Hi and long time, no talk.
I used to be a huge Cathe fan and had all her videos. Then due to many life changes had stopped doing them, mostly becasue I lost my beautiful workout space. Now here I am up 25 pounds and feeling like you-know-what. I recently bought a house and now have room to begin home workouts again. So, can anyone suggest what I should order? My current workout area is rug on top of a cement slab floor so I am thinking cardio may not be an option. Should I order the STS series? I have all my equiptment still, barbell, weights, hand weights, bench, step. just need some advice and motovation!

I would start with a series that has cardio AND weights...Personal favs are hardcore and intensity series...Start back slow for the first month...And welcome back!!

Yeah, welcome back. :)

I work out in my basement, on a cement floor with the usual padding and carpeting. At first it was tough on my knees. I purchased padded flooring that you put together like a puzzle to help take the pressure off.

Now I can do anything I like without the extra padded flooring, so I think for some of us, the strength builds up over time. Obviously this isn't the case for everyone, but I'd hate to see you forgo cardio just because of your floor. Try extra flooring, good shoes, keeping the step low, easing into it...all of that seems to have worked well for me.

As for what you should start with, it's hard to pick. If you want weight training only, then Muscle Endurance, the Pyramids, and/or Gym Styles would be great. The cream of the crop would be STS. :D

If you think you can handle cardio too, then 4DS or any of the circuit-style workouts would fit the bill. Body Max 2 has a nice mix of cardio and weights and seems to be a favorite.

It really depends on what you'd like to emphasize.

thank you so much for responding. I love the suggestion about the puzzle type foam pads, I know exactly what you are talking about. what I was thinking of was doing cardio at the gym and weights at home. but i would love to be able to do both. I never felt so good as when I worked out with Cathe. Its good to be back and thanks for motivating me! I will check out the suggested dvds. (way back when I used to do Cathe they were just coming out with DVDs, so all mine were on video!! lol.

Judym64, if you like kickboxing you can look into Kick, Punch & Crunch. It's relatively low impact (or you can modify the higher impact sections to low impact). Cathe now also has 2 step workouts (Low Max and Low Impact Circuit) that are very friendly to the joints.

My suggestions would be in no particular order....Body Max 2 (has great separate and cardio and weight premixes), Kick Punch & Crunch/Legs & Glutes dvd, the Gym Style Series (has shorter timesaver premixes whereas STS doesnt), and possibly either the Bootcamp/ME dvd or the Interval Max 2/Cardio & Weights dvd...the first being slightly more weight oriented the latter, more cardio oriented.

thanks to everyone! I have made a list and will order a couple to start with. I tried to order one yesterday but the shopcathe website was very uncooperative!!

ok, I wish I could order them all, but being realistic, I just order 4 Day Split and Kick punch and crunch legs and glutes. I used to LOVE her old kick boxing video (was it called cardio kicks or something like that??) anyhow I am very excited!
also, If there are any dvds that get in a total body work out at once under an hour let me know. I wish she had a cataloge that described them? maybe she does??

Judy - Push Pull and Supersets are two total body workouts that are under an hour. Push Pull is 45 minutes and Supersets is 53 minutes. The premixes are also great. They are both on the same DVD.

She used to have a catalog but hasn't made one in a couple of years. You'll have better luck looking at the Compendium which lists all workouts, premixes, equipment, etc.: http://web.mac.com/lainiefig/FitnessFig/Tools_files/CompendiumMasterV1-2008.doc

Yes, Cardio Kicks was her first kickboxing workout which is on the same DVD as Circuit Max.
