Rotations

Hi All!

I am new to this forum, however, I've been working out for many years (just discovered Cathe in the last few months and can say now that I'm not sure I really "worked out" before :) ). I've been watching these forums for the last few months as well and have learned a lot and everyone is very friendly, so I thought I'd post a question that that have. Is it important to do a rotation routinely? I based my workouts on a "light" or cardio day, then do weights. In the last few months I've purchased many Cathe videos (Have maybe 20 or so now, thanks to ebay and Cathe's website) and basically, if it's a cardio day, I pick one and weight day, I pick one. Should I routinely do the same workout schedule week after week? Appreciate the feed back. You all seem so friendly and glad I am finally on line with you all!!
Thanks
Jane

Hi again Jane....I could be following you...:)...I never used to follow a rotation. I will say I do better when I do. Check out the VIDEO & DVD ROTATIONS forum for some rotation ideas. You do get better results when you change things up. Different rotations will do that. Cathe's are mostly on a monthly basis which I think is a good idea. It really depends on what kind of results you are looking for...:)

Jane since you have been working out for many years I would think you could do pretty much what you want and still see results. The thing with choosing a rotation and sticking with it for awhile is that you know where you get results and can effectively add changes where needed. I sometimes do a rotation and get great results and sometimes I just do what I feel is needed. I lean toward heavy weight myself with lots of cardio. I sometimes switch this up and do an endurance workout or add in circuits.

I think it's good to have a 'plan,' whether it be a general guideline (full-body weights on this day, interval cardio on this day, etc., then plugging in whatever workout you feel like on the specific day) to make sure you get the proper balance of elements, or whether it be a more specific rotation, with a specific goal in mind (ie: an upper-body intensive rotation to get arms in shape for weating a sleaveless dress, etc.).

I used to just kind of do whatever I felt like on any particular day, and that worked fine most of the time, though sometimes I would notice that I hadn't done enough X (upper body, stretching, whatever) in a period f time, but since doing P90X, I've learned the benefit of rotations, or at least having a more specific idea of what type of workouts I will be doing and in what order (as well as the important of a recovery period).

Now, I tend to alternate between the two.

Thanks again to all for the feedback! I am going to check out the rotations board for some ideas!

I do better when I do a rotation. I do one for 4 weeks then change things up again for another 4 weeks. I do take a week off in between to do whatever comes to mind. I can't do a rotation longer than 4 weeks I get bored and need a change.
