Hi, Im new to Cathe, although I have about 5 of her tapes, my fav being bodymax, imax, and mis.

I also have many tapes from other instructors as well that I use regularly--so my question is -- is it better to stick with a specific small group of tapes for say 6-8 weeks, doing the same weekly routine, or as I do, which is change from KV, Gin Miller,
Firm, Cathe, and sometimes bowflex and treadmill, just making sure I do cycles of aerobics and strength work on diff days.
Ive only been working out since Dec., and would like the whole package!!! Muscle strength & Definition, along with cardio endurance (why not go for it all)!! Thnks for any help

Well, there is the adage that the best exercise is the one you like. If doing the same tapes over and over again bores you and you won't stick to it, then don't do it - mix it up. Here are some reasons why I think rotations are so important: If I do, say Body Max two times a week for four weeks and see results, then I know Body Max works for me. If I do Body Max this week, The Firm next week, Power Hour the week after that, etc, how do I know which video was the most effective? Also, I have a set rotation right now that includes doing Step Works on Tuesdays. Last Tuesday I slipped during the third segment and fell off my step. Now this Tuesday, I have a goal to look forward to - not landing on my butt during Step Works. Getting a certain group of videos under your belt helps because you know what to expect the next week so instead of wondering about the choreography or the sequence of the weight work, you know what's coming next so you can focus more on intensity. Have fun!

Hi,
I personally do a rotation, but often I'll rotate many different videos within that rotation. For example, if I am on a "total body workout" rotation, then my week might look like:
day 1- cardio + MIS
day 2- cardio
day 3- PowerHour
day 4- cardio
day 5- BodyMax (entire)
day 6- cardio
day 7- rest/yoga or stretch
So I'm using 3 different total body workouts, but I'll do this rotation for 4-6 weeks, and I alternate my cardio weekly between kickboxing, hi/lo and step, which allows me to use Cathe cardio and cardio videos by other instructors as well.
But because I like to be able to "chart" what effects I get from certain workouts, I stick to a particular rotation for about 6 weeks. It allows me to "tweek" here and there for best results.

thanks to you both for the input, its a great help to get others
views, I will give "rotation" a try.

Thanks again

I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember a post by Cathe some time back that suggested it takes the body time to reap the benefits of a weight workout. I believe she said that, in general, she recommended varying the cardio but keeping the weights the same for a while (8-12 weeks comes to mind, but obviously S&H is an exception)

Now 8-12 weeks is too long for me, but I have been trying to keep the weight work consistant for 3 - 5 weeks. I don't think this means that you cannot mix things, just that you should stay on the same "weight" rotation for a little while to see the benefits from the rotation.

Anybody else remember something like this?
