Good Morning Sunday Runners.

Today on tap is a long outdoor run for me. I don't know how far I'm going yet but when i get home I'll let you know how I did. The weather here today is going to be just right, 75 and sunny. Now tomorrow is another story ,so I thought I would get my long run in while the weather is cooperating. Have a wonderful Sunday.

Good morning Karen and all runners to follow.

Karen...I bet you are still glowing...http://bestsmileys.com/clapping/5.gif[/img] Have a great long run today..

I woke up to this http://bestsmileys.com/weather/3.gif so I do think I'll be doing my long run 18-20 miles in the rain....hoping the lightning subsides before I go out!!

I wonder how Elaine did yesterday?...and wishing Laura lots of good luck, she should be almost done by now...:)

Have a great day...:)

Good morning runners...ready set post (I've been wanting to say that)
:) :) :) :) :)
Congratulations again to Karen and Jess, you both turned in some awesome performances on your 5ks and your hard training really paid off. I'm sure you're both on cloud nine today!

Carole- I LOVE that little rain cloud- you're posts are so entertaining as well as educating! 18-20 miles in the rain....there goes SuperCarole ;-)

AmyG- having your Dad with you on your 10k is so fabulous and moving to me...and the work you do with your bootcampers. You must be a special lady....I don't care what time you run today, you are definitely a winner in our books

:7 :7 :7

today is a semi long run- 14 miles. Time to get going, Hi to all who follow

ShellyC

Shellys "semi long run" is what I call a "long run";) Too funny!

:7 Great job again Jess and Karen!!

Carole, I didn't think ANY weather kept you indoors! Lightening...I can undersatnd that one! It's the only thing I will not run in! I did once, but that was only because it started 1/2 way into the run and the quickest way to get out of it was to...well, finish my run! I may not fear much but lightening makes the list! Hope you can get out there safely!

I cannot wait to here form Elaine and Laura!! Laura is doing a 1/2 marathon today, a really big one in Cleveland! I hope the weather is nice up there!

I may do yoga with Elaine's Mr. Yummypants later. I must admit, I have a bit of a glow today, too! I am really happy with how I did yesterday at the track!

Aw, THANKS Shelly!!!! :) You've made my morning and my dad isn't even here yet!

I've got to find the Motrin and take a few to get me and my foot through this... :p

This will be my first ever Chip-timed run! I'm excited about that. ;) I have done several runs with one group and the main guy announces at the beginning all their runs are chip-timed... and then proceeds to say his own nickname is Chip, LOL. :7

Hope everyone survives their runs today!!!

Good morning everyone,

I just emailed the following description of the four miler I did yesterday so will be lazy and cut and paste it here:

The four mile race....... Well, I'll start off with OMG!! It was a couple of miles from my house and I knew the general vicinity but was totally unaware of the magnitude of the hill. And since it was a two mile loop we had to run it twice. I can honestly say that I have never run a longer, steeper hill before that one! I'm glad I didn't see it before I ran it but after conquering it once I knew what to do so that I could run up it on the second pass without walking. Brad said his GPS measured the loop as being a bit longer than 2 miles on top of that. I'm just glad they didn't make it a 10K and have us run the loop a third time! LOL! So, my over all time was 36:40 (9:10 pace). I have no idea where I placed since they only announced the top three males and the top three females. The third place female finished in 32:44 so I didn't do too too badly.

If the rain holds off then I'll be running 12 miles today. If it does rain I might still do the 12 miles since I can't really blow off a long run and then live with myself in harmony when I've got a marathon in the sort of near future.

I better go read yesterday's thread and see what the other racers did. I'll be back in a bit with my gushing admiration when I've got the facts!!

Good morning all!

DH is asleep, still, so I'm taking the time to wave a cheery hello! And to so GO AMY!! GO LAURA!!

Amy - As Shelly says, you're a special lady. I'm happy to know you! Just enjoy being with your dad. I know, I know - the group does get the old competitive spirit going - which is a really good thing! But, I think you'll have a blast with dad. It's icky, so I hope the rain holds off for your run!

Elaine - way to go on that HILL!!! HOLY COW! That sounds challenging! Glad you made it and are ready for a long run today!

Carole - I hope the lightning goes away too!! As a climber I hear so many horrible things about lightning, but I used to mountain bike in it - go figure. :) Have a great run!

Sarah - great to hear that you're feeling really good about your running. I have to admit that you and Carole really inspire me to do more. Yesterday's six miler was tough, because I had been lax in the cardio department through the week because of my foot. I kept thinking of you and your toe, and Amy and her foot, and realized that some sore quads was a pitiful excuse not to finish. I even improved my time from last week, and burned less calories (hr stayed a bit lower).

