roll-out confusion

Hello, Cathe -

Sorry to trouble you when you're so busy, but I was wondering if you could give a quick explanation about how to "feel" roll-outs on the ball (from the Super Sets DVD). I feel absolutely nothing in my abs, but an awful lot in my arms.

What am I doing wrong?

If you are too busy to answer, that is OK too.:)

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure Cathe will give you a better answer but what I do is keep my core very controlled and do not let myself slump. When I do that I can really feel it in my abs.

Hi Susan! You are right in feeling it in your upper body since it does use a lot of upper body muscles, but you should also feel it in your core. Your core gets involved as you approach the most fully extended portion of the movement and also at the initial portion of the return to the starting position.

Sometimes just thinking about the core area verses your upper body will help you feel it better. To make the core connection, really tune into the core muscles as you go forward. Keep them activated for the entire duration of the movement. This will help disburse some of the upper body dependence. Roll out only as far as you can with good form and full core awareness. As you get to your fullest extention, don't lose the core connection. Really engage it while switching gears to pull back in.

Thanks from me too Cathe...I've had the same problem with this. Now when I first started doing it, it hurt my elbows! No idea why, but that went away. I'm slated to do SS today, so will see a big difference I'm sure.

Ruth:)

I find if I really push my arms down HARD into the ball with my hands apart that I feel it more in my core also.
