Regular lunges vs static lunges

Cathe,
I was wondering which is better and which one do you get more benefits out of, front or back lunges vs the static lunges? I seem to feel more burn when I do static lunges. I also want you to know that I love your workouts and you seem like the most sincere and nicest person. I hope I have the chance to meet you someday. Last night I was doing Powerhour(1st time in along time) and you were kiddin my butt!

Hi Cinnamon! Thank you for your sincerity :+ (blushing)

You will get the best benefits from doing all three of them. You don't have to do them all in every workout. You can do a different one every workout. Each lunge variation recruits muscles fibers in different ways and therefore will provide various benefits to your workout. For instance there are especially a lot of glute fibers recruited during the return phase of the front lunge when an effort is made to push back through the heel. In a static lunge there is no return phase. But in a front lunge there are points in the movement where the muscles are not equally recruited due to its movement pattern whereas the static lunge keeps more of a steady and constant tension on those working muscles.

Happy lunging

:)
