Root Canals

Hi everyone,

For those of you who have had root canals, how long does it take for the pain to go away after? It's been 4 days now and my tooth and gum line is so sore I can't chew on it. Deb:(

Deb,

I had one this summer and I was chewing (carefully) by dinnertime of the day I had it!
Mine was the very last tooth, on top, don't know if that makes any difference.
That was my first root canal, so I don't know a lot to tell you , just that once mine was done, the worst was over.
Was your tooth infected before the root canal? Maybe you need (more) antibiotics.
I think this is worth a call to your dentist or whoever did the root canal.
I hope you start feeling better soon!!

I think you may want to get that checked out.I had a root canal done a couple of monthes ago and I had no pain afterward and I could eat on it whenever I was ready.

Deb ~

I had one in March. After the first visit (the root was crooked so the endodontist wanted to do the entire root canal in two visits) within 48 hours I was still in excruciating pain. NOT NORMAL. Call today! They should see you TODAY.

I just had another one done (again in two visits) but I was fine after both visits. I only needed ibuprofen.

ROOT CANALS SUCK! Good luck!

I am a dental assistant - so I am no way an expert. If you are concerned call your endodontist. However it is normal to experience pain for about a week. Your tooth goes through a lot of trauma during the RCT procedure.

Gee, I have root canals all the time and I've never had any pain. If I were you, I'd call the doctor who performed the root canal immediately.