Thomasina - how's DD? I've been thinking about you and sending good vibes your way.

Today I'm going to do KPC through the High Intensity Drills, the KM Blasts, and the drills from CK (my favorite kick boxing workout). Followed by Yoga - might even do Yoga X. Then it's all the chores I neglected yesterday like grocery shopping.

ENJOY YOUR SUNDAY EVERYONE!!! And GO LAURA!!! GO AMY!!!

OK. I'm up to speed now!

Way to go Jess and Karen!

Karen, I just love your enthusiasm! It's very infectuous and is one of the reasons I love this check-in. :)

Jess, Wow! You've done alot for yourself these past few years. Did you follow any particular diet when you lost the 70 lbs? I know what you mean about maintaining your weight. At 46 years old it's not easy for me to cheat and get away with it. Your running time is fantastic and you have every right to be proud of your time!!:) We here all are! :D Running hills is known as speed work in disguise and, having a 4 year old DD, I would say the same thing about pushing a child in the jogger! It ain't easy, no sir!:7

Amy, I hope you and your dad have fun with today's wet 10K. It's raining here too (What is up with this rain out here in CA this year?) And I hope you were able to just enjoy being with your dad and not worry about the bootcampers.

Christine, Sounds like you're happy to have DH home. I enjoy, to a certain extent, the times when my DH is gone but there is a limit to how long I like it before I'm wanting to have things the way they are supposed to be with him here. I can't remember if you ran your 6 miles or will be doing it. Heck, I'm not even sure now if it was you who said they are running 6 miles. I think it was you! Oh well, just have fun with whatever you have planned today!!

Carole, How did the wet run go? I'll be joining you soon. Not my favorite thing to do.....:( Running in the rain, I mean.

Sarah, How did your time with Bryan Kest go? Even though I agree with it, I didn't come up with the term, so don't blame me!!

Hello to Barb, Shelly, Mattea, Pamela, Thomasina, Wendy, Oh MAN, who else??? Did I miss anyone? I REALLY need to keep a list of you all by my computer!

Hi Everyone,

Today I was officially back in the saddle (ha) running the tapered down long run of 8 miles. My race is June 4 and I switched my long run day to Sun. instead of my usual Sat. to get myself into the new routine.

I felt pretty good and my hip was ok -- most important -- so I am in business for the race. Made myself do the slideboard, stretching and abs before and after the run and I'm stretching the hip anytime I feel it start to tighten up.

Bye-bye to the fuel belt though -- I think the strap was rubbing my hip the wrong way, so I think I will get a hand held bottle. I took it off at 6 miles and held it the rest of the way.

Amy and Laura -- sending you lots of good vibes, and good luck. Amy - feel good about however you run your race. We're all working to be as best as we can be with what we've got. It's great you can do this with your dad!

Karen and Jess -- you guys must be feeling great today! way to go on your races.
Elaine -- great job on your race. I love the description.

Carole -- I hope your long run was great today. You are superwoman. I think the stretchX tape helped my hip. Thanks for inspiration to dig into p90x.

Shelly- 14 miles is definitely a LONG run! I did that finish line hill again today and thought of you. I'm practicing the end of the course so I feel ready for it.

Christine -- Glad DH is back. It's nice (at least until it gets annoying) to have everyone at home all together again. I am now pledging not to ignore the core.

Hi Sarah-- I met someone last night from cinncinatti who said he had done the Flying Pig Marathon a few years ago and it's a tough course. Glad you're feeilng good about your track workout.

Hi to everyone checking in later today: Mattea, Thomasina (hope things are better), gayle (tomorrow back from your weekend trip?) Pamela, Wendy and anyone else who I am leaving out . Can't wait to hear from Laura and Amy.

I thought of everyone today on my run. It's great to have running support.
:) :) :)
Barb

Have to be quick today as I have a big family get together, but I wanted to jump on and say:

Great job Karen and Jess!!!! You both had amazing races yesterday and I am so proud of you:) :7 :D

And we're thinking of you Laura, can't wait to hear back on the results!

Amy-I think that instead of a fast time, the better example that you can set for your bootcampers is that you are there with your Dad, having a life-long committment to fitness--and fitness as fun and experience to share. Just be there for them and try to keep your mind off your foot too:)

Barb-Glad things are feeling back on track! That's a cool idea to keep practicing the finish line and knowing that you can take it strong.

