Reason for SM post

The reason I ask is because for the past 4 weeks, my hair has been shedding more than usual. For a few months prior to this, I thought it strange that I didn't seem to be losing as much as I should (go figure). Anyway, several years ago, I went through MANY months of extreme stress (worry mostly) and a few months after all was well, the hair started shedding. I don't remember how long it lasted and I just know it stopped and was fine again.

I'm worried this time as well. The only thing I can think of is "some" kind of illness I had at the end of June that knocked me out for 2 weeks and didn't FULLY recover for a couple of months. I have stress worrying about my relationship but that's nothing new. I started using Nioxin and taking hair, skin, nail vitamins. Had blood work and thyroid and iron were ok. I'm just praying this will resolve itself. SO FAR, no one else can tell anything is happening, but of course, I can. I see the overall thinning. I try to wash and rinse my hair in a way that I won't see what comes out and I no longer comb through it before I dry it. I've looked back at past posts on hair thinning as well. Sites online say that humans do not go through "molting" periods but hairdressers say otherwise. They have told me I could be shedding more due to the time of year. But still, how long would THAT last? Has anyone experienced the extra sjedding after childbirth? It's supposed to be similar (Telogen Aeeflvium). Thanks again.

Hi Kim-

I experienced major hair shedding post-partum.. It happened about 3-4 months after my son was born.

I was really freaked out about it, I could see "thinning spots all around my forehead and temple and my part on the top of my head continued to "part"!

I did talk to my OB GYN and she said that hair loss is not abnormal in post partum women.

Fortunately, the hair loss did slow down and after about 8 months, I was back to normal. I did try to make sure I was getting adequate amounts of protein, multivitamin as well.

Hopefully this will be your case as well.

Take care, Lynn M.

Hello:)

I also experienced major shedding about five months after my ds was born(I was also using a cheap flat-iron on it for about three months and Im sure that didn't help x() Although I was shedding all over, there was a small area around my forhead were my hair parts in the middle that seem to be the worst.

The shedding finely seem to stop after about( I don't have a very good memory, lol) but i would say after about five or six months. I tossed out the flat-iron, stopped high lighting my hair and only use a hairdryer on it (on low setting)!

Earlier this year I started the HSN vitamins and its coming back, getting thicker....it just takes FOR-EV-ER!!!

I wish you luck,I know how hard and emotional it is to go through.:)

I THINK the post partum hair loss is still considered TE. Though I have not had a baby, the only thing I can think of that could be causing it is when I was sick in June or maybe just normal stress, which I probably let get to me way more than I should. I'm hoping daily stretching and/or some yoga will help. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I haven't had a baby, but my hair is definitely thinning, as well. All my blood work is fine. I went to a dermatologist who said my age may have something to do with it - peri-menopausal women lose hair. Ugh. She told me to try Rogaine!! I'm increasing my vitamin intake and making sure my diet is good, stress low, and I'm going to try some new shampoo and see if that helps. It's horrible! No one else can see it, but I know, I can feel it. It's terrible and I sure hope it stops!

I'm not sure how the hereditary thing works, but when this happened to me the last time, I was 29. My gyn said the same thing....it was female pattern hair loss and the younger I was when it started, the worse it would get. The excessive hair loss stopped and filled back in. It has just started again about a month ago. Someone told me the hair loss gene comes from the mother's side....but then why would so many men be losing? Every women in the family is fine...even grandmothers into their 80's and 90's. Granted, the hair has thinned, but at 80 or 90 who cares???? I'm talking about 30's and 40's. I did a search on stress and hair loss. Plus, some say we do go through normal "extra" shedding.
