recommendations for 100% organic lotion

I'm looking for a face/hand/body lotion that is 100% organic, but is not greasy. And hopefully not ridiculously expensive. ;) Any recommendations?

I use coconut oil. It is initially greasy feeling, being oil and all, but it rubs in quickly and doesn't leave your skin feeling oily.

For a more traditional option, Avalon Organics lotions are really nice. I don't think they're 100% organic, though.

I think coconut oil may be your best choice. I remember reading somewhere that no cosmetic/lotion is 100% organic.

I'm with the others. I use organic coconut oil exclusively on my body (and face). Your skin stays hydrated alllllllllllllllllllllllllllll day long. And yes, it's a bit greasy going on but soaks in quickly. Careful around the hair line cos it can get in your hair (which isn't a bad thing - in fact - it's great for your hair as a treatment) and leave your bangs looking greasy. I've used grapeseed oil recently too on my body for lotion.

I just posted on my daily check in about oil pulling using organic coconut oil. Look it up if you have a chance. I've been doing it the last 7 days. It's interesting how instantly pure white it makes your teeth.

Coconut oil is really awesome. If you are looking for other options, I love S.W. Basics (used to be sprouts) lotion - it is organic coconut butter, organic olive oil and fair trade shea butter. Because it is a little more pricey by weight than coconut oil, I reserve that for my face. You can get it on abe's market. Also, another line, anthos, you can get on abe's market and they are listed at 99% organic. They are a mix of organic shea butter, jojoba and coconut oils. You can get unscented or various scents. Good luck with your search!

I use Coconut oil on my face also. I use it for oil pulling as well, love it.

I had heard about oil pulling, but never looked it up. I imagined it was some type of flossing. Duh! Interesting! Thanks for mentioning it here. :) I would like to give it a try, although from what I just read about the process, I will have to get out of bed much earlier than I'd like. Since oil pulling is said to have such terrific health benefits, I suppose the effort is worth the reward. ;) I'm curious...do you liquefy your coconut oil in the evening? I am thinking of using sesame oil since it's liquified as is.

To the OP - coconut oil is highly recommended as a natural moisturizer, as was mentioned. When I used it, I really smelled the coconut on myself, which isn't terrible, but....I just didn't want to smell like coconut! I like to use sweet almond oil, which can be slathered on before you get out of the shower. It leaves your skin moisturized with no heavy smell. :) I have a couple of brands of self-care products that I like, which are free of parabens, sulfates, and such. Check your local health food store. You can get an idea of what is on the market. Now that I know what I like, I purchase numerous products online for less $$$. :D

Here is a good resource for checking the toxicity levels of cosmetics, hair products, etc.

I agree with the others about coconut oil :). In the winter, I used to get very dry, red patches of flaky skin on my face. I started using coconut oil on the effected area's before going to bed and BAM gone! Coconut butter also works :).

I am going to try the oil pulling! Thanks for the tip :).

I have been oil pulling at night only while watching coronation street. It's best first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I have been doing it at night a few hours after eating dinner 'cos I work out in the a.m. and just cannot add another thing at that time. That said, I oil pulled this a.m. while getting dressed for myworkout and while walking the dog. You do it for 20 minutes. I gotta admit - I had soooooooooooooooo much extra energy this morning. I did Tabatacise! It was great and my teeth are looking whiter than white!!!! Who needs to pay for whitening when you can oil pull! Oh and my sinuses this morning were soooooooooo clear! it's interesting stuff. Sorry - I forgot to add - I put the coconut oil in my mouth as is - hardened. It eventually liquifies. You can put your tablespoon full of coconut oil in a small tupperware and run it under hot water - it will melt right away.

Where do you live where you can watch Corrie? My husband is from the Northwest of England and we used to watch this regularly when we lived there. He loves it.

And, wow, I have some coconut oil in my pantry and I am intrigued with your results thus far. Whiter teeth and clear sinuses? Yes, please! :)

I love this forum. I learn the most interesting things. I'm going to try oil pulling tomorrow morning. :)

LOVE THIS FORUM!!!!

So I am thinking my mom really needs to do the oil pulling. Her cancer has come back with a vengeance....multiple locations. Anyway, they are putting her on a new chemo drug. She was on Sutent, had really bad side effects. This new one also has side effects that are supposed to be bad, one of them is mouth sores. I am thinking this might actually help! She got them with the last drug and it was really bad! I love the idea of natural healers....and I truly believe that coconut oil is the best for everything!!!!

BTW, I did the oil pulling today....I will continue.

Sending positive, healing thoughts to your mom, Jenn.

I also did oil pulling this morning, and plan to continue to do it once daily.

Are the sores from thrush? Gymnema helps with fungal infections but it does drive blood sugar down a bit so watch for that.

I recommend a fabulous website: www.ewg.org. The place to go for information on skin care products, household products, and issues concerning our environment. Products are rated on their level of toxicity. My habits and attitude have totally changed regarding personal care and that of our precious world since discovering this website.

You know, I believe I learned about this site from the Cathe forums, so thanks to the original poster. I also follow www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com for many recipes for homemade cleaning and beauty products. Probably learned of this site from Cathe's forum as well!

Healing energy to your mom, Jenn...

Thanks!! Literally just found out a week ago that her cancer came back (renal cell carcinoma)...beaks my heart! I appreciate it!!!

I think the sores are just a reaction to the chemo drug, infection is another....I don't think it is thrush. I will check, the drug is afinitor. She doesn't try hard enough to use natural methods, she is so set in her ways that if she doesn't like the taste, she won't do it. I know in the past her appetite dropped and it was hard to get her to eat anything. So I think even loading up on healthy fats would be good for her. I will look up gymnema. Thanks!

Wow! I've been involved in alternative health for almost 40 years and never heard of oil pulling. The things we learn. For those who have done this, have you noticed other health benefits? The website below mentions other things it can help with. What amount of time are you doing it for? I know 20 minutes is recommended but I have so much stuff to do to maintain health  that adding something else in leaves me about 3 1/2 hours to sleep! :p

Sorry to the OP. Don't mean to be diverting from your original request but because of your post, others are being helped in other ways. That's one of the reasons why I love this forum!!! :)

15 to 20 min., the full 20 will help with health issues better, 10 or under and health issues may return.

I also apologize for the hijack!

I feel the same as you, Bam. Yet another thing to add to the personal care to-do list?! I did the pulling yesterday and today. To take my mind off of the process, I did some light housekeeping. Before I knew it, 20 minutes had passed. I think that if you can find a way to multi-task, the practice can be implemented more easily. jmho ;)
