rounded shoulders - exercise advice

are you talking about a rounded forward posture? if so, its important to do back exercises such as rows to strengthen those muscles to pull you back upright. you need to be mindful of it as well. i have strong back muscles but if i don't think about it i tend to have poor posture. after a while it will become a nautral position

I'm 36 and have had terrible rounded, hunched shoulders that I've had since adolescence. Last year, I bought a DVD on Amazon called "Posture, Get It Straight!" by a woman named Janice Novak that has really good posture exercises on it. When I do the DVD consistently, I see results, but, of course, it's sometimes hard to fit it in on top of my regular workouts.

The DVD also comes with a free latex band to do the exercises with. Many of the exercises are regular strength-training ones that you'll find on Cathe's DVD's, but this DVD also goes over correct posture, etc. I've found it to be really helpful for getting me to focus on my alignment.

Hope this helps!

I suggest skipping isolated anterior delt work, for a while at least, and making sure to do rear shoulder work. (The anterior delts are worked when doing chest pressing exercises, and are usually tight on many people from sitting at desks, or doing lots of pushing or forward-leaning movement in daily lift, while rear delts are often weak for the same reasons).

Also, whenever you do any upper body work, make sure to keep your shoulder blades retracted (back and down, with chest out...but not to an exagerated extent). Doing some rear shoulder rolls to set this poster before doing an exercise is a good idea.
