Routine Question

I am doing a routine I never did before. I actually rarely can follow a routine. I get too bored. So to not get bored, I am doing the following

Week 1: 2 full body workouts with may be 25 - 30 min cardio before, 3 cardio workouts (may be sometimes circuits)

Week 2: Gym Style (always a bit of cardio or abs adding to these workouts), 2 circuits or cardio

Week 3: Slow & Heavy with same concept as week 2

And I will repeat this for several times. May be a total of 4... I will see

I can't do more than 5 days a week

Here and there, I add walks, running or sometimes if I have energy after work, I just do a 30 to 40 min workouts of cardio, circuits or just legs (since it's a an area I need to work on)

I never did Slow & Heavy as I am doing this week. WOW. I never used heavy like that and I understand better what it is all about. I used to not lift so heavy with S&H and did not get the concept. Now I do! With 8 reps only, you can go pretty heavy and shake. Loved it.

Here is my question: am I changing too much. I am nervous about doing a month of each (1 month full body, 1 month GS and 1 month S&H)

Should I switch to month rotations? Would I get better results?

I never tried it, I am nervous to do rotations of 1 month. I feel I need the full body workouts for burning more calories. And 1 month of S&H will slow my loosing weight and focus on muscles gain...

help

thx

You might put on some muscle doing that

The S&H series really does seem like a good muscle builder, but I don't have it myself so I'm just going off of what I have seen on Fit Tv.

Regards week 1: If you are lifting heavy enough on your full body workouts there shouldn't be a need for the circuit workouts. Also, when I was in college I had some weight loss success putting my cardio after my circuit workout (weight machines/spinning.) I don't know if you would want to try doing the cardio second.

Regards week 2: Again, why are you adding any circuits to a week with GS? That sounds painful to me

What are your goals? Are you trying to lean down or build muscle? Its not an all or nothing situation, but muscle building does seem to slow down the downward motion of the scale.

As for whether or not you should switch to month rotations, only you will know the answer to that question. I suggest trying one, carefully noting your measurements and tracking calories eaten as well as calories burned. That may be the only way to know how your body is going to respond.

You might also repost your question over in the Rotations thread area.

Thank you so much for your response. Right now, I am feeling so much pain (S&H this morning), I agree I will not add circuit but cardio only. Also, I will try cardio after weights next time.

I want to loose inches. I don't care of the scale go higher. I was size 2, started cooking and gained 2 sizes and 15 pounds. 1st time of my life I don't fit in my cloths and I am not buying any at bigger sizes. I want to get into my pants again. That's my goal.

thx... more advice would be nice too

Hi Darine-

If its working for you and is motivating you, then keep at it.

For me, I like to stay w/ the same program for at least 3 weeks before switching it up again. That way I can judge whether or not its working for me. Plus, I'm a creature of habit, and I like to get in the groove of a routine. but that's my own preference.

I agree with the poster who said to cut out the circuits on the weeks you are lifting w/ GS and S & H. I think going more cardio would be more efficient.. no need to work muscles that have already worked pretty hard in the week. Your time would be better spent focusing on only cardio.

Hope that helps! Lynn M.
