recommendations for no alcohol at a bar

I hope this doesn't post twice because I lost the first one but I go out a lot with friends since I am single and the weekend drinking is destroying my weight loss efforts. Any recommendations for low cal drinks or non alcoholic drinks I can enjoy without adding tons of calories.

Why not a club soda, or is that too boring?? I rarely drink and almost never order drinks at a bar. I like club sodas.

ETA: just took a closer look at your avatar... club sodas will probably be waaaay too boring, if you incorporate a drink on your avatar!! :p

I usually ask for a small glass of cranberry juice mixed with orange juice and bit of seltzer thrown in. It looks like a drink (so people won't constantly comment on the fact that you are not drinking) and often the bartender doesn't even charge for it.

I don't drink, so I always order tonic water with lime. Ask for a nice glass if the bartender is giving you a lousy one; this makes you feel like you are not really left out and also shuts up the inevitable drunken questions about why you aren't drinking until you either fall over or throw up.

I hate to be a party pooper, but cranberry juice, orange juice and tonic are all loaded with sugar, and for me, a little sugar always leads to more sugar later. I think club soda or diet soda works better, especially if you tend towards sugar addiction like me. I agree that alcohol is a sure precurser to binge eating.

When I was pregnant and would go out with friends, I would just get a glass of OJ. I know it's not diet, but it's also non-alcoholic.

I always get mineral water with a lime. I actually prefer the non sugary drinks at this point. I stopped drinking several years ago, and in the beginning I would get non-alcoholic mixed drinks, but they're all so sugary sweet. Now I just prefer the plain perrier (or whatever they have) in a fancy glass. I think of it as a treat and it really has become one!

My DH orders mineral water with a twist of lime. That's pretty much all he drinks when we go out, although, we are old now and never go to bars, this is what he orders in restaurants.

I just drink plain water with lemon, coffee, or ice tea.

I can't remember the last time I was in a bar (I quit drinking over 18-1/2 years ago), but a nice, refreshing cooler is equal parts unsweetened grapefruit juice and seltzer water / club soda / sparkling water / what have you. Even though there's sugar content in the grapefruit juice, it's diluted by the ice and seltzer water, and it doesn't taste very sweet so you don't have that taste-bud trigger.

Bacardi makes carb free/sugar free rum now and if you mix it with a diet coke you get hardly any calories at all.

How about just plain ole water with a lemon? This is what I always order. I know it's boring, but it's my favorite beverage (I sometimes break out in a rash when I drink alcohol)! :)
