Respecting Your Elders....

Here is a good one about respecting our elders:

A very self-important college freshman at a recent USC football game took it upon himself to explain to a senior citizen sitting next to him why it was impossible for the older generation to understand his own.

"You grew up in a different, actually almost primitive, world," the student said loud enough for the whole crowd to hear. "We young people today grew up with television, jet planes, space travel, man walking on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars... We even have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen cars, computers with light-speed processing ... and uh.."
Taking advantage of a pause for breath in the student's litany, the "wizened" one said, "You're right, Son. We didn't have those things when we were young...so we invented them.. you arrogant little twit!!"

Take the time to tell an elder how much you appreciate their hard work so that we are able to live as we do and have the things we have today! :)

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!

Love it Missy! I was raised, and I have raised my DDs to respect my elders. I don't understand our fascination with youth, actually. Our elders have much better tales to tell, if you only take the time to listen.

I agree with Christine! I don't get people being obsessed with youth either. We get a lot of elderlies coming in our business. Their stories are so interesting and I never tire of them unless you hear it more than 10x. LOL They have so much more experience with life, been through a lot like depression, world wars, etc. I can't stand how disrespectful young people are to the elderlies. I even told one person off for being rude to a sweet old lady. What a jerk.

Christine, Melody, Lisa--I echo your thoughts (now please don't read my post in the "peculiar behavior in parents" thread--LOL!) My parents are gone now and life is so lonely without them. Treasure your parents while you can.

I have my inlaws now and they are very good to me, which is why the recent behavior of my FIL is hard to take--because HE doesn't seem to enjoy his kids or grandkids anymore.

Agree with all. I formerly worked in a bank in Athens, GA -party city! - my boss was in his 60's and his father was still living with a good mind at 101. I loved listening to both of their stories. The 101 was the founder of the school of pharmacy of the University of Georgia and had stories from waaaaay back.