Carole-Thanks for the site on sidestitches, I'm going to try and be much more aware of my stride in connection with my breathing, before I was just concentrating on breathing deep. Hope the weather clears for you, lightening is definitely worse than bears.

ShellyC-I aspire to the day when 14 is a semi-long, heck I aspire to the day when 10 is semi-long!

Sarah-Glad you had some great results at the track yesterday!

Hi to Christine, Gayle, Elaine, Thomasina, Pamela, and Marcia.

Today will be kickboxing for me, slept VERY late and will be getting around to it soon. Maybe I'll let Christine inspire me--that's pretty much my fave kb mishmosh as well, but I like to ad on the Abs from KPC and the leg drills from KM.
Have a great day,
Mattea

Thanks everyone for the support. first I want to congratulate karen and jess on an awesome 5k time. you guys are speed demons.

My luck didnt start out too good this morning as I lost, yes lost my packet with my timing chip and bib number. About and hr before the race I went to go get it out of my bag of stuff and no packet. I called the front desk to see if someone had turned it in and no luck. So we go down to the race, me thinking I wasnt going to run today and 8 minutes before the half I got another bib # and chip. I wasnt at all in the mood to run after losing my stuff plus it was raining and very windy and cold. My first 3miles where 10min if not slower. I was thinking I probably wont even finish where I finished last month at the huron run but I thought, that is okay, just go with it. Low and behold I finished in 2hrs 3min 55 sec 2+minutes under my goal of 2hrs5min.YIPEE!!!!!!!! thats over 4minutes faster than last months half marathon. I was feeling really good!!! I wouldnt say I felt full of energy but I kept a steady pace that felt good and I finished feeling good ,not exhausted. SARAH, I kept thinking of what you told yourself, I am a machine, of course I am going to be tired I am running a half marathon. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

I also thought about how all of you told me I would do great and having your support helped me get through it. I didnt know if I would maintain a 9:30 pace and I ended up with a 9:27 pace. I was very happy with my time!!! thanks everyone:) :) :) :)

Shelly...I am glad you enjoy my posts, I do love the smileys and pics! Seems fun to me. Enjoy your 14 miler..

Sarah, you should have a glow, you are recovering well. After my 1st marathon it took me 6 weeks to feel normal...of course normal might just be a state of mind...:)

Good luck on the chip timed run Amy...:)

I checked the Cleveland site for Laura but I don't know her last name??

Elaine..a 9:10 pace on hills is great!!! You did a good job...enjoy your 12 today.

Christine...great workout today...

Barb...I have one of those slideboards that I bought years ago. I think I even have a video from CIA. Have not used it in awhile, most likely good for you!! You are smart to be stretching the hip out..:)

Mattea...KPC abs are one of my favs...I hope your workout goes well and that your side feels better...

I really lucked out as the rain and lightning subsided for my run. Just a few sprinkles here and there. I ran 6 miles by myself and then my running friend met me for 14 miles more so I did get in my 20...

Good Late Afternoon Girls. Well, I did 10 miles today. I feel really great. Last time after my 5k I could only muster up 6 miles but maybe could have done 7 to 8. Today I did a good 8 feeling great but wanted to get another week at 10 miles. Hopefully next weekend I will push to 11 miles. This time after my run I drank a Powerade and it seemed to make me feel better and then I ate a bananna and turkey sandwich plus strawberries. Remember last week after my long run I got nausous, well this week I feel fine. I think is has to do with the food and the drink plus all the water I had after the run.

Carole- It is about ready to pour buckets here on this suppose to be nice day. I think some of your storm clouds came my way. I hope your run went as well as it could for the elements.

ShellyC- 14 miles is somthing girl. As I run for more and more mileage it takes my breath away at what you all do on a weekly basis.

Sarah- I'm glad the track runs went well. How long do you recovery from a full marathon before you go back to a regular routine. I know your are still working out but I guess my question is does your body feel like it has recovered completely.

Amy -Good luck with your dad. I can't wait to hear how it went.

Elaine- The Monster Hill. I would have just haulted right there and thought OH CRAP!!!!. Good for you for taking the monster on and finishing with a great time.

Christine- Have fun with all your kicking and drilling. Now go get those groceries!!!

Mattea- Another kickboxer today. Have fun at the get together.

Barb- June 4. It's coming fast. Way to go on the run today. I think you said 8 miles. I'm getting excited for you.

