Ripping CD tracks to put on MP3 players?

Aquajock

Hello again, Techno Wizards . . .

My home computer, an HP Pavilion zv5000 Laptop, had a Windows Media Player that looks like it can copy tracks from a CD onto the 'puter's hard drive; am I mistaken that if I can do THAT, then I can plug in an MP3 player and poke the copied tracks onto it? Or do I need another, intermediary gizmo?

I'm to chicken to try to copy a CD track right now.

Any info would be helpful!

TIA -

Hi, Anne! Thanks for your response!

What is meant by "syncronize them"?

(You guys are much more fun to consult than a user's manual!)

If your MP3 player has a USB port right on it you can plug it into the computer and then under Windows Media Player go to synchronize. It should take all of the songs you had selected to be ripped from the cd to your computer and place a copy of them on the MP3 player. You can also create customized playlists first in Windows and then rip the playlist so that you have unique songs sequences that you could use for different types of workouts, i.e. slower for weights, really fast songs with a slow beginning and end for warm up, run, and cool down etc. The possibilities are limited only by how much the MP3 player can hold! HTH's!

Keep it comin', Christi23, keep it comin' . . .

The MP3 player I'm contemplating getting is actually waterproof, and something I want to use for my personal aqua workouts. I'll make sure to get a USB port if my model doesn't come with them.

Question: can you erase the CD tracks you've copied onto the computer and replace them with a new playlist?

Also, when you rip the tracks directly from your CDs to the computer, and then transfer them onto your MP3 player, that's a fairly quick process, isn't it? You don't have to actually play the track in real time to copy it or transfer it?

You all are great - you know all this techno stuff and can translate it into plain English for me!

THANKS! Lemme know -

PS Christi - congrats! You're almost at your goal!

Yes you can at anytime erase the tracks you've put on your computer. I know erasing them from the computer will not erase them from the MP3 player, but I'm not sure if when you go to synchronize the MP3 player and the computer the next time you want to add music, the MP3 player will not put the song back on your computer. In other words, I think the MP3 player might place the song back on your computer. You might want to try it once to see if that happens.

And for the second question, yes depending on your computer and how much you have on it, ripping a CD should take less than 5 minutes. In my case, it does. Synching it the MP3 player takes even less time. Hopefully, it's the same in all cases. By the way, my computer is about 3 years old.
