barb, Mattea. Please tell me I didn't miss anyone  . I'm really going to have to keep a list here with me!! If I missed you it's just because I've got a memory that needs some polishing.

My sheduled workout for today is just a visit with Mr. Yummypants but I think I need to put some time in on my elliptical. I never have days where I do just yoga since I crave dripping with sweat. I do have a 4 mile race tomorrow so I think I'll tone down the intensity. Have a great day everyone!:)

Hi Elaine....we must have posted about the same time!! I normally spend about 2 hours working out a day, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Good luck on your race!!!...:)

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!! I am getting excited for all of the races coming up!! I think someone else asked about my tendonitis- it was actually in the tendon on top of my left foot that all of the other tendons connect to... a very bad spot!!! The Dr. thought it was a stress fracture at first (and me too!) but after an x-ray & bone scan that was ruled out I was referred to a podiatrist who diagnosed the tendonitis. After a month of Naproxen & rest, it was feeling much better!!!

Anyway, I have a 5K planned tomorrow so I'm kind of taking it easy today so that my legs will be fresh! I'll probably just do some Pilates & walk a bit.

Also, I was wondering when most of you run? Early mornings? That seems to work best for me, when I was seriously training hard I was up at 5AM to get my runs in before my dh left for work. I take my big dog w/ me- he's my guard dog! :) Otherwise I run in the afternoons after dropping my 5yo off at school & take my 2yo in the jogger.

Do any of you run w/ a Garmin/ GPS? I love mine, can't imagine running w/out it now! Otherwise I run in the afternoons after dropping my 5yo off at school & take my 2yo in the jogger.

Oh, and for speedwork, I generally do a mile warm up, then do .25 mile sprints (@ 7- 7:30 min miles) a few times, then a mile or so cool down.

Hugs,
Jess

Hi Jess...I agree that you do look like a serious runner!! Good Luck on your 5K tomorrow and let us know how it goes. I am much more a morning runner. Where I live in Calif it is cooking in the summer so running in the afternoon might kill you...I am so glad you didn't have a stress fracture...Although tendonitis anywhere is a pain, I get it in my Achilles from time to time...:)

Ok, I'm done eating but couldn't let myslef get any futher unless I said hi to Carole, Elanine and Jess.

Carole- Thanks for posting that run. I need to get myself a heart rate monitor now. Birthday, September, DH needs some ideas, Monitor. Yes, that should do it.

Elaine- Good luck on the 4 miler tomorrow. Any yes Mr. Yummypants is just perfect for getting ready. Those pants are just so darn motivating.

Jess- Welcome. I'm actually running a 5K with you tomorrow. This is my second ever and I'm so excited. Plus I'm also mom to three girls 4,7 and 9.

OK. I went to yesterday's thread since I saw a new name mentioned here this morning that somehow got past me.

Welcome Jess! Glad to have you join us.

And I noticed also that I didn't say hello to Marica and Pamela so, Good Morning!:)

One more thing. I FORGOT Karen's second ever 5K!!! :)

GOOD LUCK! I hope you enjoy this one as much as the last (of course you will) I'll be thinking about you and will be excited to hear how it goes.

<<<sheepishly pokes her head into the thread>>>>

Hi Ladies! I have been MIA, I know! However, I have been thinking of all of you! I guess I just needed a week to get adjusted to "life after the marathon"!LOL!! Piss poor excuse, I know! To be honest, it has been hard to read all the beautiful and fun workouts you guys have been doing and I am not allowed! I promise, I am never this much of a baby, but when it comes to working out...well, yall know how I am about working out!

Anyway, I hope I can be forgiven and I hope yall will have me back!

O.k. Ladies, all the races have my heart pounding! I am itching to do a 1/2!! I ran Tuesday with my training group and it felt a lot better! I have been doing the elliptical since because I am still working on recovery! I have to keep the weights light for at least another week and nothing for lower body! See why I am pouting???x(

I don't know what "Mr. Yummypants" means but since I know Elaine...I'm going to guess it's "Kest"!!

Laura- You are going to ROCK this Sunday during your 1/2! I am sure you are very excited! I cannot wait to hear how great you did! Just try to relax and remember your plan! I want to do a 1/2 real soon! It's such a great distance...very challenging and rewarding to complete without taxing your body to the point where you can't walk down the stairs unless it's backwards!

Wendy- WOW!!! You went from a walk/run to composing your own tempo runs in no time!! That workout looks fantastic! You are doing so awesome! I am extremely impressed! Keep it up!

Gayle- Oh, I am jealous, so jealous! Camping AND Marine Corp.?? Who wouldn't be?! You have a blast this weekend, I know you will! Toast a marshmellow for me! I have been hearing about Marine Corp. and I may make that my Fall 2007 marathon! It looks awesome, I cannot wait to hear your feedback!!

Karen- My precious Karen...another race...already?? You have us all so proud! You are going to do amazing. You did awesome 2 weeks ago, now that you know what to expect, you can relax into it and show 'em how it's done!! We will be buring for the details so don't forget us!!

Jess- Welcome, welcome!! Best of luck on your 5K! Make sure you tell us all about it!! Do you have tendonitis now? How are you treating it? My DH has it from last Summer and he is just now getting it cleaned up. He goes to PT twice a week and has a batch of exercises done twice a day for his ankles and feet. He has me doing some of them...preventative measures! I usually run with a GPS (Garmin Forerunner) but it cuts out on certain streets. I need to send it back for analysis and repair!

Elaine-Best of luck on your 4 mile race! Are you going for a PR?

Hello and Good Morning to Carole and ShellyC!!!

>Hi Jess...I agree that you do look like a serious runner!!
>Good Luck on your 5K tomorrow and let us know how it goes. I
>am much more a morning runner. Where I live in Calif it is
>cooking in the summer so running in the afternoon might kill
>you...I am so glad you didn't have a stress
>fracture...Although tendonitis anywhere is a pain, I get it in
>my Achilles from time to time...:)

Thanks!! I just love any kind of exercise!! I'll let you know how the 5K goes, it's just a small local thing so it will be fun. I have a friend that I run with (she just lives up the street from me) & we normally do our longer runs Sat mornings & sometimes bike early Sunday mornings. It's nice to have a friend to do that with! It will be getting hot/ humid in the midwest as June hits plus my kids will be out of school so I'll have to get back to my early routine. I had a little bit of achilles problems after my half marathon, not fun either!!

Anyway, thanks again for the warm welcome here!! My girls are 7, 5, & almost 3. My 7yo also loves to run & exercise with me. She loves the chin-up bar on the playset & can do a few reps of her own!! :)

Hugs,
Jess