Laura- Oh Laura, I feel so bad at how the race began for you. To lose the number and chip. Man how stressful that is to begin a race that way. The silver lining is that you finished faster and that is a good thing. Very Proud of you.

As a matter of fact I have never done a race with a chip timer. Now the 5k I was thinking of doing on June 4th is chip timed. How does that work. Is it a chip you stick in your shoes or on your wrist? Is this in place of the tag they pull off of you when you run into the chute. I just have never done this before so I'm asking so if I do this I won't look like a nut. Remember I'm the one who stuck the number on the back and pulled the thingy off before the race.

Thanks for all your support, runners!! OMG I got a MEDAL, LOL!!! Third in my age group 26-29 females. 74th out of 83 runners doing the 10K, LOL. ;)

I ended up splitting from my dad almost out of the gate- he didn't want to go fast and he recognized that I had several people watching me. He told me to do my own thing, so I did. It's strange, but okay. He ended up missing the 5k turn and he estimates he did a 7k. ;) HE GOT A MEDAL, TOO!!! He was 3rd for his age group 60-69 males. Even WITH his added miles, LOL. it was a really fun time- and that medal ceremony was as long as you are imagining!!

It was really fun to see my bootcampers out in the community. I didn't realize one guy is a boy scoutt leader, so I saw someone at the corner who looked like a sherriff as I was passing and he was yelling "go Amy, go Amy! Go bootcamp Amy!" and it was so funny because I had no idea until waiting in line for pancakes who it was. :p

The pancakes weren't very yummy, but the soft pretzle DH bought me after the pancakes was tasty!

Oh! I forgot! The run! I was miserable. There were more hills than I realized and there was no way to know how far along we were- no mile markers in sight. I knew as I turned the last corner and saw the clock I was at 59:30 so I picked up my pace and impressed the chip timer guy, who said I looked like I could have sprinted the whole way, LOL. I think my official time was 59:22 or something- the clock and the counter must have been different. Wait- maybe the difference is in the chip timers. ? :p

I saw one woman who I had been running right behind for the first few miles had finished her 5k in 24 minutes, so I guess my pace was pretty good at least starting out.

I iced my knee as soon as I was done and my foot oozed into my shoe and sock, but oh well. I'm done. The bootcamp boy scoutt guy said it was great to see me suffering, so it was all worth it... }(

Thanks again for everyone's kind words. I thought about them a lot while I was running!!

Just back from my 12 mile run and for some reason I felt fantastic every step of the way! I never got tired. Some days are just like that. I wish they all were. There was a nice drizzle with intermitent heavier rain in between but it was more refreshing than miserable.

Carole, How long is StretchX? I've been so good about getting my stretching done (Due to the incessant nagging from Sarah! Thanks Sarah!! Love ya!) I've been doing alot of Stretch Max. Do you know how the two compare? I could pop it in and view it but I'd rather chat with you about it!! Oh, thanks for the heart monitor stuff. I'm just going to have to set some time aside and try to figure out what my max is. I know already what rate I can maintain for a good pace at various distances but I'm thinking I maybe should try to be more scientific about it.

Amy! Way to go! I hope your foot has a chance to heal now. Your dad did great! That reminds me that one year at the Strawberry Stampede (running it again next weekend). there was a man in his late 60's who started out with the 10K racers when he intended to run the 5K. They run two different courses and he never figured it out until he got to the halfway point of the 10K! He had no choice but to continue and ended up getting an award for it.
Forgive me please but I only generally know you lead a bootcamp class but the details are beyond me. Will you fill me in if you get a chance?:)

Hi Elaine,
Glad your 12 mile run was smooth and great-feeling the whole time.

I'm not Carole, but ironically, just finished doing stretchX after my run today. The tape is an hour long, but I skip some of the stretches on some days. The second half of the tape, starting with a standing oblique stretch/side bend goes into a series of leg stretches and hip stretches that I think are helpful for running -- or at least they have been for me.

The first time I did the tape I did the whole thing, then I started dividing it into lower and upper body, but keeping the first few stretches that stretch out the neck for both halves of the body.

Laura-- great job on your race! Way to go -- with your time and keeping at it despite the missing chip and packet. fantastic!!

Amy-- great job on your race, too! Ouch on your foot!but so nice that your dad supported you and wanted you to go ahead. I'm glad you're feeling good about it al.

-Barb
:) :)

Thanks for the info Barb. Sheesh! StretchX is one hour? That's a looooong time to spend stretching. What is it about Tony and his long yoga and long stretching? Is there chaptering so that you can get to where you want to be easily if you aren't going to do the whole thing?
